New subscriber here too, love the vid! I just cooked a 12 oz. bag of cranberries on the stove, then mashed them in the colander, retaining most of the liquid/cranberry fruit, without the skin and seeds. Added the left over fruit and juice to the bread machine, w/almost 1/2 cup sugar, teaspoon of lemon juice, 1/4 tsp. of salt, a small unsweetened serving size of apple sauce, and 1 small single serving envelope of plain gelatin. It's cooking now, keeping my fingers crossed, and it smells delish! Hope it's good enough for Thanksgiving dinner this week! Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!

I too love my kitchen arm bread machine. I make my own white bread for sandwiches, French toast etc. Every week. Howver, I use the dough #17 mode , then shape it, let rise in a loaf pan and bake for 20 min. Perfect everytime. I've also made pizza dough for a delicious money saving pizza. I'm now ready to use the yogurt mode to make Greek yogart but I did buy a yogurt strainer to take out the excess whey. I'm storing my yogurt in small gla as jars so I can top with fruit, honey or grainola. Sourdough is next! 😋😁

You're a lifesaver! Perhaps a bit strong on the praise, but here's how you helped me. I purchased my bread maker about a year ago and yet to make my first loaf. Well, today was going to be the day, but I misplaced my owner's manual/recipe book and could not figure out how to remove the bread pan. And that's how you saved me from being a loaf-oaf. Thanks.

I returned to your page to see if you had successfully rehydrated bell peppers (you mentioned doing an update). No luck. I don't imagine you'll have much luck rehydrating bell peppers without them tasting mushy. Bell peppers freeze really well. No blanching is necessary. Unless you plan on powdering the dry peppers or using them in a form that is a far cry from a fresh pepper, don't waste your time. Maybe in a pinch, it's ok. The best thing you can start doing is dehydrating potatoes and rice. Potatoes rehydrate AWESOME. Just make sure you stick to slices or shreds (not cubes). For some reason, cubes don't ever rehydrate properly (unless you slow cook it in something like a stew). Sliced potatoes will rehydrate back to almost their identical form to when they were fresh. You really can't tell the difference. And as for rice, think of it as making your own Minute Rice. Equal parts of rice to water, boiling water and in 5 mins you have perfect rice. And save yourself prep time. Dehydrate frozen veggies. A lot of the work like cleaning and blanching has already been done for you and you still save a fair bit of money (and time). Now I'm seeing your pressure canning video. A word of advice: watch a LOT of videos before you attempt something like pressure canning. Several videos talk about testing/practicing with your canner using something like water to just do a dry run and get used to the process. And look for a specific recipe based on what you have on hand. Chances are someone has canned/pressure canned it if it is safe to do so. We put off pressure canning years ago and it sat in it's original box for months. So we watched a lot of videos and we had 100% success on our first try and very few "fails" (learning experiences).

Also ...from experience...jam can splatter when the machine restarts...take a piece of wax paper and put it between the lid and the pan before starting cuz if it splatter on the lid...that's very hard to clean off.

  • @peepla7

You don't have to mash just like you don't have to peel...however that being said...some skins are stubborn...grapes for example...went through a whole cycle...smelled like jam, tasted like jam but the texture was wrong. Sent it through another cycle and perfect. Apples, grapes and blueberries seem to need 2 cycles on my machine. I'm thinking it also might be the volume (3 lbs) ...so if it doesn't jam in one cycle...do two.

I've semi-recently been using the iontophoresis device which is similar to what you described in the office but it sounds much smaller and easier to manage. Why restrict yourself to lard? Have you considered rendering fats from other sources such as chicken or beef? The process is simple enough with a few small appliances, a meat grinder or a food processor, and a slow cooker(Crock Pot on low setting for several hours). Strain the end product through a few layers of cheesecloth into jars. I am sure there are UA-cam videos to help guide you.
