Jake Kaufman is a master composer. The way he laid out every flourish to make this song sound as full as it is, with a mere seven channels of monophonic audio! But then again, he also composed the original Shantae soundtrack for the Game Boy Color, whose sound card is ever so slightly more advanced than the NES

interesting thing I found out recently is that the duty cycle for square 1 differs between the first intro and the loop but for the .nsf file in particular, it doesn't get reverted when the verse starts, so the music sounds different by the time it loops no such issue on the actual soundtrack though
