Emerl was indeed in Sonic X, but unfortunately Sonic X's adaptation of Sonic Battle (the game where Emerl is from) wasn't entirely accurate. Emerl does indeed have the ability to copy abilities, yes. Even in the fight, you see that he only used the Spin Dash AFTER Shadow does it, that's because Emerl had to have witnessed it once in order to copy it. The 4Kids dub of Sonic X pronounced his name as "E-mel", but in actuality you're supposed to pronounce it similar to "Emerald", as Sonic gave Emerl that name based on the fact that Emerl absorbed Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Battle. Either way, looking forward to the other 2 episodes as well as the Sonic X Shadow Generations game itself!
