Really enjoyed your vlog and I’m glad you made time to do some touristy things as well, seeing as it was such a special trip for the both of you. I’ve been to NYC a couple of times but I actually never made it to Liberty island and Ellis island, mainly because the super long lines in Battery park put me off🙈

Ahh this was a great watch. New York has been on my travel list for years but my husband isn’t really interested and although we’ve never been to America, the events of 9/11 changed our lives. We lived in Saudi Arabia at the time and tensions became so elevated that most American nationals moved back home immediately, as advised by their government, leaving our town almost deserted. Terrible things were beginning to happen to any Westerners that remained, children’s schooling was becoming impossible with so few teachers and more threats, so eventually we had to leave what had been our home country for several years and head back to Blighty. So interesting to see your tour and to read other’s stories in the comments. Thanks for sharing.

What a lovely and touching vlog ❤ I remember visiting the Statue of Liberty years ago on a family road trip to NYC and D.C. from Ohio when I was a child (and climbing up the stairs to the top of the statue, which I recall being a breeze compared to climbing the stairs to the top of the Washington Monument 😅). But I’ve not visited it since, or the other sites in your vlog despite living in the D.C. area and having easy access to NYC. Your vlog inspired me to make it a priority to visit these places the next time I’m in NYC.

One of my earliest clear memories in my childhood was 9/11 where my mother had told me to stay upstairs in our house and not come downstairs and not to turn on the tv. Of course as a child, I turned on the tv and was terrified by what I saw but was rooted in the floor watching it for hours. On my high school graduation trip we spent a few days in NYC before going on a cruise and went to the museum. My parents, aunt and uncle, cousins, and myself all became so overwhelmed that we were all crying by the end. Blake decided on both trips not to go because of our reactions. Great coverage in the vlog.

Such an interesting vlog, and though I visited New York many times I actually saw some new things about New York I will explore the next time I’m in the city. Thank you so much for sharing your days in New York.

“When I need something that acts like a bag…” lol you have concretely sold me on Prada. I really like almost every bag I have ever seen from them! I sometimes feel like they are underrated here on UA-cam. They were the first designer boutique I ever visited… I was 20 but looked younger, and the SA was much older… I couldn’t afford to buy a bag so she kindly showed me gloves… I have a soft spot for the brand.

I lived & worked in Manhattan during the aughts, and was at the office on 52nd St. on 9/11. Very difficult time to say the least....I can still get teary. The "pile" as it was called, smoked for months as the emergency workers dug for bodies. I would not go to see it then, as I was reluctant to join in the tragedy tourism. I only went to the memorial years later at the urging of city friends, and was so glad I did. It's beautifully & respectfully done. Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant video Claire, I have never been to New York so found it very interesting and informative so thankyou for sharing. I would love to go but now Im middle aged its the thought of the travelling that puts me off. I did lots of travelling in my younger years and lived in Canada for 4 years and back then going to and from UK never bothered me as obviously had lots more energy!!! My father was among the 12 million who immigrated to the US in 1924 and was processed through Ellis Island. I have pictures of the ledger where their names, country of origin, and date of arrival is recorded. Along with my Grandparents is my father, Leo, and his siblings; Francis & Joseph. I am so proud of my Italian heritage. They worked so hard to forge a life in the US. My grandfather, Vincenzo, found a job lighting gas lights in St. Louis, MO. My grandmother, Nicoletta, could always be found rolling out pasta dough on the kitchen table making all shapes & sizes of pasta configurations. I am the first grandchild of my family to finish high school & college. Your rendition of your day on Ellis Island gave me goosebumps and shed a tear for my family’s good fortune to have made their way to America following the horrific influenza outbreak in Europe where my grandparents lost 5 children. Thank you for sharing. The pictures are excellent.
