What tools are you using to create your animation?
I use blender. You can watch the 2024 version and the mesh/animation video that currently has 2 parts to understand it better.
Man.... you're a legend! I simply can't express how grateful I am that you made those vids on Stellaris meshes, the documentation that is present on wiki - SUCKS

Hey, that's pretty good! Maybe ~300 clothing options is a bit too much when there is only one way to scroll through them and that is one by one. But I really like all the phenotypes on standard human. gives more variety to all the similar faces compared to vanilla. Also you got recommended to me.
I appreciate it. The whole goal is to allow color options to the clothing in general. Those that want only blue and green or red colors can create a mod that changes the asset_selectors of example - wulfian_human01_female_clothes_01. All you'd need is create a mod and copy gfx/portraits/asset_selectors from this mod and change what you do not like. Just have your mod below my resource mod. Those that do not know how to create a mod or anything, my channel has "how to create mods" to get the introduction out. If not you can join one of my discord channels that i'll post up inside the description. The whole goal is that if anyone would want to use lets say my clothing and different heads or a different variance they can use what is here on this mod and create there own mod with the newer stuff or there changes.
I'll be creating part 3 to go over more of automatic weights and animation.
If you get a triangular or quad error for saving the mesh. It means you have a face of a quad with greater than 4 points making it not a quad or triangle with 2 points which isn't a triangular.
Also if the animations give an error or anything, change your rig animation to object mode then save. Make sure the 3 mesh files are linked by the armature with the correct rig selected, then save your animation.
I'll be creating a new video later to add the things I missed and to readd the addon to show you my keys being pressed as well.
Forgot to add at the very end before you save your mesh to change the layers how you want it to be. By pressing N go to the io pdx mesh addon and click set mesh order. The lower it is will be seen on top. So ideally if you want your hair behind your clothes and your body behind the clothes. You would have Base top, middle hair, then clothes. If you want your hair over your clothes its - base on top, clothes in middle, and hair on bottom of the list.
Damm, since i didnt see Signalis Mod I might aswell make a species mod for that. Just hope that I'm not gonna have problems with the mechanical species this is for.
You shouldn't have any problems with any type of race or archetype.
How does evolution stage work? Is it a new layer, or is it a completely separate thing that changes all parts of the portrait for different ones?

You can check Wulfian Resource/ Wulfian Universe. I might have the race already.
Once again this is NOT how my game functions. I only go to the start menu after Play. How do you have the panel that lets you control the mods ???
You should have a paradox launcher. If not you should see something like launcher-installer-windows_2024.13 in stellaris folder. Install that to have the launcher and use that to control your mods.
I used to add a few custom species with portraits but your explanation of how you do it is confusing. I don't have any of the tools available to me for creating my own custom species. Why did they take that ability away from us?
My frontend, where I could choose playsets is entirely gone. How did you keep/find this?

This version isn't compatible for the latest stellaris version. Its best to look at someone's current mod and change your variables/images.
I cannot get this to work. Anyway to get some more help or feedback? I'm trying to create a static species mod based of your files and I think I followed all the steps correctly. I've been able to upload the mod to stellaris launcher and steam and the mod file does not appear to flag any issues in the launcher but the species won't populate in the actual game. frustrating but I have no idea what I'm doing or not doing. No experience in doing this. any feedback/help/advise would be welcomed. thank you!
Same, after 3.12 update all my custom races/portraits mods stopped working, still cant find a way to make them work, hope someone post a guide or something because making them from zero is gonna drive me nuts.

Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to figure out portrait modding with Blender but until now couldn't get anywhere. Honestly the biggest part is how to use the importer/exporter, especially since I thought it was Maya only.

Thank you for the guide! I'm having trouble with export though. I edited an existing mesh and saved it, but it's not showing up. Is there some settings regarding exporting/saving that I'm missing?
I checked the Stellaris error log and it says that my mesh has less nodes than the animation (I didn't edit the anims). Any idea?
@@AlexanderHojo In order to save the mesh, look at the mesh name itself and target/highlight it. It will have a backwards triangle icon. Also be on Object Mode. Then try saving the mesh. If you added more lines to the mesh it may have issues of a certain amount limit. You have to do the same thing for animations, make sure the animations is in object mode/beginning of start.
Also make sure to load your .anim file as well. Most likely the animation file is outdated since your mesh is updated. Load mesh --> load animation, look at the animation name - example io_pdx_rig and save animation. Make sure its highlighted.
i don't understand : when i create the mod folder of a species inside that folder i have only 1 file named "descriptor" , ok the other 3 folder: "common;gfx and localitation" where i can find these folder? and once i founded i need onlt to copy and paste in the main mod folder?

I cannot for the life of me get this to work. Your mod works fine when I load it up but I cannot at all got my own to work, even when I tried to just replace some of your assets to see where I went wrong, nothing changes. If you would be so kind, perhaps create a video building a small static portrait mod from scratch. That will help in leagues.
I created a mini series of creating a mod off of the human base mod if that helps.
