I have a 3802 and the keypad doesn't just slide up (thank goodness the safe is OPEN), do I have to unscrew the panel at the back of the door to remove the keypad?

I tried this method but unfortunately it didn't work for me. My situation before trying out this method was some of the number doesn't make a beep (I assume that means it doesn't register). After trying this method the all numbers (at least the ones I need) now beep but it's still not opening. Is it possible the number I press and the and the actual numbers that register could be different? I'm 100% sure I got the right combination, I have used the same number for 10 years and only I have access to this safe.

if you have a particular number press not beeping, then that membrane is bad. You can replace just the keypad .. all from the outside of the safe. Should get you going

When this does not work, here is a solution that will; I found articles where the keypad on the LaGards start to go out. You can try this and it may work, when it does not work though, gently pull the keypad off of the metal housing (yes, it is lightly glued to that housing), You will need to pull the ribbon cord out of the control board, just as in the video. After you have removed the keypad itself, put some painters tape onto the surface of the housing where the keypad was adhesively attached to. Cover the entire surface of the area with the tape where the keypad was. Now, put the keypad back onto the area you just applied painters tape too, you can tape the edges of the keypad or you can use another adhesive. Connect the ribbon cable back to the control board, then attach the battery, and test. If you are entering the correct code, it should open. The keypad is touching the housing or the adhesive is causing the contacts to not read correctly. The tape will insulate from this affect. I hope this helps

This just worked for the same issue on my winchester. But the ribbon cable is pretty flimsy, try to only pull on the connector and not the ribbon. I had to disconnect the ribbon for about 30 seconds for it to work. Otherwise only half the numbers would work. I hope this doesnt put me in a bind in an emergency

Is this the way to unlock this type of lock when it quits working? A friends Winchester safe with same lock quit working and won't open now, common issue apparently. But the support line is never answered and cant even leave a message because it's full so they dont want to hear from their customers unless it's to sell a new safe. I hope this can work with his. Thanks for the video!

My safe I had wires corroding and I wanted to replace the wires tried removing the key pad as this video shows but after opening it and taking the inside cover off I just wound up beating and prying the key pad off found out the pad itself needed to be removed as the key pad is glued to the base that is screwed to the door of the safe I looked for video showing my key pad but did not find any. Replaced it with this style .

I have a Winchester and when I started to replace the 9v, the lead wires for the 9v to the lock mechanism were spliced together. I found that to be weird. So when I took off the wire cap from the 9v, I saw the spliced wires were connected by a small piece of masking tape and the red wire had come loose. I started to examine and couldn’t believe both red/black the wires were spliced. Why they didn’t make both the red and black wires just one whole lead wire is surprising to me. Anyways they both ended up coming apart and trying to re wire them is a pain because there’s not enough wire in that small area to do it! Mind you these wires are the thinnest ones. So I jimmy rigged it just to get a connection and used a cheap 9v. After so many tries for 1-1/2 hours, I read online that these safe locks only use Duracell or Energizer 9v batteries. So I actually found a Duracell in the kitchen drawer and it actually freakin worked! Omg! A lot of these safes only work with Duracell batteries! Might have to replace all the wire leads to one grade thicker. And if I eff that up, then I would have to replace the entire keypad! I’m not looking forward to this project at all! Damit

@@doncena7193 someone probably pinched and damaged the wires rehanging the combo onto the pins. Or, they removed the lock and let it fall yanking the wires apart. They are always continuous from battery to inside lock mechanism

I was locked out of my safe just before leaving house to travel by plane ...so I panicked until I found out you don't need passport and id for kids when traveling domestic....so that saved me...but just back from vacation and I checked out all the ways this safe could be opened and I didn't want to give up...battery change, hammering on door etc etc...until I found this video which saved me an expensive visit from the locksmith...thank you!!!!! pulling out that wire from the chip and inserting it was the magic trick... however, I emptied the box and locked again and what do you know...safe is not to open again... It's getting dumped for good but I am so happy for this video :)... I have an LG353715

Hi I don't know if this is the place to ask this.I have a safe that uses the lg basic 3710. The keypad has stopped working and the safe is locked. There is no power going to the key pad even though I've replace the 9V battery with a new one. The supplier is charging me more than the cost of a new safe to get access to my contents (I feel as if I'm held to ransom). Can I peel off the existing keypad and replace it with a new electronic Lagard keypad, get the safe door opened opened, get access to my contents and have a working safe? Thanks
