I also have a pair of Alesis Monitor 1. They do like >100 watts @ 4 ohms, so wimpy amps do not apply. An Onkyo or an HK (i got 6600, 90 watts) is the minimum to do them justice. The opened up with a Separate Power amp (Hafler Transnova P3000; 200wpc @4 ohm). The components look like Vifa, but are made in china and do not have marks. They don't seem to have any major faults in their range, other than being super power hungry. Pair them well and they will surprise you.
dang! I had these speakers for years and LOVED THEM. I was lucky and found a great deal on some nicer towers and upgraded. I then gave these to a friend that has been using them for the past few months and they love them also. Such a good value speaker. Well worth picking up a used pair if you can find one in good shape.
What yr were those made?
I'm not sure, I couldn't find the specs for them online. But the person that I bought the speakers from said they had it since the 90s.
