🔥 love me some Gulf!
where did you get those hands? thanks!
@@grneal26 I got those hands so long ago... But I think I found them on eBay. It's been years though :/
Cool watch. I juat started purting oarts together of aliexpress. I have made two so far. Have a great day subed.
@@putnamehereholdmadoodle that's a great place to start. You won't always get perfect spec parts but for the price and how much you'll learn it's definitely worth it. There are some good sellers on there - may just take some time to see what you like and what works best with different cases. You're where I was about 5 years ago. Welcome on the journey buddy
I really like this style, where did you buy the case? and what's the dimensions?
@@Ajinomoto619 I have a guy I work with in Idaho on these cases. I have not actually measured one of these cases yet and do not have any on hand. I'll try to remember to come back and comment when I have one in. I kind of do NH builds in spurts as that's not my normal platform so I'm not as knowledgeable there. I'll try to follow up with more info but for whatever reason, I was thinking 44mm

Isn't the Miyota 2415 a quartz movement? Or is that a Vostok 2415?
@@grneal26 Vostok
@@brianvanway cool, what made you choose that over an NH seiko series movement. or a Miyota or ETA or ST?
@@grneal26 I pretty much have the market cornered with Vostok and little to no competition. Also where cerakote is concerned with tolerances, the acrylic glass on Vostok works best because it can flex whereas sapphire will crack if you force it into tighter tolerances from layers of cerakote. Pretty much all other builders/modders I know use those other platforms and I prefer to be different.
As a Dutchman myself, I have to ask; van Way ? Did an ancestor Anglicise that name or was it a case of "Smith" but not actually really knowing Dutch when arriving in New York ? Anyway- Cool watch 👍.
@@Tjalie-j6i they were Dutch when they arrived in the US 🙂
@@brianvanway So it originally was "van Weg" but got bastardized to "van Way" in the colonies. Normally that doesn't happen. van Weg means "from the road" or "the way". That must have happened a century or so later after leaving the fatherland 🇳🇱.
@@Tjalie-j6i for whatever reason I was lead to believe it was "from the meadow" but I'll check that out. My family is very small and my dad is the oldest male in the line - I don't think he really knows anything about it.
@brianvanway That would be van Weide or van der Weide. That doesn't mean the same thing or even sound the same way.⬅️sorry 😆 Weide in Dutch or meadow in English is pronounced "Wide-the" Weide if you had to make a similar English sound for it. From Weide to way sound is quite a big leap. Hey, who knows. If multiple generations after lost their own language skills it could have bastardized to something like way eventually,...Interesting 🤔. Anyway- Groeten vanuit het vaderland Nederland 🇳🇱 👋.
@Tjalie-j6i thank you for the info. I definitely would like to know more about my heritage and visit some day
Wow! what a beautiful watch! I love bead blasting on a case, I wish they were more widely available. I'm a very amateur watch builder but I aspire to such a great finish. I'm just making a couple of Soxa style watches atm and I hope they turn out half as good as this. Keep up the lovely work!
@@jezzamatic thanks man! Bead blasting can be rough, you really gotta hit them with air afterwards thereafter.... Love to see some of your work man
Hope to see 1200 more !

What does a Custom Watch with that cost ... reach out ...
@@the.incubator.mastermind hey hey, this one is already gone but something similar would be 475-500 Would take about a month on one similar
@@the.incubator.mastermind hey hey, this would be about 525 (max) or anything similar to this style but in the range of 475-525
Great build, how about the pricing?
@@ΗλίαςΤσιλικίδης thanks man! I would do 425 on this - it is still available. I cover 15 in shipping
What are you charging for finished build?
@@ExposedRoot they range from 400-650 just depending on parts cost -the cerakote ones are more because I have at least 100 more in them. So I'm usually at cost +100-125. Like this build would be 450. But I run events on my Facebook page and you could win this watch for 22 dollars.
Where is everybody?? Great stuff.
@@ExposedRoot I play to a small crowd 😅 and most everyone is quiet. It's ok though. More directed to the people either wanting to buy it (pre last name in the title, once there's a name, it's gone) or for the person who now owns it.
Dude your "ok google" Phantom thing is playing inmy home now. Update... You did it again with the time.
@@ExposedRoot can't go wrong with Phantoms! :) I usually have them playing before I start videos. I have an Alexa in my office and it's funny when my TV or a video I'm watching turns it on. Reminds me of the people gaming online that'll have their username as xboxshutoff so that when someone says the name their system shuts off 😅
Ever heard of overwinding?
@@donchodon4245 yes sir, over winding on movements without a slipping mainspring is bad - but you don't have to worry about that with the nh movement or the 2415s I use - they have slipping mainsprings that act like a clutch and stops adding power to the movement.
The colorful accents on the strap are really striking. Is there a name for that look or a references you can share for that specific strap? Thanks for sharing in any case, lovely piece.
@@t0asta hey hey, we just call that an Italian pierced leather strap - and I pick the colors out ahead of time on stitch. I have a few I've had for over a year on hand just waiting for the colors to align well enough to use them. I have around 300 straps on hand as more often than not I build around the dial and hope for the best on matching the strap, assuming I'll find something - so far it's panned out but I always have the option to do an SS that matches the case as a fall safe
Nice watch.
where did you get the strap from
@@bbrvdh9405 Tuan makes straps for me. HD Straps
Very cool stuff man, not cheezy not a gimmick looks, very nice. In the end a decent movement is important sure but really a watch is about the look. Nice wok man.
Nice!
What is the purpose of a gmt bezel without a gmt 24 hr hand?
@@loganpierce9244 I often do hour bezel inserts on minute reference hands and do minute inserts when I have hour referenced dials. I do the 2 to 24 GMT inserts with my 24 hour movements. For the movements that have a GMT hand, it is tied to the hour pinion and works as a dual time, no independent movement for the GMT. Therefore I use my hour bezel inserts on dials that have minute referencing at the edge of the dial or for watch dials that have no indices.
Or simply put, solely to index the hours since I cannot use these inserts for anything other than that with my movement options.
Can't you still use that 12 hour bezel insert to track a second time zone without the need for a GMT movement?
Beautiful watch.
@@vhusan thanks man!
As a fellow watch modder, how do i get started on making my own dials? Ive built a few watches, some with after market dials and oem seiko dials.
@@thhizon if you want to make your own, you'll need a 5-8k fiber laser so you can laser steel, brass, aluminum. You may want to work with a dial maker initially on your dials. Generally you'll be in the 30-70 dollar range depending on type of metal, if they are luming or painting etc. You may join a fiber laser group on FB, as well as a modding page or two for some connections and info.
Why use the NH38?
@@Mad-Coo because using an nh35 would have a date wheel that wouldn't be used and using an nh70, NH71, or nh72 skeleton movement wouldn't be visible. Any other NH movement would have additional complications I would need to remove (date wheel etc) or features you wouldn't see.
I love that watch
@@nerdwithswag5282 thanks man!!
Also, what movements are you using?
@@toddd9500 2416b that I remove the date wheel and gearing on
Who makes or where did you get the cases and bracelets?
@@toddd9500 Cases came from Ukraine; the link bands come from Singapore but can be bought on Amazon.
Very unique and different I appreciate this kind of design language. Tactical and useful tool watch but also a combination of features that are not seen often. Well done!
Great build. I've got an automatic skeleton fossil watch that looks a lot like this. I know fossil gets a lot of hate but the one I have is great IMO!
@@BrentBriggsBriggzee I bet we have the same one because I too have a Fossil like this one. Some of my first watches were Fossil and they work great though the bulk were quartz and when you open them up, the movement is quite tiny versus the dial/case.
very nice looking watch bud, well done.
Hi Brian. I got some scratches on my Coast Guard watch face and cannot find the cleaner you sent to tale off the scratches. How can I get in touch to IM you?
@@whamajamma75 you can get at me on the Facebook link at the beginning of the video. What you'll want to buy is PolyWatch - should find it on Amazon for about 7-8$ and that tube will last you forever. You just need a tiny dab on there and just start buffing it with a micro fiber. It's slightly better / quicker than what I send - I buy novus 2 from Amazon and then put it into plastic containers (I can do them for less than a dollar a piece in bulk) but it's a large container. PolyWatch is what you need buddy
Do they have a cost? What's the price? How would one find out?
