100 Days Post Stem Cell Transplant Update!
February 17, 2018. Reminisce with me as I passed my first post transplant milestone! This was the first time in my transplant journey that I looked back on my transplant day and began to realize how far I'd already come. It was the most high stress and tearful 100 days of my life but all worth it in the end.
Keep pushing through the pain!

    I'm so glad to see the procedure was a success! Just came across this while surfing for videos related to stem cell transplants as my 17 month old son was just diagnosed with SCD. Hoping to get this procedure done soon. Could you let me know if some measures were done to protect your fertility? As I read the side effects could be loss of fertility.

      My Sickled Cells, first off, it is so sweet and kind of you to want to take time and chat with me. Thank you for doing that for me. I will most definitely reach out to you. I know my husband will be thankful as well especially since moving to Atlanta I had no one to talk to about my insecurities about this. Waiting really puts your mind through so much wondering. Like, is it really going to happen or why haven’t they find a match yet, even though I know it takes time and that God will never take something that is for me away, but I am human.

    In tears as I watch your video. My 3 week old just received an SS diagnosis and I don’t want her in any pain. Can You share tips on how to get on the transplant list? Was your donor a sibling and can share your experience on the after-effects of the transplant? God Bless you

    • @mysickledcells
      @mysickledcells 6 років тому

      Awe thank you :) I think for everyone the process is a bit different. For me I was only considered after I exhausted all other options. Red cell exchange and hydroxyurea were no longer helping. After my sisters persistence, my hematologist eventually considered me and did HLA testing (which is the matching process for myself and my donor) then sent in a referral to the BMT physician. Yes my older sister was a 10/10 match thankfully. I posted a few videos outlining my post transplant experience, take a look at those :) there is just a lot of side effects to list. Wishing you and your baby the best on this journey to health! Please let me know if there is anything else you need!

      @MiaMoenay 6 років тому

      My sister did it and someone actually reached out to us and let her know but speak to her Hematologist (sickle cell ) doctor ask them how you can get it started but I’m also going through it pretty soon so I’ll tell you what you need to expect: from someone who has it 13 years and my mom dealt with it for 19 almost 20 years and it will be hard to see her in pain but you’ll have to find ways to help her for me I was taking pills at 5 had to take several medicines to keep the pain down but but since she’s to young theyll be other ways I also did transfusions to keep it down they’ll be times out of no where waking up in the middle of the night in pain I hope this helped you but it’s so emotional for me I had to reply sorry for keeping you so long if you read this

      Diaspora Afrikan Renaissance Channel Thank you! Yes the chemotherapy and radiation definitely can affect fertility. At this point I'm not too sure what effects I will experience but I froze some eggs prior to transplant just in case. Egg preservation was definitely a long, hard and expensive process but worth the peace of mind now.

    Hello! Was wondering if you could go a little in depth on what you take so you don’t have the metal taste in your mouth. Thanks and good luck!

    • @Lgonzall
      @Lgonzall 7 років тому

      Also what’s a transplant binder?

    • @mysickledcells
      @mysickledcells 6 років тому

      Hey sorry about the delayed reply. But the metallic taste is as a result of the chemotherapy. Because it destroys your rapidly dividing cells, your mouth becomes quite raw and you lose your taste buds. I was just told that the destruction of those cells just leaves you with a weird taste in your mouth. But it eventually went away as my taste buds and mouth began to repair! Also a transplant binder is just the binder of information given by the doctor for your to review prior to treatment. It also is a place were you can keep track of your daily meds or side effects you experience during transplant and until the 100 day mark!

    Greetings, hope you are well. Great video! Keep up the good work 👍🏾 Question for you; how do you feel after the Red Cell Exchange? For me I don't feel good after it usually takes me like 2-4 days before I get to feel better. The procedure for me last on average 4-6 hours depending on the amount of blood units exchanged. Thanks 🙏🏾
