    Awesome vedio!!!! My go to tricks are actually usually rubiks cube tricks but with a small keyring cube as I usually have that on me pinned to my trouses. If I don't have that on me I usually have a few tricks in my wallet such as wayne goodmans magicians insurance card. And just recently I got craig pettys key master which will become an EDC im sure! Are you going to Blackpool?

    What I did always do, was with a map force or the voodoo force, that I had the marks that the spectator set off on one location and I'd say: "sorry this is way off, we can't count that." And then the audience would defend that person and it moved the suspicion away from me. But I never throw an effect on purpose because I knew that me performing a lot, sooner or later something would go wrong. I read this "throwing an effect" in Pure Effect by Derren Brown like 25 years ago or so. And I just was like I have several psychological forces already which are not full proof and if they are I am not going to throw an effect, it's just a perfect evening. And especially since usually I had a 2 part show, 45 minutes mentalism and 50-60 minutes stage hypnosis. The latter is so unpredictable because you depend on the creativity and the vibe of the volunteers.

    • @chasingtheillusion52
      @chasingtheillusion52 Місяць тому

      Thank you for sharing your experience! I love how you used the audience’s reactions to deflect suspicion-it’s such a clever and subtle way to build credibility. The idea of not throwing an effect on purpose because mistakes naturally happen is a great perspective too, especially when you’re working with unpredictable elements like hypnosis or psychological forces. Derren Brown’s ‘Pure Effect’ is a classic, and I think it’s incredible how these ideas have stood the test of time. Thanks for the comment!!

    • @CallousCoder
      @CallousCoder Місяць тому

      @ Yeah Pure Effect and Devil’s a picture book are Derren’s masterpieces for the Magic community. It’s actually that book that got him on the radar or Andrew OConner after Andy Nyman declined the offer to start on tricks of the mind. I met Andy several times, he was an honorary member of Psycrets that I was a member off and we shared a weird coincide. Back when I was a musician I opened for Herman Brood (Dutch rock star) Andy played in a movie called Wild Romance about Herman. So he was fascinated to hear about the real man. Btw if you like espionage fiction, then Dyson and Nyman’s novel Warlock Effect is an absolute banger. A lot of mentalism and magic is described in that to push the plot.

      I nearly added a section about their 3rd member, he can also briefly be seen at 1:34 but as this video was purely about the duo, I decided not to include. There isn't much information about why he left either, apart from apparently he wasn't into performing on stage as much as the others which again, without much information, didn't feel like I needed to include him Thanks for the feedback though and watching the video!!

Honestly, a lot of friends and family members have commented their concern that my memory isn't great and I've been researching ways to improve it. I read a lot of scripts, listen to a lot of songs, and change my passwords as much as often to random letters and numbers and try to remember them. I find the passwords give me the extra sense of need to remember them because it will be an issue if I can't remember them! Hopefully my memory will improve over time 😅

    Hey man, I just recently got into mentalism and performed a few tricks for my nephews wedding recently. Having not practised them I was going in blind and I was amazed at the results I got, and the reactions were incredible and now I’m pretty hooked. I guess that’s the thing with mentalism- in order to practice it you have to perform it. There were people at the wedding that were like - oh do that to me! Do that trick to me ! and I didn’t want to do the same trick twice because I thought it would be too transparent and I don’t have a huge arsenal of tricks so how do you get around, not doing the same trick twice when people ask?

    • @chasingtheillusion52
      @chasingtheillusion52 7 місяців тому

      Heya, thanks for the comment! You got it right, going out and performing is honestly the best way to learn! There are lots of ways to get around not performing the same trick twice. The easy and expensive option is to buy more books or tricks to do with mentalism. The cheaper, more creative and harder way is to not learn more tricks, but to present them differently. You'll learn that most tricks, are the same method in some way, so take what you already know and have a different speech or presentation to it! If someone is asking to do the same trick you have just done, and they have seen you do, a way to get through this is by saying, "I actually think you'll do a lot better with something else, would you like to try?" And then perform a different trick or the same, just presented different like said before. Hope that helps ☺️

    • @FreddotheWheelchairGuy
      @FreddotheWheelchairGuy 7 місяців тому

      @@chasingtheillusion52 yeah that does help, luckily, I had a few packs of cards and did some other tricks. They work really well together, and once you've planted the seed that you can "mind read" you can get away with easier things with marked deck for example. I also added a great kicker to a mentalism 'think of a card" trick (not sure whats its called) with an invisible deck, revealing the original card he thought of - he was mind blown - "I'll be thinking of that all night now" I also heard from another magician "once a trick, twice a lesson" and I've used that a few times. If you have any other one liners like that then please share - also could be a good idea for a video if you fancied a deeper dive into it? It's very powerful stuff and I'm enjoying it a lot. Your channel is criminally undersubscribed, although I appreciate the small audience, makes it feel a bit special.
