I was thinking of coming here by bike sometime this year, it’ll be my first time in a bothy, actually my first ever time camping alone, I was wondering if it’s practical bringing a bike along? Or just walk it?

I had a 3 hour fist fight with a Big foot in wales back in 1983 out in the middle of nowhere when I was young and fit. We called it a draw and then both went out separate ways all torn and bloody

@nick garner they say you can't smell a picture but I smell smoke grenades and damp and range stew lol was late 2000s for me ended up with a nasty tick bite when down there doing live fire manoeuvres and bayonet training lol good times tho
Over here in Australia and New Zealand whenever you stay in a hut/place like this it is customary to sweep the floor and give it a general clean before you leave. I can see no one has done that there for a considerable time, real shame you people have no respect for this type of place

The question of Arctic Russia as well: Can someone explain to me why the British are making an external pipe at the furnace? Why does the pipe protrude from the back wall? After all, it's heat loss!
The pipe will go outside to exhaust the smoke. Yes perhaps it could extend further up into the "upstairs" but will have been fitted retrospectively so probably taken the easiest option as builders tend to do.

This was so... BRITISH. I mean, the guy is sweet in a very English way. The little brick telephone booth (bothy?) was cute. The little puddle of water that he tried to dip his pale and hairy body looked nice. But go winter survival camping in Canada in -28C and then talk to me. I remember decades ago this well-mannered English boy joined our Venturers troop and on our first long weekend camping trip in February where the plan was to spend a long weekend in a snow cave, Simon (or Desmond, or Percival) showed up with a suitcase at the departure point. Not a backpack. And in it, was a small portable clothes iron. And this reminded me of that. "I wasn't prepared" he says at the end, but the dear snaggle toothed lad did at least bring a squashed croissant. Les anglais. J'en reviens pas.
