Thanks for visiting Johnson Boys Outdoor Adventures. We are two brothers who didn’t grow up hunting but developed a love for it as young adults. We continue to grow and learn as hunters each season and look forward to documenting our journey as we continue to pursue this passion.
We started this page to have fun with our kids and pass on our love for the outdoors and more importantly make great memories with them.
While we hope to help other hunters as well as learn from them in the future, in the end it is about documenting a part of our lives we love and to have the ability to look back and remember these times with our friends and family.
We spend most of our time hunting Whitetail Deer on public land in Michigan.
We hope you join us!

WTFCamo

Testing out WTFCamo this season. It’s a camo designed around the science of how deer see. I was looking for a camo to breakup my silhouette and so far this camo seems to do the job well.

What is he scared of heights? 😂
Great video and awesome trip!
Surviving 😂
Just the video I have been looking for. I have been wondering if a peep is actually needed.
homies like 4 feet up
Cool video! Keep it up!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Do you have any further thoughts since you e hunted with the WTF gear. How did it fair in the elements, wind, rain, early / late season. I’m also curious as to the fit and finish. Thanks again
Sorry for the late reply. I am on my second season with it. I am a weekend warrior but I hunt far and hard when I hunt. Everything has held up nice. The parts of the jacket that are thin stretch material have faded a bit compared to the strong fabric that makes up most of the garment. The jacket and pants remind me of my mid season scent lock i have used in the past. Same soft fabric. A bit warm for early season and not going to keep you really warm for long sits in the late season. All and All I have been impressed. Kind of wish it didn’t say WTF because I think people think its a joke rather than an actual product.
I loved you spot, where was it located?
Really sorry for not seeing this. Hope you found a good spot if you already went. maps.app.goo.gl/9kSEXffDMaQDjTecA?g_st=ic
I went 2 weeks ago
I had the original camo version of the sight. My newest bow has the newer camo version. I've been very accurate with both but with the nose button & a rock solid anchor with one particular thumb release I've become twice as consistent. I really fought with the peep sight thing since I never started with one. I'm 30 years into compound & recurve shooting. Last time I used a peep it was a good one in good lighting but when a deer is very close it restricts the open sight window that the EZV creates. I shot this very slow moving doe & she was just to the right of my camera angle. She took a step forward & towards me moving right to left as i released. I hit her in no man's land & the arrow missed everything. Two days later I watched eating crab apples off a 🌳. She has had twins 2 years in a row. She had gotten a pass for now but since then I shot her mother who was the queen of the forest. I really like your arrows & that long tip u have on the end. I've been shooting about 570 grains with 22 % FOC with my 30" draw. But I'm sure I'm shooting less poundage than u. One thing that really helped me was a quick disconnect which I attached a 1/2" diameter Conquest Archery stab. which is 12" long. I put a weight on the end of it. My bow isn't heavy but that weight is well forward of the bow handle. Another advantage of it is when u lower your bow to the ground that stabilizer acts as a brace & your bow won't lay on its side ever when u lower it to the ground & rest it up against the tree. P.S. What kind of tip or insert is on your arrow?
So I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on this but like my peep sight were you able to shoot consistently with a peep sight using the v
Awesome video! Congrats on a nice buck! Keep it going guys!
thanks so much. took a while for me to find your video. almost all vids are ppl just talking about how they would climb or setting it up while standing on the ground..... your vid is reality and looks a little trickier than marketers would have me think.
Ropeman 1. Thank me later!
WTG Liam and dad great job and memories !!!
Awsome job young man way to lay the smack down
Awesome job Liam So much fun Great video Johnson boys
I switched to a super heavy arrow setup this year, for testing purposes. Using 250 gr Cutthroats. They fly amazingly, often just as good or better than field point. Dead on @ 20, 30 & 40👍
Talking about you not being as steady you might try adding a 1/4” to your draw length. Also you are very slightly tipping your nose down to the button. Longer dl will probably fix both things. Plus your draw arm will be farther back where it’s supposed to be. That will allow your back muscles to hold the draw weight. Front stabilizer will usually help with left/right wobble as you hit the back wall( if you aren’t jerking hard) and a back bar is for having the scope bubble ( or the riser) be centered or plumb. Try four ounces on the front and six on the back as I’m sure you’re shooting 70#’s? If your bow won’t do 1/4” dl changes just make the d-loop longer. This won’t effect the trajectory or anything else. Your nose would still be down though but your arm would be farther back.
Oh, I say that because I'm 260lbs. and 53 old and its easy for me.
Upper body weight lifting also makes you much more stable. Especially shoulder strength training
Looks like a lot of messing around but like you said, with practice things will be more streamlined. I remember when we first got into cutting trees, all the different pieces...foot asenders, carabiniere decent rigging lol but after I practiced it got to be second nature. Im getting into saddle hunting this season and going with a Cruzr saddle and probably Hawk Helium sticks with 1 aider that I can use from stick to stick, so far that seems to be the quickest way up a tree.
Awesome you're an arborist. Can I get your opinion oh this? ua-cam.com/video/gwRQDcez63Y/v-deo.html
I will keep comments respectful always. I do need to bring up how the one guy admitted to shooting a new release and yet is shooting past children playing in the yard! Even without this admittance it shouldn't be happening!
Great video sir. I just got my EZ V and I love it.
You can make a prusyk tender out of parachord for pne handed lineman belt adjustment
I also shoot without a peep with the EZ V, where do you line up your string? Do you put the string in the middle of the V or to the right along the riser?
This is awesome. Great video.
Congratulations Liam! Good job young man. Shoot what gets your blood pumping. Good luck out there with the rest of your season! Take care and God bless. -Love from NH
Shoot does during the youth hunt teach your kids hunting is not easy! I'd bet a dollar the young man that shot the nice buck does not shot another like that outside the youth hunt for years to come.
We hunt state land in MI and he is only 8. I let him take whatever he will be proud of. I am thankful he is developing a love of hunting at a much younger age than I had an opportunity to. Hunting public land in MI is hard no matter what age or when. He got his first buck last season outside of youth hunt as well.
Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge. Outstanding video, answered all of my questions.
hi I have a question when lining up the v on the deer vitals, how does that look? I am looking at getting the EZ V, just not sure what the v lines upon. My thought is from the front side of the front leg to about halfway down the midsection of the deer. but not sure if thinking that is correct. would you be able to show a video on how to place the V on the deer? Thanks Jim
Hi Jim. When you get the sight it comes with a paper target with lines on either side of a deer vital cut out. This will allow you to practice and get a feel for how much is in the V. You are supposed to line it up on the back shoulder and back rib and will double lung each time. I have since switched to a heavy arrow setup and would prefer to miss forward than rear of the deer so i have lined up front shoulder and mid rib cage. The best i can explain it is when i first got the sight i really focused on the placement of the V on the shoulder and back rib. As i have shot it more and more i now instinctively know how much deer should be in the V without out much thinking about placement being on the shoulder and last rib. You develop an idea of the vitals and release. I killed my deer last year and have no idea how far he was and was on the ground on my knees and took the shot and he didn’t go maybe 20 - 30 yards and died.
Great review on the sight, interesting how accurate you shot it without a peep. Thank you.
Thanks. It’s perfect for bow hunting. I think if I wanted to be my best in a 3D tournament i would probably have a single pin and a peep.
Good looking family! Might try and do Isle Royale this later this year!
Can't outsmart the Nannys lol
Looks very unsafe with people around like that I would not shoot like that I would want a good back stop.. just me Safety Safety Safety!!!!!!!
Free?
It was free the day we went but I believe it’s normally $20 a vehicle. Still worth it if you plan to enjoy the day there.
That looks awesome! Making memories. 👍🏻
Seriously, before you give up on your Stepps, try the Cain method. Faster, easier, safer, more secure even without your lineman's rope hassle, no aiders needed, branches don't matter, AND the height of the Stepps is easy. How high can you comfortably set a Stepp? Watch Joe Walling's video on the modified Cain method. And you can hook your carabiner onto the "V" of the Stepp if you so desire. It will self center. Enjoy the woods.
I tried the Cain method and I did like it. I even found a modified Cain method that worked as well.
I liked the Cain method also. You give good advice. I hope you do comment .
@21:22 "When it digs in it doesn't want to cam fully." If you position the Stepp correctly with the right tension (Read, "Practice with your equipment") I promise they will "cam correctly". It isn't the Stepp. It IS the operator. The Stepp has no moving parts. If you do YOUR part, it'll work every time. Easy to adjust, as well, to get the correct tension. Thank Jim Stepp. He invented them and came up with the friction knot. And, if you are doing your part, they don't dig in much more, if any, than the teeth on the stand outs on your sticks sliding down the trunk to lock in. IMNSHO. Hunt safely, my Friends.
I soft set them When setting mine, just a little firm. But I don't depend on the Stepps with my life. See how and let me know what you think. ua-cam.com/video/gwRQDcez63Y/v-deo.html
I changed my game last year to Extreme FOC, 375gr up front. I got 4 different broad-heads with same impact out to 40 yards. Insert tune, nock tune and they should fly.
Your sons name is spelled wrong
Hey chad I have not ordered mine yet but I just talked to Aaron tonight since u was shooting higher did u try a different insert for a faster bow only asking so I would know for the future to try that before moving the sight
Yes i tried different inserts and got it dialed in. The more i practice on 3D targets the more comfortable i get.
@@johnsonboysoutdooradventur8119 good deal I’m excited to get mine. I like that game u two played gunna have to do that with my buddies
I know why you had a problem. You are just getting tired with the second and 3rd shoot. Try to shoot one arrow at the time because every time the 1st arrow was good and 2nd and 3rd was not as good. I have a similar problem every time a shoot 1st arrow it will be bull eye and 2nd and 3rd will be off. So what I do now I shoot one arrow then I go and retrieve. Basically the poundage of the bow is to high for multiple shoots in a row. I also shoot more then I can handle in order to improve . When I shoot 65 pounds I can do 3 arrows on the bulls eye now I set the bow to max 72 and I can only do 1 arrow on the bulls eye always the 1st and the other 2 will be off. Great video really nice and honest .
Thank you. I will practice like that in the future.
Hey Bros...so appreciate your willingness to show the struggles that come in the real world for guys that aren’t body builders!!
I'm not a body builder either. I think this will help us all out. ua-cam.com/video/gwRQDcez63Y/v-deo.html
So glad i'm not the only round bellied, terrified of heights dad trying to saddle hunt. Thanks for showing the learning process and making me feel like a normal dude lol. All the saddle videos I watch, these athletic hunters zip right up the tree and I feel so slow compared to them. Much appreciated!
Im with both of you guys here haha finally some real life content
thanks for the video just a thought try a longer stabilizer like the 12" trophy ridge it really helps to keep you on target
Thanks. I plan to try that out this season, along with a back stabilizer too.
Congratulations Nice Buck!!! How you like the cutthroat broadheads??? What grain???
The cutthroat worked great. I have the 150 grain and the deer didn’t run. He hopped a couple times and then stared at me until he ended up falling over. It flew perfect
Thanks, I’m looking at getting them!
This video was pointless, and dangerous. Just get some beast sticks and a single aider for your bottom stick and you will be light and efficient.
I got a stick for you. Ok that sounds bad I promise it isn't. ua-cam.com/video/gwRQDcez63Y/v-deo.html
dude!!! scared me just watching, think I will stay with my Beast Sticks, appreciate your effort for the video, but real scary
Me too. But it scares to watch about every demo I do watch. I also scare myself climbing. But not anymore. Even though I'm 269lbs. and 53. It's easy now, take a look. let me know what you think. ua-cam.com/video/gwRQDcez63Y/v-deo.html
Nice Buck Congrats!
Thank you.
Chad-I use a Carter Wise Choice for my hunting release. When I went from a Carter quickie plus to the thumb my groups tightened in just a few days because I made myself pull through the shot as it was designed for. I am seriously amazed at how accurate people can shoot with the EZV .
