Some of the Best "Bang for Buck" Flow Trails Around | Thornhill
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Thornhill absolutely rocks.
There is truly something for every skill level at Thornhill, the trails are mainly all mild but the speed comes so effortlessly. Ease off the brakes and you'll be flying down these trails in no time, but all the berms are supportive enough where you can just lean in and rocket out.
Best part is Thornhill is basically rideable all year around, and there is only about 100m of climbing per lap.

    Log used to be the entrance 😢 (at least the last few years. Original way to get to Cambodia was via and entirely diff trail called Lola and was decommissioned by metro). Original Cambodia had no berms and used to be more janky that required more work to get flow. Skinnies were much longer etc. Original drops (11:06) are long gone. Original flavor of the trail is gone, but at least they left the rock rolls.

    • @CoastTimesMTB
      @CoastTimesMTB 3 місяці тому

      Yeah I’ve been watching a few videos of the original rendition of Cambodia over the past few weeks/months and it definitely isn’t the same. Everything seems way more janky on the old trail, but maybe with a season or two of break in a lot of those smooth flowing features with end up getting janky again. Would’ve liked to see it in person before the rebuild, but probably would’ve been beyond my skill level or at the very least beyond my confidence level haha

      @@CoastTimesMTB I think I rode it first maybe 20 years ago. The rebuild (in addition to building berms, also filled in a lot of sections with rocks and first so it “flows easier”. Skinny over the swamp used to be double/triple the length. The drop I referred to was actually 2 boner logs you could drop off. There was no ladder roll. But….. not many people rode it then and it was hard to get flow. Now a lot of people are able to experience the trail that otherwise would not have. Different strokes.

      They only left the rock rolls because they couldn't pave them flat. This trail is nothing to what it used to be. A lot of the people going down it today wouldn't have a chance on the old trail.

      Hahah yeah I figure I might as well be as transparent as possible! I’m in no way a “professional” so I’m not too ashamed of walking if needed. I went back a few days after this was filmed and had way more confidence knowing what to expect and managed to ride anything I walked before as well as ride a few more of the optional slabs. It really is fun to see how much progression can be made even with a slight confidence boost from riding the trail once through. As the saying goes: “Pre-ride, re-ride, free ride” 🤙🏻

And I was running a Stinky Dee Lux with a Marzocchi Monster Triple up front! BTW, boogieman, CBC and many of the other trails look much the same too. @bravo2zeroCAN that’s cool to hear that it’s still got its soul in it! There are some trails on the shore that are more beginner friendly and would honestly be a great way for someone with some injuries to potentially get back into the sport! Cambodia has become a sanctioned trail very very recently (within the last month or so) not sure if it’s to do with the age of the internet or not, I believe nearly a decade ago they also attempted to sanction the trail but there was a serious injury and the trail was quickly closed to the public. I'll always remember, "There's a small trail off to the side, look for an old corduroy logging road in the bush, follow it until you see the old saw nailed to a tree off to the side, hike-a-bike to the saw and look for the old rusty kettle sitting on top of a stump in the distance...that's the start of Cambodia". I think for the next time around I know what I have to do, so assuming I overcome the mental aspect it should be fine. Definitely some challenging lines though! Unfortunately the ratings are a bit all over the place IMO. This is a significantly more difficult trail than say Corkscrew, or pangor, or other similarly rated trails on the Seymour. But it is considered a black diamond trail with double black features, and there are a few sections of trail that I would consider double black and yet are mandatory obstacles. Regardless of how it’s rated though it is a really great trail to practice picking lines through technical features as well as for practicing brake control on the bigger rock faces.

      Hahaha thanks it’s usually my brother that cuts the video together and I do the colour. So I’ll have to let him know he’s now out of a job 😂😂😂

    Hey brotha, do you live near these trails ? Could just be my algorithm, but it seems you’re in them every day you can

      Hey, we live in the lower mainland, but not near Fromme. We post a short everyday, but usually they are just different 30sec-1min sections of the same trail. Unfortunately we only get out 1-2 times per week usually, although hopefully a little more frequently now that the days are getting longer.

      The UA-cam comments have been acting up lately for me too. I tried responding twice the comment you left a few days ago in my crash video and it kept saying I responded, but when I clicked in to read it the comment wasn’t there. Hopefully UA-cam can solve it soon! Appreciate the support as always!

      @dash_biker I tried resetting the cookies on my browser because some forums recommended doing that, it didn’t seem to change anything on my end, but maybe it’ll fix things for you if you try! Have you tried using a different browser or different device? Thanks for still trying to comment, we always appreciate hearing from you! Glad you’ve been enjoying the last few videos, we should have a long format coming out tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled!

    Awesome sounding bike! How do you get it so dialed?

    • @CoastTimesMTB
      @CoastTimesMTB 8 місяців тому

      Thanks so much! Id say the bike is dialed in from the tire inserts and the coil shock out back. I find the trail only takes 1 to 2 laps to get it really dialed in!
