You can still play osu! competitively, I mean competition doesn't always mean top level competition. I mean that is the reason why there are d1 athletes d2 or even lower level players in any sport. I mean going to a chess competition doesn't mean you have to go up against Magnus Carlsen, there are obviously low level ELO tourneys and even in osu! competition between friends or low ranked tournaments still exist.

As with anything in the world. If you don't start young, you'll probably never be the best at it if the competition for it is cutthroat. You're never going to be the best violinist, pianist if you start at 20. You're never going to be the best basketball player, MMA fighter, whatever sport, if you start late. So it's true that if your goal is to become one of the best, then you have to start incredibly young. I imagine some osu players nowadays are starting at single digit age compared to the previous decade. The amount of "prodigies" will just keep increasing. So what do you do? Simple, just accept that you will never be as good as them, and turn the extreme competitiveness in you into something that will bring you more enjoyment and even fulfillment. Just aim to become better than you were the previous day. Some players become mappers, some make content instead, some just, play the game. Because while you are never catching up with the prodigy, you're still going to improve, as long as your body can handle it. There's a reason children learn languages infinitely faster than adults, they learn instruments faster as well, and if you think about it, osu is just a 21st century instrument. You can't teach old dogs new tricks, you can expect them to get the basics down, but they're never going to be at the pinnacle.

I think the entire motive that "u can never be a top player" is complete bullshit, anyone can become a top player, if they put the time in with the right mental space, while "playing more" will lead to improvement it depends on how you play, these type of videos to me are just demotivational to a degree, osu is a mental game, if ur mental is shit you are less likely to play good, if ur in a good mental and enjoying the game you will improve, age doesnt mean anything lol
