Dont take it to heart Chris, your doing a good job taking care of your dad.......getting old sucks...
I know Craig. Just kinda hits ya in your guts. Tomorrow I'll be fine.
Your a good man Chris, not many people would do what your doing Mate! You will be rewarded for sure!!
Thanks Jason. I'm trying
Nice work glad you got it working
Thanks
Did you check your air inlet pipe outside? If its plugged or blocked it will do this, mine got bocked with snow, did the same thing......just watched the end, glad you got it going!
Yep ....just didn't see you had to put the jumper in. First one I only had to change one. Now you need to change 2.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
Thanks
Keep at it Chris! Looking good!!
That's Jason
looking good
Thanks Kevin.
Looks like that metal is choppin' you up! Be careful chris, looking good so far!
Lol. I'm trying.
Hi Joe. Short Bad Chad today. Hated to hear the news.
Looks like you will be a Pro before all that work will be done
It will keep me busy for a while id say.
Nice repair ,great start Chris
Thank Andy!
Chris never put yourself down other ppl will do that for you keep doing it your way and you will get there
👍
Thats the way one patch at a time!
I'm trying. Thanks Jason.
Chris you’re doing great buddy, just keep at it you’ll do great. I agree, Bad Chad is the man. 👍🤓
He just makes it look so easy. Of course I was putting trucks together 25+ years ago with a stick welder. That said this is the first MiG build that anyone will see.
@ I’ve learned a lot watching Chad he is an artist.
@busterstravels1534 he is...
Don't compare yourself to anyone, you keep at it, and i told you that slip roller would work. bailing wire or coat hanger any thin wire will work.. its getting filler over it so it don't need to be perfect. if its too thin cut it out to solid metal you have a whole sheet. your doing real good.
It works awesome!!!!!!! The next panel...I don't want to jinx it ...came out better than I thought it would!!!
@@ChrisJEllis get it ground down hit with some primer for now, on to the next patch.
@Malcolm-s3t 10-4
Good job chris! A bit of grinding and a bit of filler and your all set!
I need to work on my grinding. I have 40 2in flapper wheels coming.
Just weld er up ! Never care what others say, make yourself happy!
Good advice.
The internet made everyone experts overnight on everything. Just keep on doing you. glad you got the 18 gauge and your new slip roller is working.
I'm no expert.... That's for sure. I'm an auto mechanic not a body man.
@@ChrisJEllis who cares just do it. years ago we used fiberglass and I still do..
dont but two separate bondo, if you need kitty hair buy a sheet of fiberglass and mi with regular bondo, much cheaper.
My opinion I would not cut that sheet up and sell it. you have the spare tire tub to do and what ever floor boards, and the other patches.
You are right. Plus I have work to do on the truck.
Just be you chris regardless to who's watching you do what you got to do
Thanks. I've built some good stuff and some janky stuff but no one was watching. Bob was a Vietnam vet that was the best afro engineer you ever seen and that is where I started. Kinda. I already lost a finger doing a valve job at 14.
Keep going chris you can do it
Always keep going!
Yeh it's a bit different when everyones watching! lol
I was just thinking. I do that too much.
Chris glad you got your 18 gauge. One piece at a time. Have a good one bud!
I couldn't believe how hard it was to get it. Now what patch first is the question.
@@ChrisJEllis I like to start with easier ones first. Then I’m a little more experienced when I get to tougher ones. I’m not afraid to make a mistake because they are fixable. Have a good Thanksgiving bud!
👍
You have your hands full
Hi Joe. Good to see ya. I do have my hands full. Heading to Quincy to try and get some metal this morning. I think the 64 will make the 50 mile trip.....

Nice
Get a space heater chris you will need more than one heater
We will see. I'm from Wisconsin so as long as my fingers don't get cold I'm good. I'll keep working on the insulation and improving as I go.
Cool
Thanks Jason!

Nice
Make it way earier to be able to move it like that!
I'll probably redo it now. It's all screwed together so not a problem. It's not rolling so good because I haven't cleaned the floor and there's pretty good cracks in the floor. It's better than working in the driveway!
@@jarnosaarinen4583 are you having a bad day Jason? Lol
@@jarnosaarinen4583 I'd be sarcastic with you but I haven't met you yet. Someday. Hopefully unless you're an ass hole. Lol
If you can get ahold of an old worn out fork off a lift, I have a couple they make great ( anvils) and dont take up any room.. I have built all kinds of stuff out of them
I keep general Mills going. 100 pieces of equipment. I have forks all the time.
@@ChrisJEllis Only thing I miss is the supplies I use to get any kind of spray or the old stuff.. Never did in house always on the road.. first road call replace a steering column on an old clark like a 3k in the basement of a restaurant supply.. all I say dont fight that iron as it was told to me it will win.
@Malcolm-s3t I was a road tech but now in-house
Chris it will do 18 go slowly with it dont try to do the complete roll one shot, you may need to feed it through and tighten it a little bit each time. my last comment got deleted not sure why? another youtuber with the same exact roller did 1.2 mm stainless it worked fine.. and I would suggest grease the drive gears and the little bushings on the top roller just a bit, and dont make a longer handle Im sure it will strip the drive gears.. all this just a suggestion of course its yours do as you please. if its compound bend feed it in on a slight angle. keep messing with it you will get it.
I looked it up. It's 16ga. That's why I can't bend it. Every place in town sells 16 or 22. I wanted 18 or 20 but couldn't find any when I was patching the 64.
@@ChrisJEllis what model did you buy? the SJ 300 will do 18 gauge you need to just go slow.. just keep messing with it, if it put a curve in it, it will do more, dont over tighten the upper roller or bottom roller.. another words dont crank the shit out of it.. Haha
@@Malcolm-s3t SJ300. I was trying to bend 16ga.
@@ChrisJEllis In the vid you said 18 gauge .. Ok you got me now.. it dont take much to confuse me 35 years repairing forklifts did me wrong.. Haha
Yep. I thought I had 18 but it's 16. My bad. I need to find a metal yard around here.
Well its all trial and error chris
Well Jason is saying it should be 19ga or 20ga. I don't know where to get 20ga and that panel came out as perfect as I hoped. IDK
like 1 !
Nice
I think VW's are 19 gauge, 20 might be the closest? 19 is pretty hard to find
So you think 22 is too thin? I can try and find some 20ga. Damn that piece turned out nice.
Mount the vise to that work bench 2 bolts it will be fine and clamp that roller in there it will be fine your only putting a very slight curve in the metal
Sounds like a plan. I've never used one before so didn't know how much pressure it would put on the bench.
Get hold of vwcoco he the man will send you pic of what it should look like
Will do
Just take your time Chris & try & have fun with it! I'm sure you'll get it!!
Thanks Jason.
Try messaging Doug, he just got a vw shell that might have some metal he could send ya!....😊
I can't afford to send body parts from Canada. But I did see he had one.
