Audi A6 C7/4G - replacing the faulty rear HVAC flap motor/actuator
Audi A6 C7/4G rear HVAC (Climatronic / AirConditioning) flap motor/actuator replacement.
Noticed, that there is no air coming out of the rear right side vent tunnel. VCDS showed few errors:
Address 28: HVAC, Rear (E265)
0033 - Motor for Rear Right Upper Body Vent
0070 - Position Sensor in Rear Right Upper Body Vent
I disassembled the whole rear Climatronic pane to see the right flap is not moving. Also noticed some broken plastic parts in that shaft. Got my hands on cheap shaft with booth flap motors so decided to change the whole thing.
Easy to replace, 10min job.
You need to perform the start/stop flap position adjustment via VCDS - HVAC Basic settings (rear in this case). Works without it too but I had the chance to do it and also get rid of the errors in scan.
My motors (actuators) had the P/N: HEUT0045K or ZBAT0052D02
(but I had seen the same parts under different P/N)
I've decided to make this video because there is no other on UA-cam (at least not in EN language/subtitles)
PS: I was talking about different connectors for the grill vent piece that I changed.
Same P/N, different connector that wont fit
See this: ibb.co/YWSGQ7W and ibb.co/RB24kTY
So be sure that you order the one you really need when replacing the damaged vent grill piece

Have these pads become available again? I need for left mirror(driver)
I'm sorry, not again. Last batch I had privatly manufactured, i've paid Tax, duty, delivery, handling fees.. That happen 2 months after I received it.. they taxed me/charged me retroactively. These fees are killing it in EU. I'd promised myself I will not go trough this ever again. This was never bussines to me, it all started with my own defective heating pad and as a help to SK/CZ audiklub community forum. This story is over .. I'd found one EU passenger side pad that i'd forgot somewhere on the shelf. .but you need the opposite side :(
I was thinking you could order a 3rd party replacement glass with the heating element in it, split them both up like Stan has shown in his video, and glue back together with the new heating element and the dimming glass from the existing mirror. Just an idea...
@@Tarnge11 that would be great, but the impedance would still be too high and it would only generate about 15 W instead of the 40 W that is needed. Does that sound correct?

Thank you for your video, it helped me a lot. I just disconnected the 2 motors, works for me 🙂. they made bad noise like a sheep 😀
I think most of the heated mirror problems come from foldable mirrors (motorized or not). Maybe the engineer at Audi has not taken into account the wire power wire length when the mirror is folded and it got pulled out from its connector in the DCM when the mirror is folded 😄
Hi where can I get heating pads for an A6 c7 4g 2016 allroad this fix looks awesome
Really cool video, what do you use to glue the heating pad and the glass together?
Hi, thank you for this Video. Do you, or sombody knows what it means, when it shows me 4,8-5V in the first step? Problem with the cables? connectors? fuses?
Hmm, interesting.. did you measure this voltage on booth sides? I would reckon that its a coroded connector contact at some point.. Try to clear the connector on the pad gently by scratching it with cutting knife or some non-agressive chemistry for contacts cleaning. I don't see how this is a problem with fuses..
You could have printed new flaps on 3D printer for 10$
Ahoj maš ešte na predaj taký vyhrev?
Hi,, do you still sell pads? Any chance for audi a8 d4 2012? Please? Thank you
Hello, i have heaters for this model
What electrical specs?@
good and useful 👍
hello, where i can find this pads? thx
Thanks for the video. For my A6 C7 2013 had to buy new actuator from Audi. Right flap was totally twisted/broken. Whole unit code 4G0857042D. I as told that this is 2015 model and the only available for my car. Car system did not find the actuator motors so in VCDS I did: 28-HVAC , Rear ---> Basic settings - 04 ---> choose from drop list: IDE01549-Automatic addressing LIN 1 ---> Go! After that the originally mentioned IDE1546-Adapt door end step did work out. Without that address operation I got malfuction error message from VCDS.
You mention about two different connectors sold under the same part number. How do you specify the correct connectors when ordering the new part to get the correct one for your car? From what I see on any of the Audi sites you don't get to choose a particular connector. Also the part is up to a revision "D" now so perhaps they have made some improvements, so the same issue does not keep happening!
I have no clue .. in my case, i bought a used part from the wrackyard.. I did communicate with the seller and he send me a pictures of the part available.. So I saw that it's the same connector (of course the first time I tried to solve it out, I just ordered the same PN.. fifty/fifty.. received the wrong one :)

Servomotor 4H0 820 511 C Or for the full vent 4G0 857 042 B
Is that a question? I explained everything under the video describtion
@@staman_81 no question friend. This is the actual part numbers from audi for anyone looking for these parts. thanks
@@gerrardalamat9072 It was already asked somewhere in the comments bellow but OK, thank you :)
Nope. Right PN is 4G0 857 042 D. When you buy another index you'll get the old one again with thin plastic and it will break again soon.
Great overview. I've figured out the same reason that all non-original heating mats have resistance 14.5 Ohms, where original one have 4.5 Ohms. I have similar mirror to yours but in A4 B8 FL (2014) but I didn't find any mat with resistance 4.5 Ohms. I bought universal heating mat where resistance is 14.5 Ohms. Result? No error in VCDS but it's heating much more slower than original one. Where did you order your custom heating mat? Maybe can you create (I mean sell ofc) the same for A4 B8 FL and sent it to me to Poland?
I did explained the whole story here in comments.. I'm a owner of an A6 4G that had problems with heating pad in the past. Figured out there is no solution for this kind of issue except pay full price (almost 600eur now for heated autodimmed glass). Wasn't happy about that at all so created a solution. This was very very time consuming and also bit pricy because they also had to produce some amount of theese pads especially for me so the manufacturing process will make sence (economically). So I designed, communicated, paid, waited, tested, etc.. almost all is gone now, my investment paid back but i'm not making any profits on it. I do not care/mind. I just wanted to fix my own issue in the first place. Now with an EU tax/duty regulation for chinease goods, it make almost no sence to me. Last time I ordered a batch of 20 pieces and it took almost a year to sell it all to have the money back.. Its very seasonal, nobody cares that heating is not working in summer.. Maybe someone smarter, bussiness orientated and mostly someone with the drive and time would be able to do bussiness with it.. but it wont be me.. Therefore, I'm sorry.. no more A6 nor A4 heated pad from me
@@staman_81 thank you for the respond. Do you have contact to manufacture where did you ordered heating pad?
@@staman_81 I can see in the video description that heating pads are available again. It's true or old description? ;)

Hey, I got this morning side mirror heating problem. Energy consumers page doesn’t show up “mirror heating” what doesnt mean? And side mirrors have fuse? Thanks.
Most likely the issue above. Run the VCDS diagnostics or at least the meter and check the voltage on plugs/resistance of the pad. We will be just guessing without these informations.
@@staman_81 thanks for answer but I have another question. Mirror has heat connections but there is another cable. What is that for?
@@MURAT55_c7a6 Two plugs are for heating purposes (those can be upnlug directly on the mirror side). Other two is an autodimm feature (this is optional).. You can get original A6 heated mirror for 100eur, but you can't get one with autodimm feature under 500EUR ! that's the reason why I've made this pad

Where did you get the new air duct with actuator motors
It comes from wrecked A6 .. local garage nearby. I'm not sure from what country are you, you might check the Allegro.pl or some other second hand dealers

One more thing. What keeps together plastic, heating pad and the glass (mirror)?
All VAG mirrors of this type have a double-sided adhesive mat. When repairing, this can be replaced/retrofit with several strips of double-sided tape (Tessa, 3M etc.)
Hi Do you still have one heating element for driver side?
Wtf 490e ?? In Serbia, Audi Manik diler Čačak, original heated/autodimmed brend new mirror cost 81e with hands. Today i bought mine, cheers!
Yes, that's correct. I've got the email offer from the official dealer and also search for it online. Cheapest (new) one starts at 400eur.. Are u absolutely sure that is autodimmed version? Because there is the one without it that cost ca 80-90eur by dealer. Can you look at the part number directly on the mirror? PS: Do you think I would put that many effort into all this if the price wouldn't be like I'm saying? :)
@@staman_81 This morning I checked the model on my car. According to your instructions - I removed the damaged mirror only with my fingers, thanks for that! Then I called an Audi dealer and ordered a new mirror according to my chassis number, it is a model with self-dimming, same as yours! The price is 8.184rsd ( 70e ) netto + 11e for hands...Total 81e with VAT, maybe the price is like that in Serbia, because the standard is low here... Cheers and happy holidays !
@@staman_81 My mistake, I checked again today, is not dimmable... Audi seems to be keeping quiet about having a problem with the mirror glue on it's vehicles... pity for such a brand...
So no one is making this replacement heating pad anymore? If someone finds out where you can buy one please reply on this video. Nice video! Thanks
Would you recommend replacing the entire duct unit or can you replace individual motors too? Both seem to be for sale online, though the whole unit is more more rare and much more expensive.
Hello, if you only have a faulty actuator, replace part only. As you could see in my video, I also noticed some flap damage inside the duct. So, without that damage, I would also only change the actuator. In my case, I found a whole duct (with booth working actuators) from some wrecked A6 for few euros, no brainer.
@@staman_81 Makes sense. I assume these motors just fit left or right? No need to buy them specific for each side?
@@sinoperture From what I recall, it was the same P/N. Replace it and try.. PS: I did the flap alignment using VCDS after the replacement
@@staman_81 OK parts arrived.... time to put them in. Then need to find a mate with VCDS as I sold my cable years ago when I sold my then Audi to buy a Porsche. Unfortunately having kids has sent me back down the car ladder. :-(. I retrofitted CarPlay the other day so this should be much easier I hope.
Great video! Have the same issue.. now to find motors or parts....
Awesome video, I actually have a problem with my driver side window not heated up i checked the voltage and ohms voltage said 0 when only one wire connected but when I disconnected all wires and checked for ohms it ready about 2.4 ohms and I jiggled some wires and connected the mirror back on and it started heating up again so I’m not sure what the issue would be
I think most of the heated mirror problems come from foldable mirrors. Maybe the engineer at Audi has not taken into account the wire power wire length when the mirror is folded and it got pulled out from the connector when the mirror is folded 😄
Thank you for such a nice video with comments. Now I will try to do it myself too as I am getting exactly same fault codes on vcds as you have mentioned in the beginning of this video.
Where did you bought that heating element?
Please read the description and comments. I just explained it today :)
You have put lot of effort in making this video. Thumbs up.
Thank you.. it was challenging because this isn't my area at all.. Just to make the video, comment it and cut it is very time consuming. To answer your initial question. It's custom made espacially for me. I've contacted several Chinease factories that I hardly found on Internet and told them what I wanted. And I just needed one piece of this pad for my own broked A6 C7 side mirror. Nobody is interested to produce it in such a small numbers product that doesn't exist on the market. Every single factory wanted an order 5000-10000$+ just to talk to you. Payment in advance.. Found a one and we agreed on 5 pairs, 10 pieces.. Created a layout in Adobe Illustrator, exchanged like 50 emails about multiple issues (cuts offs, connector types, soldering, protection etc). Diffucult from EU do deal with China. Figured out, that ristricted use of Internet in there.. simply, another world.. This all took like 6 weeks altogether. After one year I had sell all remaining 9 pieces (mostly in Czech and Slovak Audi community). All my initial investement had returned back to me with 0 profit :) but that wasn't a goal for me .. I just wanted to have it fix. It's fixed, working for almost a one year now .. cost me 30EUR (after one year :)))

Hi, you can tell me how can i check if my mirrors still have electrochrome / dimming in orrking order? I have same car.... Thanks
Hi, This is bit tricky but easiest way (without dissassembly) would be this: At night, start the car. Take you mobile phone and turn on the flashlight. Do flash the light into internal back mirror, into the photo-resistor located on the bottom edge. You will shortly see that your outside mirrors will get total black (despite there is night outside) Unfortunately, if it doesn't work you don't know whre the problem is. Can be the internal mirror, can be some wiring, can be the outside side mirrors, fuse, etc But give it a try The other way is to dissasembly the mirror, use two cable and connect to the 1.5V AA battery. You will see that it will go dark in a while
Super!
