You mean like grave diggers?
That mask is super cool.
It is! Great work on it!
The cross loses its “power” because Callahan accepts the monster’s face-me-man-to-man deal, then reneges and fearfully refuses to throw away his cross. Scene is somewhat better in the book.

Pile of shite !!! ... NO FILM ... JUST TALK !
I first saw this in a horror film marathon on a little local TV station in the early 80's when I was in middle school. It was cut to fit a 90-minute slot but I was very happy to see it. After that I found it on all home video formats save laser disc. I watch it every Halloween along with some of the other Universal Horrors. It is indeed a bit creaky...great word...and some of the performances are a bit hammy but the overall atmosphere is great.
Agreed! The atmosphere is thick. We love hearing about Home Video Journeys! Thanks for sharing!
I saw this in its original theatrical release. I think I was 17...maybe 18 depending on the release date. It's not a great film, but it was fun and I have the urge to see it again. I remember the stop-motion effects more than anything. I saw "Jurassic Park" in June, 1993 when I was 23. It was a tech revelation: CGI and the DTS sound system, which was a marvel at the time. I hadn't seen or heard anything like it since I saw 'Star Wars' at age 7 in '77 in Dolby 6-track. All these years later I remember that sound.
I've been lucky enough to see this in 3-D theatrically several times...in the crummy, 16 mm anaglyph process but it was a blast. The 3-D Blu ray is flawed and has some 3-D anomalies like reversed left-right shots and vertical misalignment but is fun. Good film. I can so vividly remember little kids in the audience shrieking near the end as the creature approaches the camera; in 3-D the shot is impressive.
I saw this when it was first broadcast in late November, 1979 on two consecutive Sunday nights. I was ten and there were parts that scared me senseless. When I was older, it would be shown on Sunday afternoon matinees on TV and I always knew I was in for a good time. I have the Blu Ray now and watch it every year at Halloween. Mason's Straker and his barely disguised contempt and his condescension towards other characters cracks me up.
this is dumb as fuck and nothing but click bait
Budget is not everything..You can make movie in 0 budget , it depends skills more than money , like guerilla style filmmaking.
The opening in rough
Wow I think this is the first time ever I'm being privileged to have the first comment. This is the first time your channel was recommended in my feed. Only a few minutes in so far, but I can speak to drink preferences. Myself, I do whisky, vodka, and gin based drinks. Depends on my mood, and I go through phases. I love a good Manhattan or Old Fashioned, but also a gin and tonic, and vodka or gin martini. (yes please, on the sumptuous olives... and ditch any dry vermouth.)
Stopped at 9:15. Star wars is so horrible.. there is no reason for it to be brought up in a John Carpenter conversation. I'm also going to look back and request the algorithm not suggest this channel anymore. If SW talk is the best you can do, you don't need my ears. Good luck and good bye.
Thank you for announcing your departure, it was necessary for us all to know about it
this movie got old. it's no longer watchable . The thing and they live are I think the only movies Carpenter did not fall into cringy things that wouldn't last later. even though they live doesn't close with a good ending , the premise is SO strong , it's essential, and the THING is a masterpiece, but the rest ... meh
Derrick might be on a roll with giving that 8/10 rating.
Cut it out with those Joey comments Jamey.
Bump
First
How are you guys doing
Good morning
Good Morning!
another great derek pick!
had this on vhs up until a few years back, was a regular bedtime movie for me.
one of my all time favorite horror movies of all time. i still watch it whenever it pops up on tv. i also have it on dvd!!!!!
It’s one of ours as well!!
lydia reminds me of julie andrews in thoroughly modern millie! she has a really similar face! this movie was so disappointing for me, billy with his sodding biscuits! i've been interested in the enfield poltergeist for years so i was interested in seeing an americanised telling of the story, at least i still have ghostwatch! lol
the crooked man is from the zoetrope toy, hence that weird effect, he's literally animated. cant say i liked him, i think that they struggled to pad out the story and used the lack of material to set up further sequels. in reality the warrens were barely a part of this case, it seems like they just inserted themselves into the case for publicity, i really dont like the warrens, pair of bad faith grifters!
good stuff guys!, i thought i'd better get in the comments and support some non-local podcasters! i always liked the scene where the brother gets possessed as well, some really interesting camera work. i like the one with the haunted lamp too, the evil escapes, the kid with the chainsaw is too funny!
Thanks for the comment!! We’ll have to get to those wacky ones eventually!
Best scene is the reaction to the bicycle over the teeter totter for sure.
Derrick looks so excited in the thumbnail.
Great movie.
Classic!
Yes!! This movie doesn’t Klown around 😂
The new thumbnails look great.
Thanks!!!
The doll was made 1970. What do I win?
How about Derrick "Powder" Lemaster
Dr. Mushroom eh? I can appreciate your patience on the fungi quip.
I remember the 1st time I watched ED2, when it came out on VHS. I was 6 or 7years old, and remember being convinced that I saw Freddy's glove on the wall... and waiting nearly 2 decades to figure out the reason for this. Thank you Internet!
Sorry guys, but this movie is terrible. I totally understand Lydias’ assessment however. Some movies just have sentimental value. But I agree with Derrick on this one, it’s a 4 at best but if you’re watching it with the gang it’s easy to rag on it and have a lot of fun doing it. For me, the only redeeming value is the iconic Goblin and the soundtrack. I rate this movie a 4. Favorite King adaptation- The Shawshank Redemption. Favorite king Horror adaptation- The Shining Although I REALLY love the ending to The Mist! Fun episode guys! I think it would be fun to not tell Derrick his mic is muted though and see how long it takes for him to figure it out.
Finally got to watch one with you guys. Watched it Saturday night.. I honestly don’t remember where I saw this originally, at the theater or rental.. because honestly, I found it to be quite forgettable. The only thing I could remember was Kevin digging in the back yard. Anyway, after rewatching it it still felt underwhelming to me. I agree that the cast had good performances, I mean, who doesn’t love KB, but it just felt like there was a lot left on the cutting room floor in terms of story and scenes. Overall, I’m slightly lower than you guys. I’d give this a solid 6. It’s certainly not a bad film but not a great one either. Reminds me of another overlooked “thriller” from that time period… Frailty, which I’ve always enjoyed and recommend to folks that haven’t heard of it. Good episode guys. Looking forward to watching Sick sometime in the next week.
Fragility is a good one! We will have to check that out at some point! Thanks Barney!
Ahhh yes Halloween Ii - The Van Halen II of horror movies. Great movie but falls short of the original. I’m slightly lower than everyone here.. 7/10 Happy belated anniversary! Unfortunately I’m moving forward in reverse here, so I apologize if I suggest things or mention things you’ve already talked about. Thanks for the great and abundant amount of content… and I hope you don’t mind me commenting on all the videos I watched.. just my way of supporting my friends and the channel.
We love your comments! Keep ‘em coming!
Dude, I can’t believe you mentioned the sleeping bag kill… that’s always been one of my absolute favorites! Lol
Wasn’t able to pay super close attention as I’m watching at work… but, unfortunately I didn’t “get” the ending. Will need to rewatch at home.
He’s still out there….
Ugh.. this movie was sooo frustrating when it came out. I was already a huge fan of the original and considered it one of the scariest movies I’d ever seen even though I was still very young. (I started watching horror when I was about 5 with my grandpa.. watching Sammy Terry and various other horror themed shows.). It was such a departure in theme that I felt at the time it nearly derailed the franchise before it got started. I really didn’t like it even though I thought Freddy still looked amazing. Probably the weakest sequel in the lot. I agree completely with everyone on this. 4/10 Thank god Dream Warriors came to right the ship! Great episode despite the lame film!
Y’all are crazy. This is a decent movie but nowhere near an 8 or 9 imo. I saw this when it first came out and like Jamey, caught the twist very early on. Best I can give it is a low 6. It just didn’t do it for me. Good episode though.. lots of laughs.
Peter Pan meets Vampires. I saw this in the theater as a kid and have loved it ever since! Stylistically one of the best vampire movies ever. I’m with Jamey on this one. A STRONG 9/10. Awesome movie and awesome show. Thanks guys!
It rocks for sure! Beautiful to look at and a kick ass soundtrack! (Plus a shirtless sax player, who doesn’t love that?) Thanks Barney!!
You poor, poor souls! I’m convinced this movie now plays on loop in hell. I tried to watch it when it first came out even though my gut told me it was going to be terrible… I only made it about a half hour and had to shut it off. It was waaaay worse than I expected. 1/10 from me and that’s generous. Entertaining episode though, I laughed several times throughout.
One of my all time favorites! On paper this movie has no right being this good.. Favorite kill for me was the alley kill. It’s actually one of my all time favorite kills from any movie. 8.5/10 Another “car” horror for your consideration is The Wraith. Loved that movie as a kid.. watched it recently and it’s not nearly as cool as I remember! Lol Great episode guys!
It’s The Master doing what he does best. One of my favorite scores!! We’ll have to check that one out!
The OG. Have you guys reviewed Return of the living dead yet? I saw that in the theater when I was a kid and it seriously traumatized me! Lol. It’s probably my second favorite zombie flick behind 28 days later. Solid episodes! 8.5/10
We haven’t yet, but it is on the list! We have done 28 Days Later however!
First episode I’ve watched that I hadn’t yet seen the movie… which I’m definitely intrigued now and will be checking it out soon. Movie that traumatized me as a child was Magic, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins. Not sure if you’ve reviewed that one yet… but offering it for your consideration. I’ve heard recently that they are planning a remake because, of course they are. Great episode. Estimated bit count - 8
I remember Magic!!! We’ll have to talk about it at some point! Let us know your thoughts after seeing the movie and if your opinion of it shakes out!
I’ve added that and Stir of Echoes to my watch list for this week. Looking for to the next episode!
My two favorite genres, sci-fi and horror. Alien is a classic and the xeno is genuinely scary I my opinion. 8/10 for me. Nice review!
I really enjoyed this movie despite the criticism. However, it’s far from perfect.. 6/10 from me. I was really glad to see Jamey give it some praise because I really got the feeling he was prepared to destroy it for its short comings. Also, I’m curious about your grading scale. What movie would be considered a 1/10 and what would be a 10/10. I ask because I could easily rate a movie 4/10 or 5/10 but still enjoy it for various reasons despite its flaws. Anyway, another stellar episode and nice pick Lydia!
We use a “sliding scale” and each one of the guys criteria is slightly different. A 10 would be a movie that we feel is a stone cold classic like Jaws or The Thing. A 1 is a movie that we don’t enjoy period. Like The Munsters 😂
It doesn’t get much better than The Thing! And The Munsters was pure trash. One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time… I couldn’t finish it.
