Optimizing Tribological Performance of TiO₂-SiO₂/PVE Nanolubricants for Automotive AC Systems
Safril, Wan Hamzah Azmi, Nurul Nadia Mohd Zawawi, and Anwar Ilmar Ramadhan conducted this study to enhance the tribological properties of lubricants for automotive air-conditioning (AAC) systems. With increasing demands for energy-efficient and sustainable solutions, hybrid nanolubricants offer potential improvements in reducing friction and wear. TiO₂-SiO₂ nanoparticles were dispersed into PVE lubricant using a two-step method at a fixed concentration of 0.010% and tested across various binary ratios. Stability was evaluated through sedimentation, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and zeta potential analysis, with the 40:60 ratio demonstrating superior performance. Tribological testing revealed a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction and wear scar diameter for the optimal ratio. These findings suggest that TiO₂-SiO₂/PVE hybrid nanolubricants can improve AAC system efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and extend component lifespan. The study underscores the importance of innovative lubricant formulations in achieving sustainable advancements in automotive technologies.
