I have 3 Kessinger Cubs jerseys. I got to meet Don at an Illinois HS state baseball tourney-was sitting right behind me. I played SS because I loved watching Don play the position. He’s my favorite Cubs player of all time. I was always proud to call him a Cub. My 3 all time fave MLB players are R. Clemente, G. Brett, and Don Kessinger.

Wow. I remember seeing him play in the early 70s. I was born in 66 and my dad was a huge Cubs fan. He watched every game he could. I remember Beckert, Santo, Kessinger, Williams. What a great time.

I wasn't called the "egg bowl" then. That name was coined years later by a smart alec Clarion Ledger sportswriter, at the tail end of a season when both schools we're having bad seasons and neither having any chance to get in a bowl.

People will look back on this in 20 years and not know how scared people were that it would require herd immunity to get over the pandemic. That everyone would have to get it, get sick, and produce antibodies, and that vaccines wouldn't stop the spread. Well that's what happened. Everyone had to get sick in order for it to end.

I can’t tell you how many Cubs games I watched, I just never remember knowing anything about Kess personally or ever hearing him interviewed. (I do recall he had a nice legible signature).
