Brilliant! Tyvm

Can you use the primer sealer then use the paint mixed with primer 🤔
My caulk line would be so smooth i would not need to cut in with wall pain so caulk wipe paint base for pefect line
I always paint base last
Great video, super helpful! So can you spray the primer on? Do you need to sand afterwards to smooth and even it out prior to painting the walls?
@@anthonycaldi7056 thanks for your comment. Yea you can spray primer on the drywall. But remember it’s best to back roll the primer coat. And yes, it’s best to lightly sand the primer coat prior to applying the paint coating.
I would also add the paint that you take from the wall get that from the back of the refrigerator. So if the color doesn't match it won't be as visible
@@lawrencehull9859 yes. Great idea. Or inside a closet.
thank you for the tips brotha
good idea
Drip edge is a code requirement as of 2012. Eves and rakes. That rake board looks funky. It's not particle board is it? Or is that just rot? Should have been backprimed from day one, but nobody does that, so someone pays a ton of money down the line. Was that board *never* painted?
@@incognitotorpedo42 it appears the rake is a cedar board and it was painted. Not much wood rot but it will rot if not protected.
great tip, never thought of that.
Cool, I made one. There are two windows on the other side of the fence I sprayed. I did not want spray ending up those windows obviously.
Will never listen to an idiot using pink spackling..sorry bud u don't know what ur doing..why even make this video...my sister could of gave me this information
Don’t never use the pink stuff. It’s hard to sand and always leaves edges.
@@AlmightyEvil1 I find it quite the opposite, it’s super easy to sand. The ridge issue isn’t the mud, it’s the person doing the sanding.
it is garbage. and i was a ben more retailer for 15 years
@@tyler-rr6dy what specifically makes “it garbage”?
We tried that we are on our second try. Ugh
Audience, great information Paul with great tips for drywall finish. Straight to the Point!!!
@@donaldtate3372 thank you Donald.
😢can you get the primer sealer tinted?
Yes, but they can only add so much tint (depending on product).
A spinner really cuts down on the time cleaning.
Yes sir, it does!
I'm finishing my garage ceiling, I mudded, taped, textured and primed my ceiling. I can still see the "humps" of the mud and tape. Is there anything I can do, other than redo the whole job? Is there a paint that would hide this more than others?
@@keithmiller6307 great question. There’s not much you can do about seeing the humps but you can try applying a ‘Matt’ sheen paint. It’s the lowest of sheen levels and can sometimes hide obvious imperfections. Also, installing ceiling pot lights can sometimes hide imperfections because you can’t really see the ceiling when the lights are on. Hope this helps.
To paint on top of old paint, should we prime first or don’t need it?
@@GarySoares-s8i if the previous coatings are still good (not flaking, cracking or peeling) you don’t need a primer coat. Just make sure to clean the old coating first and do a really good sand. There are some situations that require a primer coat - like if you’re coating overtop of an oil based coating. But if you’re repainting acrylic latex you usually don’t need to use a primer coat.
You're supposed to let it set in for 15 minutes before scraping
@@blainewalter8933 that’s the recommended time but every application is different.
Great tips I’m about to paint my cedar shingle house. What color stain is this you’re using I love it.
Great info. I would also prime that whole wall that you already patched because the old paint is so dark. Unless of course the new top coat is also dark.
@@DAMON409 yes good advice.
Used it on kitchens and it’s good
Great advice!! Thank you 🙏🏻
About to repaint exterior of 100 year old home and it has cedar siding (possibly redwood, but I assume cedar due to the smell) and I have stripped it down using a Paint Shaver Pro (I do not know if you are familiar with this, but if you look it up you will get the idea, just an angle grinder with a patented head attachment) and then a sander to smooth over. I am also filling the holes in with filler and caulking where need be, but my question has to do with paint. I had come to the conclusion (after sifting through many painter forums) to use an oil based primer for cedar, but with that said, I see the brand you use in your video is Zinseer and I was wondering if you would still consider that a brand worth trusting the quality of? (I know its only been a month, but I just want to verify, haha) I planned on using the "Rust-Oleum Zinsser 03504 Cover Stain" paint and was curious if you, an experienced painter, thinks that would be a good choice to use as a primer on bare cedar? (I assume so since its probably about the same-ish as the one you used in your video) Also, I have seen talk of all bare wood needing sanded after priming, they say that it burs up when it gets wet and needs lightly scuffed before top coat, do you follow that methodology, or is it more a check and decide type of thing? Hopefully this finds you well, and if you have any other tips to add with painting bare cedar that you would think helpful just let me know, and thanks.
Marshall is that you , look like slim shady
@@PynkMarie-j8f please stand up, please stand up.
Right on brother!!!
No matter how many knives ur using ur still working out of the can with the one knife. And then using the other knife to scoop off that knife. So ur cutting down on scoops by maybe half, what’s the point. Do u see how small that can is? I would say use two knives simply because a good spreading knife is too big to scoop with, not because ur puddy will dry too fast. If it does just add some water. Don’t worry I’ll learn ya.
@@nickbush2300 i’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve seen a lot of guys who work out of the actual can and then get distracted with the lid off. Yes, you can add water but if there’s any hard chunkies in that Goode can, it really defeats getting a nice smooth skim.plus this video is just an overall general good practises video. Life is about creating good habits so that you don’t have to think about the million things you need to do.

I have an all-cedar shingle home in the coastal PacNW where as you know, it rains incessantly. I'd like to stain the shingles (with a transparent color) and I'm wondering if this would, a). extend the life of the shingles, and b). act as a first line defense barrier to termite/carpenter bee intrusion? Not to mention that I LOVE the look.
@@dadduorp great questions. First off, cedar is a natural bug deterrent. But yes, staining your shingles would definitely extend the life of your shingles and help prevent termite/carpenter bee intrusion. I’d recommend using an oil based stain - like Sikkens SRD or another product similar to that. Keep in mind, it won’t STOP bugs from nesting in your shingles but it will definitely help prevent it. Question. Has it been stained or treated before? Or is it greyed natural cedar?
@@TrustedHousePainter Nope. Never before stained and the shingles were put on sometime in the early 2000’s. They still are in great shape but with our place being so remote, contractor costs are through the roof if/when they’d need replacing.
@@dadduorp ok. You’ll likely want to clean the shingles really well before you stain - like with a power washer - gently removing the greyed layers of wood fibres. Then you’ll want to make sure the wood shingles are completely dry. Right now in the pacific north west would likely be too wet. But once you’ve prepped the shingles properly, make sure you apply a heavy coat of oil based stain. Fine to "gush it in" but what size nap on roller?
@@westvalley411 15 mm
That's about 5/8. I would think 3/4 is better? r@@TrustedHousePainter
@@westvalley411 it depends on how chunky the stucco is. I’d rather have more nap than less. Let the roller do the work.

Are there any cleaning products you’d recommend avoiding to prevent the paint from coming off, or is it safe to use standard cleaning solutions?
