Aussies In The 70's

Today's music is again from Australia, two voices that I think are among the best to come from the land of Oz. I hope you enjoy hearing them possibly for the first time.
Still More Top Tier Bands

Another Wednesday, and the music comes from Australia. Today I have two songs from the year 1972, and I think you are going to like them.
Name That Song

Today I have two more songs with Girls Names as the Title. I hope you enjoy hearing them.
Close to you was definitely Bette second time around. Richards version was slow and painful - is there a doctor in the house. Nazareth kept a similar tempo but with more feeling recording Love Hurts and it worked. I still prefer the Everly Brothers though. 😁
Twist and Shout will always remind me of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off so for that reason alone it can only be a Beatles song 😂. I can only imagine the Righteous Brothers, well Bobby Hatfield, singing Unchained Melody and I do remember liking it both times it was released but hearing it in Ghost gave it a visual purpose that stays with me. Both songs used in two incredible movies.
I’ve always thought that both these were The Hollies and Rod Stewart songs and after hearing the originals they will remain that way in my head. 😁
So, your channel is about letting us watch you listen to songs on your headphones. Compelling content.
Say Silver City Show, 6 times quickly 😮. Seriously though, I love Brian's work. Even going back to The Groop days, they had some great songs .
I never knew that Cyndi’s “Girls Just Want to Fun” was a cover. I can see why it’s the only version I remember - The original is forgettable.
Hey David, Ned from Spain again, now that I've found your channel I'm enjoying a bunch of new and fantastic discoveries. Zoot's arrangement of Eleanor Rigby is massive. Another band ill served by moronic managers and self serving band members. Mr Springfield was in a soap opera in the US and tried to parlay that into a Rock career which gave him a pop hit " Jessie's Girl" but no one took him seriously and he disappeared. I've heard several Doug Parkinson songs on various Oz Comps and was lucky enough to score the Fanny Adams LP on the Kapp label with his powerful delivery. Thanks David
Hey again David from Ned in Spain. I got here after hearing your recent Aussie day with a killer Brian Cadd song. These are both fantastic tracks and brand new to me. I've been a music addict for a lonnnggggg time and to find new sounds is always a sweet surprise and pleasure. The Max Merritt has such a great heavy funky feel. The Groop tune has got it all, full of fire, great playing and production and too bad it didn't get on to the radio in the US. Thank you for putting these up.
Hey David, my name is Ned a New Yorker who lives in Spain. So great that you put this Brian Cadd smoker up for all of us to dig into. My introduction to Mr Cadd were his 3 contributions to the Morning of the Earth soundtrack. The musicians on this track are wickedly good with some superb drumming and soloing by the guitarist. Who were they ? Now I've gotta find that collection and thanks for providing me with yet another obsession. The 2nd song was a little too pop for me although it was well played with an honestly catchy hook. Thank you so much and a very Happy New Year man !
Hi Ned, Thanks for your feedback I hope that now you have found my channel you will keep watching, I'm sure there will be other music that you will enjoy hearing. Wednesday is always Australian Artist, and all the music I play makes up the Soundtrack of my Life, I'm curious could you let me know how old you are? Thanks again, Cheers David.
@@DavidsSoundTrackofLife Hey David I am 62 going on 63 in a few weeks.
I never knew “you really got a hold on me” was not a Beatles song. I’ll have a listen to the original now to compare.
Great to hear these two again. Brian Cadd is still doing the pub circuit these days. We may never hear John Farnham sing again after his cancer battle but he has given us so much great music to listen too.
Heart is good band with to me the best female rock vocalist out there. Not overly crazy about Mike and the Mechanics but that’s a matter of taste. Gonna suggest an all-girl hard rock band from Japan named Band Maid. Rush was my favorite band until I started listening to them. They are an incredibly talented band and as a unit there are only two or three band with as much talent collectively. Their music is diverse but sounds oh soooo good. They have 140 plus songs in their catalogue with the vast majority of it being better live. Saw them in ‘23 was my favorite concert experience. Some suggestions would be Daydreaming live, Hate? live, Moratorium live, About Us, Honkai live spin-off show, Don’t You Tell Me live. If you start on this journey your views and subscriptions will go up but it is a journey that you won’t regret.
I’ve just listened to Band Maid - “From Now On” WOW what energy. I will listen to more - thanks for the suggestion.
To me and many others they are the best band out there, they have so many good songs and all too often the latest song by them is your new favorite. Just dive in the pigeon hole you won’t be disappointed.
A very happy new year Dave 🥂 Onwards to 350!🎸🥁
Some good music for New Years Eve. Happy New Year to you all.
I’m loving the Top Tier theme - some great music coming out that you just don’t get to hear very much these days.
Another two bands that I’d known of but never followed back in the day. Thanks for the reintroduction over the years.
These are two bands that, even though I’d listened to some of their songs, I had never listened to whole albums until you introduced them to me several years ago so thanks for that.
Two of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion. Never get sick of listening to them. I just threw my head back and closed my eyes. Blinded by the Light may be a Springsteen song but this is the only version I listen too and for many years was the only song I played in my car. I even drove past destinations because the song hadn’t finished. The whole album is great
I haven’t heard “She'd rather be with me” for ages, it’s good to have it back in the memory bank. Save Me is totally new to me. Both songs are catchy.
A big fan of Russel Morris but never did like Hellen Reddy back then. It’s only recently that I’ve come to appreciate her. Merry Christmas to you and all your subscribers
This is the first time I’m hearing Pearl even though it was a big hit but I do remember Rosetta - always learning new stuff.
I’m pretty sure it’s the La’s as in fa la la la la, not the L.A.’s
Well done David
I think I’ll have to watch this movie again just for the music. Both are good songs that I haven’t heard in years.
We called that type of music Heavy Rock back in the days, not Heavy Metal. Even Tony Iommi did this.
I’ve heard both songs before but I haven’t seen the movie yet.
I remember hearing Paranoid when it first came out but I didn’t get into heavy metal music until I was already in the navy and old enough to hit the party scene at mates flats so I was a couple of years out of date with Led Zeppelin.
Before you get bombed by Aussies.... Vika and Linda Bull.
Nice to hear Talking Heads again as I don’t hear a lot of their music on the radio. I like The B52’s but was never a fan of their song Love Shack even though it was a big hit for them. PS. Love the T Shirt 😁
Finally got there 📀🎶🕺 congrats - 300 now onward to 500. This is my era of fun music. I love listening to Petula Clark and Cliff Richard is the Peter Pan of the music world. Keep them coming
Bloody beauty Dave 300! Congratulations!🎸🥁👍
Ross was a pretty big name in Australia in the late 60’s and early 70’s mainly due to the music shows Uptight and Happening 70 - precursors to Countdown. From memory The Star was a number 1 hit for him before he disappeared into TV etc. I remember The Flying Circus and La La being played a lot. Great music from a great year.
Hi David I always take a look when someone covers the great Chris Rea. No idea what you mean about his face - having listened to him for 40 years or more, that's his face, fits perfectly. Josephine's not one of his best, in my opinion, but it still has that unmistakable Rea hook. Maria is from West Side Story. I love musicals but I've never actually seen this one, though of course I've seen the film. Would work better on stage, I think. Here's an idea for a pair of songs - all about travellers, both by guys called Chris: The Traveller - Chris de Burgh Curse of the Traveller - Chris Rea You could even make it a triple, though you lose the 'Chris' bit Days Are Numbers (The Traveller) - The Alan Parsons Project I love all three, never hear them on any reaction channel. In fact, Curse of the Traveller is my favourite Chris Rea song.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion. I hope you keep watching in spite of my comment about his face and voice. Cheers David
Thanks David. Saw both groups at the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart during the early 2000's. Eric Burdon was the complete gentleman . Still a great singer .Had to get up and dance and he was even ok with that . Even shook my hand from the stage. In contrast MM gave me the evil eye and were decidedly not happy when I also decided to dance . Saying that the two singers Paul Jones and Mike D 'Abo were great. Had a great night but Eric was more down to earth and did not take himself to seriously.
I remember hearing both of these on the radio back then. I’d just immigrated to Australia with my family and was going through a homesick phase, so song like these kept that link but probably kept that homesick feeling lasting longer than it should have. 😂
You can’t beat the Bread version of IF but Telly Savalas puts a bit of emotion in a spoken word. Surprise for me today was that Jennifer Love-Hewitt sings and does such a great job. Learning all the time. 😁
2 of my all time favourite bands!
I am a big Queen fan
Nice reaction
Josephine is new for me but PJ Proby’s Maria is an old favourite sung by many artists. Both guys have incredible voices but like you said the faces don’t fit the voice. PJ Proby always reminds me of an Elvis impersonator.
QUEEN FOREVER G.O.A.T👑👑👑
I remember both of these songs in a very significant year that I’d left Sydney and moved to Perth so I probably heard them later in the year than you did 😂
From Russia with love❤ Legends...
I love Kashmir and funnily the next door neighbour was playing it at 2am this morning. Even though it woke me up it didn’t annoy me 😂. I did open up the window and listen to the whole album. It is just such a great piece of music.
I know the bands and love the music and of course these two bands have spawned famous solo artists Robbie Williams and Ronan Keating who both spend a lot of time in Australia these days
I agree - all you listeners out there let’s get Dave to 300 before Christmas. Again some great Aussie Bands. I often wonder how many people out in the wider world realise these are Australian.
Come on Dave,300 before Christmas!🥁🎸🎅
As I said yesterday these are the two bands that I remember the term “Boy Bands” being used for the first time. Good music.
I’ve never thought of these two as boy bands mainly because it wasn’t a term used until the likes of New Kids on the Block and Boys II Men in the mid 80’s. Funnily I don’t remember the term “Girls Band” until The Spice Girls emerged and yet there were hundreds of girl groups before them.
Do you remember the poster we had on the wall in our flat in the Cross?🎸🥁
