Grimdark Magazine
Australia
Приєднався 5 бер 2014
Grimdark Magazine is here to talk about dark and grimdark fantasy, cyberpunk, milSF, space opera, and horror in all of its glorious formats. We catch up with authors, review books, and announce our own books. Come and join us for a chin wag.
Every Grim Oak Press production has a RARE EDITION, and they are going up for auction for charity!
Shawn Speakman drops by the channel to talk all things Grim Oak Press books and his writing, including an exciting announcement about something that’s been sitting on book shelves for years and is about to hit the auction block in support of authors who are struggling with medical bills.
Shawn and I get into the business of publishing, including production problems, Kickstarter and Backerkit, modern small publishing and the cost of business, protecting reader communities, a brand new anthology UNAVOWED focussed on indie authors, and Shawn’s new Backerkit funding drive for THE DARK THORN (and all the awesome things you’ll get by following that project)!
Unfortunately the video recording hasn’t done us any favours, with Shawn being paused every few seconds for a couple hundred glamour photos, but the audio is perfect, so jump in and listen to one of the great modern small press owners let us know what’s coming out from Grim Oak Press.

Переглядів 18611 місяців тому
The grimdark fantasy horror novella, In the Shadow of their Dying by Anna Smith Spark and Michael R. Fletcher, includes one of the most visceral character experiences I've ever read, Inanr the Bound One. It's hand's down the best demon POV written in a fantasy book. Join us as Anna does a reading of the first Inanr chapter. Grab yourself a copy of the novella on Kindle or in paperback, here: US...

Interview with Michael R. Fletcher, author of Beyond Redemption
this video is almost officially 1 year old.
I hope they will eventually release the third part of this interview, but I'm estimating it could be a very VERY VERY VEEEERYYY long time...
"Put on your own mask first," you once said. If you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of anyone else, let alone save the world. What an excellent interview!
Looking forward to reading this guy!
Brilliant interview!
Thank you for watching!
when will they come out with the third part of this interview!!!!! see what i did there? hehe
We're never getting doors of stone are we. Just like we'll never get winds of winter. God it makes me so angry
26:47 THIS!! THIS IS WHY I LOVED THE SHORT STORIES ON AURI AND BAST!! YOUR WORLD IS SO FUN AND INVITING, BUT WE ONLY GET TO SEE KVOTHE DOING STUFF! Yeah, I love this story, but I am so very happy to learn more about those interesting characters and the wacky worldbuilding around them. I finished The Narrow Road Between Desires Yesterday, and I was so happy reading it… it had been some time since I was so invited by a book. I love your work, Mr. Rothfuss!
3rd book or disappear bro
Interesting interview thanks for doing it. The lady’s face could be a meme for adore. It cracked me up how she would get lost in the answer and then catch herself and straighten up a bit. I’m a fan too I’d do the same… I liked the insight on what he leaves out. I pictured the “prettiest girl in the school “ as what other people think of as prettiest. Somehow I didn’t make it personal. I need to go back and do a re-read before the third one comes out. Great interview!
Pat is back!!!! >D<)))))
Good luck, Pat. Even if I never know what lies beyond the Doors of Stone, I will always appreciate how much better of a person I've become from learning how to chase the name of the wind. DFTBA P.S.- My dad is Chicago born and raised, so fuck you. You may always be my favorite author, but fuck the Packers. Love, the child of a dead Chicago man. J.McGlue
I started with A Woman of the Sword (absolutely loved it) and then bought everything Spark has written.
Great video John! I've loved what I've read from Anna Smith Spark thus far! Can't wait to read more of her books! And please, keep making content!
Thanks so much for watching, P.L., and for all your encouraging words! It really means a lot to me. ❤️
Fine Youtubing there, Dr M!
Aw, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and share your kind feedback. Have a great day, Mark!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. ❤
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your kind comment! ❤
This is a big help! I enjoyed the heck out of In the Shadow of their Dying and have been wondering where to go next, cheers 🤘🏽
Thanks so much for your kind comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Happy reading!
Thanks for the interview.
Thanks for watching it!
I´m half way through The Name of the Wind and I´m loving it, but God dammit, what an unbearable pedantic fuck this guy is! It doesn´t affect my appreciation of his work in the least so far, but I didn´t expect him to be so unlikable.
Great review - I valued your honest opinion of the main character vs the rest of the story. Like you said, it won't put me off reading this book. Thanks
I’m glad to hear you’re going to give it a go! It’s too cool a concept to have so few reviews.
I'm 35% way through this book in 2024 and I'm shocked to realize this book didn't sell. I know grimdark isn't for everyone, but the initial offering of this trilogy, Beyond Redemption, is wildly original and just a fantastic book on its own. Every single character is great, the pride is fantastic, the world building and magic is top notch, and the story is interesting as shit. And I'm not even halfway through.
It was super sad to see, but he has punched out a bunch of amazing books since-including finishing that trilogy.
Excellent vid, mate. I'll be picking this one up.
Definitely worth a shot. I think there should be a far better market for this book than the GR page suggests.
Great video, Adrian
Thanks John! Hopefully the first of many from the GdM team in this format.
I coined grimcozy already 😛
DAMMIT MARK
Odysseus never mouthed off to the gods about their looks. It was Prince Paris.
It’s funny watching a wordsmith of his caliber speak colloquially- “He goes” “and he’s like” “and I go”
The con man fraudster Rothfuss surfaces from his self-pitying misery to give us all another round of his thoroughly shallow & utterly repulsive personality. He is quite possibly the most overrated over hyped so-called "writer" in recent history. Except he is not a writer & can not write.
Attacks the fans, them blames them. Real Peach.
I could just sit and listen to Pat talking for hours
I'd rather listen to him write
Just another big nothing burger. What a waste of my time to watch this.
Looking forward to hearing more about the Hag series. I have a copy of The Book That Wouldn't Burn, and I'll be checking out the next book in April once I'm through with it.
Me too, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Great interview! Thanks for this! Excited for the next book of The Library Trilogy. And still so long for The Hag :D
Thanks for watching!
If you’re looking for women authors who do dark stories, I cannot signal boost Sara Douglass enough. Her work in fantasy has gone so highly underapprecated in the modern lexicon of fantasy greats. Dark, sometimes darker than many authors would be willing to go.
F pattycakes never finish series waiting on TV deal rotface
This interview has been awesome.
Great but pointless interview..
"Philanthropist and author"
Lol 3:34 he doesn't want to answer the questions about when he's going to finish the 3rd book.
I say Boycott him! I am not giving him another penny. That will make a statement. It feels like he does not care about his fans. If you have not read Brandon Sanderson, give him a try. He never disappoints.

Joe Abercrombie ftw
I cannot wait to read!
Awesome.
I am a big fan of the series, well written, interesting magic system and the focus on economics and currency is interesting BUT I am completely disenchanted at this point. I fully understand and appreciate that art can't be rushed, that he doesn't owe us anything but it doesn't change how inconsistent his information has been or the complete lack of transparency. I guess Brandon Sanderson has me spoiled with consistent updates and progress bars lol.😂
He actually owes over $1 Millions dollars to the fans that donated money for a chapter that never came out. Pat's a grifter.
Not to mention Joe Abercrombie
@@Soylent2024 agreed. He is 100% a grifter and is never going to finish the series
I think he gets the principle of Chekov’s Gun backwards. It shouldn’t be, “If you see the gun over the mantle in Act 1 it should be fired by Act3,” it’s more of, “If the gun is fired in Act 3, it better be seen in Act 1.”
Shows how dumb Rothfuss really is - he's a total idiot.
I donated to pats charity during the fundraiser and I somehow manage to not accuse him of being a scam artist. It’s for charity… I didn’t buy a chapter, I bought a goat. As far as I’m concerned he can take as long as he wants to release a piece of writing which clearly means a lot to him and he has my full encouragement to do it however he likes. The lot of you that speak about “social contracts” and breaking promises don’t seam to understand the function or value of either. You’re cruel people hating on an imperfect person, but I can’t understand why. If anyone spoke to you the way you speak about this person, who, I will remind you, YOU DO NOT KNOW, I’m sure you’d be much quicker to wish the social internet was a more forgiving place. I’m not the victim of a scam here. I payed to help people less fortunate and that’s exactly what happened. I’ll wait for the chapter like everyone else because if he’s going to do something, I respect that he will take his time and do it right.
Tell it to his publisher. Just keep waiting for the 3 book you payed upfront 20 years ago.
No one cares
Thank you! Jesus. Someone finally said it. I really can't understand why people are so mad at him. OBVISOUSLY I am curious about Doors of Stone; OBVIOUSLY I've been waiting for years. But people... It's a book. Calm the f down hahahah plp act like Pat ran away with their money, I'm like '-' please chill
He didn’t even apologize for his scam! He feels bad though. So bad he wants you to spend 26$ on a rehashed short story.
Thank you Grimdark for the three part interview, it was very good!!! Thanks Pat!
Oh my gosh. He feels the same way about music that the Adem do, to some degree. XD
Kudos on not deleting negative comments.
