(SP 18.2) The Kalman Filter: System and Channel Models
We present the assumptions of the system and channel models of the Kalman Filter.
(SP 18.1) The Kalman Filter: A Recursive LMMSE Estimator
In this video, we motivate the need for the Kalman filter, which is a recursive implementation of the LMMSE estimator, and provide an example of a simple recursive estimator.
(SP 1.1) Recap: Random Variables
We recap the definitions for probabilistic experiments, probability spaces, and random variables.
(SP 1.2) Recap: Discrete and Continouos Random Variables
We recap discrete and continuous random variables, probability mass function (pmf), probability density function (pdf). We also give examples of pmfs and pdfs that will be used in the course.
(SP 1.3) Recap: Expectation of a Random Variable
We recap the definition of expectation for a function of discrete and continuous random variables. We define the mean, the variance and mean square. We discuss the most important property of the expectation operator: linearity.
(SP 2.1) Recap: Random Vectors
We recap the definition of random vectors. First the definition is illustrated by two examples throwing a dice.
(SP 2.2) Recap: Joint pdf of continuous random vector.
We define the notation for a joint probability density (pdf) of a continuous random vector. As an example, we state the definition of an N-variate Gaussian random vector.
(SP 2.3) Recap: Expectation, Linearity, and Covariance.
We generalize the expectation operator to the vector case. We also define the covariance matrix. We end by noting that the expectation is linear also in the vector case.
(SP 2.4) Recap - Marginals, Independence, and IID.
We recap the definition of a marginal pdf and use it to define the meaning of independent random variables. Finally, we recap the definition of “independently and identically distributed” (IID) random variables.
(SP 16.1) Definitions: Estimator, Bias and Mean Squared Error (MSE)
In this video we introduce estimation problems, define its elements (unknowns, data, and estimator functions) and the main measures of performance of the estimators.
(SP 16.6) Derivation of the MMSE Estimator
In this video we derive the MMSE estimator and prove the orthogonality principle.
(SP16.2) Example: Bias and MSE of Two Estimators
In this video we illustrate the concepts of bias and mean squared error (MSE) of an estimator. For a simple estimation problem, we define two different estimators and compute their respective biases and MSEs.
(SP 16.4) Linear MMSE Estimator
As an alternative to the MMSE estimator, we introduce the linear MMSE (LMMSE) estimator. The LMMSE estimator minimizes the MSE of the estimates among all linear (or affine) estimators, it is (for most cases) simpler to compute than the non-linear MMSE, and requires only knowledge of first- and second-order statistical properties of the data and unknown variable.

(SP 16.7) Derivation of the LMMSE Estimator

(SP 16.5) Conditional Expectation and the Law of Total Expectation
(SP 16.3) The Minimum MSE (MMSE) Estimator
We present the MMSE estimator: the estimator that minimizes the MSE of the estimates. We discuss its form, its properties, and the obstacles that exist to apply it in practice.

The book used for this course at AAU is "Intuitive Probability and Random Processes using MATLAB" written by Steven Kay in 2006. The solution manual can be found by searching around the internet.

W is normally distributed N(0,1), the expectation is then 0
