    I agree with what you said about release height, but release height is going to very pitch to pitch. If you have to drop your slot 1-4 inches to throw a change or sweeping slider, don’t be afraid to

    • @CoachConnerPorter
      @CoachConnerPorter 2 дні тому

      I was talking about drastic arm slot changes for specific pitch types. I would agree that a pitchers release point is easily within a 1-4 inch variance like you stated.

Coach said, "Run to daylight", to me, those helmets made it difficult to see. I never mastered the "keep your head on a swivel" part. Needles to say, I didn't last. It's so much easier to see and criticize from the stands.

    It's amazing how similar yet how polar opposite it is with hitting and pitching mechanics. Both get to that rubber band position, but a pitcher ends it with all the momentum going forward, while the hitter tries to keep their weight back to snap the barrel forward/turn the barrel.

    • @CoachConnerPorter
      @CoachConnerPorter 2 місяці тому

      Both have to have to be able to rotate well! Pitcher does have to use their front leg to allow the upper half to snap over a strong fulcrum, kind of like in hitting where they stay back, but yes altogether very different movements!

    I’ve been following since you had 40 subs. I liked them all. This one has me a bit confused. Can you elaborate why are hand is far away from our ear as possible?

    • @CoachConnerPorter
      @CoachConnerPorter 2 місяці тому

      The throwing motion rotates around the spine. The further away the hand is from the spine the hand will move faster. It’s basically rotational leverage. Think about a longer lever arm versus a shorter one. The longer one will move faster at the far end with less effort compared to shorter one. I think about swinging a long stick outside in the yard, you can hear it slice through the air when you swing it. But you can pick up a short stick and swing it as hard as you can and never hear it make the whooshing sound through the air. Same principle for creating handspeed.

  • @Ljqrs2005
    @Ljqrs2005 3 місяці тому

    This is a good point, but I also think having a pitcher prioritize an arm slot that works for them is important - can’t do a great 12-6 from 3/4 slot. That said, most kids throwing 3/4 aren’t doing it bc it’s their natural slot, just bc they haven’t had instruction

  • @Boltsfan22
    @Boltsfan22 3 місяці тому

    Old school guy here, you touched on it with the breaking ball....12/6. Unfortunately analog clocks aren't the norm anymore but the numbers on a clock was the thought process for spin, depending on throwing hand. 12/6 breaking ball. 11/5(1/7) 10/4(2/8) cutter/slider or screw ball/sinker. 9/3(3/9) circle change or even side arm cutter/screw ball.

    The perfect representation of why starting pitchers cant throw more than 5 innings anymore. Teaching kids to throw and not how to pitch is damaging arms and shortening careers and hurting baseball.

    • @CoachConnerPorter
      @CoachConnerPorter 3 місяці тому

      Sedentary lifestyles have created what you’re talking about. I guess we are going to ignore Bob Gibson, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Justin Verlander and many others careers? Spotting up and throwing 84 doesn’t cut it. Hitters and pitchers are better than they have ever been. That’s why starters can’t go further than 5 innings during a bad outing because most hitters on every MLB team right now would have been a superstar in every other era likely before 1995.

    • @jameszaimes7407
      @jameszaimes7407 3 місяці тому

      @CoachConnerPorter I'm not ignoring those guys, if anything I am using them as a prime example of how different bodies are built for different things. Trying to make every pitcher a high velo pitcher can ruin careers of young players who could have been successful without having to throw in the mid to high 90s. There can be a middle ground of manageable velo training without having this mindset of milking every mph possible out of an arm on every throw. It's not sustainable. Does speed help? Yes but you shouldn't force it if that isn't your strength. There are plenty of examples of successful pitchers that didn't have a 98 mph fastball. Great coaches try to maximize each players' individual talents, not try to mold every player into their idea of the ideal player. I'm not saying you aren't a great coach because all I've seen is this one video, I just don't exactly agree with the message this video is putting out there.
