GR10: My 970km solo hike in the French Pyrenees
Hi im Elliott, 21 years old and this is my first film which follows my recent 970km solo hike in the French Pyrenees following the well known GR10. Starting on the 16th September 2023 on the Atlantic coast in Hendaye completing the 44 day long traverse on October 29th on the Mediterranean coast in Banyuls ser mer. Climbing over 57,000m D+ with over 242hrs walk time.
My 2024 project will see me attempting to cycle from France to China following the ancient Silk Road with the goal to raise awareness for Charity.
With this being my first film making project and certainly not the last, i would love some feedback on how to improve the quality of my film to better the viewing experience.
Feel free to comment below any questions related to my trip, id be happy to answer

you mean the further east you get the scenery changes ? you started on the west coast and travelled east to the med
well done!
Any snow on the peaks?
This hike is on my bucket list, was the weather okay that time of year?
Great trip! Love the magical looking olive trees & the magnificent mountain views.👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸
Bellísimo reportaje. Gracias!
Fantastic video. Currently on the GR10. Just wondering how much food you carried. Like how many days did you have food for at all times? Because i see you wild camp a lot.
@@sofiemortensen303 unreal hope your enjoying it, I started 18th of sept so the season was coming to an end so I would usually buy for 5 days
amazing!! I would love to do this. How much did you prepare before hand? Did you determine the stops and distances?
@@Frederique-v4m no real preparation , I used the gr10 cicerone guide book as a reference and usually hiked more per day then the normal stages
Hey Elliott, I hiked a small part of the Mediterranean GR 10 trail last April and after watching your video, I am determined to complete the whole trail next summer. Just a few questions - how often would you hike into neighbouring towns to buy food and did you find it necessary at times to stay there for a couple break-days to rest? I'm also used to hiking with a physical map, but what did you use to follow the trail? What kind of specific hiking equipment did you use (e.g. I saw you mentioned a water filter in another comment) I really enjoyed watching this film, for a first effort the editing and camera shots were amazing. Looking forward to the Silk Trail route!
@@Minnnty_grinnn hey Monty thanks for the comment. It’s definitely a must do, tye Mediterranean part was probably my least favourite stretch so you’ll love the other parts. The resupply really depends on time of year you hike. I left at the end of hiking season so hiking refuges were closed and about 50-70% of épiceries were closed as well so I would do 5-7 day food carries. I didn’t have any rest days but I did have a few short 2hr days into towns to rest. Water filter is a must. Hiking pools , shoes with a large toe box to prevent blisters and tape to wrap your toes in the beginning. Not sure what else is specific but if you have any more questions just ask
@@ElliottFERY Thanks for all the tips! How experienced were you in hiking before doing the trip? 970 km in 44 days is impressive.
@@Minnnty_grinnn I walked the Camino Santiago northern route in Spain 1000km in 38 3 months prior to
It brings back a lot of memories from 2019, nice filming Elliot, you have achieved a great sense of being there. What cam / video did you use, it’s very clear. Hope your China trip goes well, looking forward to the vid! Stay safe.
@@MinackerMovies thanks appreciate it, I used my iPhone 13 to film my trip!
@@ElliottFERY Very impressive for a phone, my Xperia's cam is nowhere near in quality or stabilization so I use an Osmo Action, more weight and faff.
superbe merci du partage Ami Grdiste
how did you find camping for the first week or so? heading over in a month and just wondering about the sleeping situation for the lower areas? cheers
First week was totally fine you have more camping grounds in the basque county but you can wild camp the whole trail which is pretty much what I did. Just climb up a couple hundred meters and find a camp spot
It would be nice to blend in which day the footage is from, where approximately you are - to follow along better :)
Love the footage! I came across you video cause I’ll be doing a few stages this summer and wanted to check it out in advance :))
Cheers, I’ll try that so a bit more for my next video, honestly couldn’t be bothered editing that in 😂
Nice trip ! Thx for sharing. It will be my turn soon 😊
Thanks, very nice video. You asked for feedback, and I would say the main thing is that the music is a bit too loud (and not really necessary, nature sounds are better for this). And it is a bit hard to hear what you're saying, both because of the music, and the audio quality of the voice. But the rest is great! And the scenery is amazing. I'd love to do one of the Pyrenés trails (or a mix) in the next few years.
Great! Definitely noted for my next video
merci les images sont magnifiques ! Bravo
Merci Thierry
Hey! Thanks for sharing this great trip! Which camera(s) did you use?
Hey, I used my iPhone 13 Pro :)
Hi Elliot, first up Congrats on your GR10 crossing....could I ask, how was the water sources for you, Im planning my own fastpack trip and my main concern is water supply....any advice welcome .
Hey Craig, water was only an issue in the Mediterranean part of the trek, lots of water in the Basque Country and lots of streams in the high Pyrenees, I’m sure you have one anyready but a water filter is a must
Beautiful movie, congratulations ! Thierry (french hiker)
nice video!
Thank you for sharing GR10. The video is great. If you have a chance, welcome to Taiwan.I am ALEX
Merci beaucoup pour ton partage mec! Tes images sont sublimes. Cet été je fais le même trajet, c'est inspirant de voir ton voyage. Have a nice day and enjoy.
Great cool movie.
thanks mate
Superbe vidéo qui retranscrit bien cette magnifique expérience !! Hâte de voir la suite de tes aventures !
merci xx
Beautiful. So envious of men who can up and do stuff like this without the fear a woman would feel.
I live there and i know womens who do this without fear. Enjoy your life ;)
Hiked in the Pyrenees with my scout friend group. The girl in our group almost always led us up the mountains. Lose the misogyny mate, no longer in primary school.
Great job with your first film! Nicely shot, paced and edited. I've hiked both the HRP and GR11 but your film makes me wanna get back there on the GR10 too.
Cheers Per, I miss being on the trail, it was such an unreal experience
Good effort mate. I wonder how many people then turn around and walk back along the GR11. Best of luck with the silk road. Was something travelers did until the 1970's. Hope peace holds in the region long enough for you to do it now.
Cheers mate fingers crossed the region holds up only time will tell!
@@ElliottFERY One question. Going over to France / Spain in September-October. Can't decide whether to walk the GR10 or GR11. Which do you reckon? Weather seems better on GR11.
@@tommyslavic898 everyone told me that Spain has the better weather. I experienced 4 days of rain over 44 days while on the gr10. I think it really comes down to the seasons. I would recommend doing a mix of the gr10 and HRP and downloading both GPX trails
@@ElliottFERY Already done. Will move between the three trails. Got friends and relatives live near GR11 and GR10.
best of luck @@tommyslavic898
Nice work man, if I had any feedback I'd say get a dead cat for the mic on the windy sections, and either get a few more songs for background music or just let the nature sounds come through. What are the food options like when re-stocking along the way? Thinking of doing this in the other direction as part of the hexatrek, and wanting to keep it plant based, lentils/beans/chickpeas/oats/etc.
Cheers sam for the feedback it helps. Planning on getting a mic for my next bike packing trip for my video. Lots of re supply options especially if it’s in season. I would be buying my food in supermarkets and food shops every 4-5 days and longest way 2 1 week food hauls. Unreal scenery but it’s lots of up and down. Enjoy man. I’m sure you can easily go this on a veggie diet. I was eating lots of Muslie, heaps of cous cous bread and cheese
Nice daddy
Nice film ! It reminded me of this adventure that I have made this summer (July and August 2023), in the other way. Just a remark, I would have appreciated if the images where "reversed" when there is something to read (such has direction boards). For the rest, it was really relaxing and cool. Good luck for your next adventure !
ah yes i didnt even think of that, noted for next time!
Great film man, awesome stuff
cheers bede, hope your doing well g
Hi Im Elliott Fery and this is survivor
hahahah shot lad
Sick edit bro, keep it up
I appreciate this film and opportunity to see beautiful Country I enjoy it Thank you...
Nice, thank you for giving us a revisiting on the trail. Walked the GR10 from mid June to August 2023. Amazing experience.
truly a one of its kind trail
Nice video Elliott! Much better weather than I had in 2019, what time of year?
i started on the 16th sep and finished on the 29th Oct, extremely lucky weather
