Hey Paul! Yeah that chest in the sect camp is also a good catch. Yep the weapon drawing does abuse the AI of the NPCs and fortunately it's fixed in Gothic 2 and other mods.

Yeah the game is weird. It makes a small narrative mistake that other games like Fallout 3 did. We're supposed to care about an NPC we only spend 5-10 minutes in game with but as players we feel emotionally disconnected from the main quest because of this. It's difficult to care about the main plot when 99% of the time what we do in game has nothing to do with the main plot.

Thanks Steve! Archolos is a great journey plus it has 5 times the secrets vs Gothic 2. LOT of stuff to explore!

Oh man, get ready for more secrets than Gothic 2 Gold. There's 200 encounters in the game. I also found the secret on how the game secretly "rolls" for those encounters. The game rolls your current quest status (for example whether or not you've reached chapter 2 or not) and then it rolls for current time. Every 24 hours (or if you sleep a day) the game does some dice rolls to see if it spawns an encounter in a certain place or not.

How do you know that? It's very interesting

@@ElKyox I was playing a bit with marvin mode testing some stuff. I was in the marketplace and used the console to advance the time 24 hours in game to test something.Then out of nowhere an npc spawned in front of me trying to scam me. This indicated that the game spawns random encounters daily in a certain amount. The game has a database of encounters it can roll for every 24 in game hours.

I'll try. There are so many secrets in Archolos + 200 -ish random encounters. Would probably take me at least 1-2 weeks of work to find them all :))

Hey man! Thank you for the sub and will be happy to have you on this Gothic journey of ours. This is a mage run while sporting a magic / 2 handed hybrid build. I will be doing an L'hiver Playthrough as a mercenary though after I am finished with Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos.

Design wise? I think the zombies in Gothic 2 and Archolos are awesome. The audio recording of them screaming when they die is so nicely done it actually sounds like a broken soul getting released from undeath. That and their attempt to get up one last time is a beautiful detail. Combat wise? Probably humanoid opponents because we have to time their hits and parries and it involves skill. Shadowbeasts are nice but often times you have to cheese them in order to win which leaves you to either use magic or climbing on a ledge to archer them to death. I take it the shadow is your favorite? They are pretty nicely designed as monsters, especially when you encounter a cave where a shadowbeast just ripped a troll's head clean off :D

I mean I never pre-order because .... * Points at the entire gaming industry why * But I am gonna play the gothic remake so might as well buy it ahead of time. Best case? It's decent. Worst case? It's going to make Gothic 1 or G2 look like the best games ever made and we'll enjoy those + their mods.

@@adrianong3107 It's basically a full blown game modification for Gothic 2: Night of the Raven. The game mod is actually less of a mod and more like an entire game in itself that takes more than 100+ hours to complete. It's coded in the ZEngine, which is the game engine for the Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 games. These games for reference are 20 years old but they have a strong gaming and modding community behind them. This specific mod called "Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos" is a polish game mod, with complete polish voice acting + english subtitles. The story takes place during an orc war between the orcs and the human kingdom of Myrtana. We play as Marvin, a war refugee that sought shelter alongside his brother on the island of Archolos. If you want to play this game I highly recommend trying out Gothic 2 Night of the Raven (also known as Gothic 2 Gold) so you can wet your feet in the story and gameplay. Hope that clears up everything.

Yeah the Xardas twist is really nice. As for the nameless dragon, I feel it's a sort of meta moment, because the devs know our hero was never given a name so we can shape him however we want. I do like how they wrote Xardas's intentions if we correlate them with the story of Gothic 3. Seems his general goal is to set himself up as a 4th god. He already has some divine power in Gothic 3, but to a more neutral goal of weakening all factions instead of just fighting Beliar. Still, good game, I feel some things could've been more developed, such as Xardas's intentions or the dialogue with the black magician / undead dragon. Would've also been interesting to be given a choice to become an avatar of Beliar ourselves, but the canon was we were chosen by Innos. Afterwards in Gothic 3 we - without our consent mind you - are chosen as an avatar of Adanos. Seems the gods are playing ping pong with our Nameless Hero as the avatar of the week.

@@gamesand_stories actually! in my humble opinion Morrowind plays much more smoothly than its successors, but that's a discussion for another comment section :P

@@blueshit199 They are vastly different stories with different approaches. Morrowind focuses a lot on epic tales in a rich broken world with a vast and colourful history, cosmology and mythology. Gothic usually focuses on more personal stories and how you interact with npcs who are most of the time in a bad spot. (either convicts, or refugees, or fleeced peasants) Morrowind focuses on ancient divine prophecies that shape reality. Gothic focuses on you being a schmuck trying to not be mugged for your rusty sword hehe.

Hehe, thanks man! The voice acting was cringy at times, but hey, first attempts right? But I did want to emphasize the feeling on just how annoying that wisp is constantly beeping with audio cues every time it spots something. Not sure if we get one in Archolos, but I do hear we get a dog there. Maybe the dog will sniff items? The crew bit is nice aye. The montage I initially wanted to make a way longer one but there are so MAAANY npcs in Gothic 2 it would end up being a 30 minute one plus I ran out of time. But I do love the fact we get to pick our crew based on our friends and allies, very cool touch.

Couple of days. Roughly 8 hours of grind or so. Mostly I was interesting in showing off the higher end spells even if realistically speaking we can finish the final chapter even at level 25 using just an ice lance :)) Speaking off, thank you for the coffee man! After Archolos I plan to do an L'hiver playthrough then the "hardcore heavy branch only challenge". No armor, no rings, no amulets, and see if it's possible to finish the game using just a stick.

And cryptic. Who can even figure that out?

Also fun fact. If you enter marvin mode, target his body, press "O" to take control of his body and resurrect him you can enter in a short dialogue with him. He just screams "AHHHH!" to which Marvin replies "It's very strange". After that Racius dies again randomly. The devs actually took into account the possibility for you to resurrect him and talk to him. He just screams and dies again if you do :))

Oh yeah! That can happen. The NPC's actually have "allied status" to other npc's but also to you. So sometimes if you are the one who is attacking an NPC the rest will attack your target. The opposite can happen too. If someone is attacking you they can all end up ganging you :)) Why does that happen? Who knows, G2 has a lot of weird engine quirks.

Hehe. Gothic has a few "Gotcha!" moments. Gothic: Chronicles of Myrtana has even more of those! I just finished recording an episode last night where I encountered a "Ghost Blacksmith" in Archolos, in the Misty Marshes.

Yeah I'm trying to fix that. It's a windows issue. For some bloody reason, windows sometimes without any logic resets the mic volume to a lower level. I have to monitor it for future episodes. Yeah those Seekers were a really cool enemy. Shame we didn't get to see more of them.

@@gamesand_stories Well it's pretty cool that as a mage you find out about who they really are... Fire storm spell they cast looks and sounds pretty cool.

@@mickeyl91 Sadly they are channeled spells so except the small fire storm, the other ones aren't really worth it. If you're attacked during a channeled spell, it's going to reset your channeling.

Not a bad idea, it's pretty easy really. Gonna make one on Saturday and upload it. It's just a few steps.

Gracias! Well magic works differently in Archolos. We basically find books that teach magic levels. The books are scattered throughout the map so we need to find them. Each new level has increasing costs. First level I think is 20 LP. 2nd might be 30, and so on. We also need to find runes, we can't create runes in Archolos either. Altars work in a similar fashion...if we donate gold to Innos he gives us buffs. If we donate learning points to Adanos he gives us permanent damage resistance. If we sacrifice stats to Beliar he gives us gold. Also COOL FACT! There's a hidden mechanic in Archolos so when it rains fire damage is actually weaker but LIGHTNING damage is stronger.

Lack of resources maybe. Still a lot to do and explore even without those old areas.. Plus the idea of the orc wall is that it's scary because you don't know what's behind it. As for those npcs you find yeah they could've found a better place to position them. Maybe a hidden cave under the map you can't get to.

I do the same for series I like, like "invincible" :)
