Uberleben 1/2” hexa ferro rod. Not actually what they claim. Worth it?

Not the cheapest ferro rod on the market at $32 UPDATE: After leaving a three star review and calling out the discrepancy in sizing, Uberlben offered to give me a full refund, no need to return the product. I just want them to be honest about the sizing. That’s it. I don’t want a refund. I just want the next person considering buying one to not feel cheated a bit when it arrives. Its a 7/16ths ...

Gordon Multitool (Harbor Freight) for Alone?
Переглядів 4,7 тис.4 місяці тому
IMPORTANT UPDATE: After testing the function of the Gordon for about a week now and really liking the tool in general, a small burr formed on the pliers, kind of in a weird spot. I didn’t remember doing anything that would have caused that. A few hours later, I noticed a second burr- almost like a pimple forming in the metal. Strange, indeed. Used the tool today for an hour helping here and the...

That looked like you had a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing that.
Love this video! You are improving your editing so much!
Thank you so much!!
National Forest camping was something I always wanted to do, minus the crowds. Kevin has an amazing memory and sense of direction after not being to the camp site in several years. Shame he found a remote section the forest that even the squirrels had a hard time finding
That owl musta ate them all. Thanks for going along!
I had an awesome time with Kevin on this trip. Weather was dry but wonderful. Learned something things, the first being lighten the load in the backpack!
I think we’ve all been there. I carried a 6 lb tent for three days (in addition to a heavy pack) and didn’t even open the thing once. I would have had to make two trips with that pack. You did fine.
Thanks for sharing this adventure with us buddy.
Well, right back at you- I appreciate all you have been doing with Outdoor Dads as well as the solid advice you have given.
Great video! I was thinking the fixed saws would be better, but I was gonna get a curved one but now I want both
Hello buddy would you mind doing a update video of your leatherman surge please
You have done an excellent JOB! really like some of your ideas. Note: the Leatherman Mut Saw can be modded to fit where the serrated blade is..HOWEVER it is very very very expensive to source. At this point all I would do with yours is to improve on the ergonomics as much as possible. Removing every sharp edge so that it becomes more comfortable over longer use. You can also create stickers for the handles that will give you a super reflective surface for signaling etc.
Honored to have a comment appear from one of my favorite channels! The MUT saw costs almost as much as the entire Surge, from what I have seen. Maybe someday. The signaling stickers is a really great idea. Thank you!
@nightshadefern162 I need to check other cheap multitools to see if something can be carried over...I wish they would release a new outdoor surge. Keep it up, love to see ppl tinker.
Mine broke in the same place.. back to the Leatherman!!! its a forty dollar tool. I should have known better
live and learn
I ordered a saw for the MUT from eBay, using PayPal, a few years ago. I didn't have any problems. Item works great. I was following the same Alone concept.
I did get some parts from ebay from a Hawaii seller. I just have reservations about Ukrainian sellers. They may in fact be on the up and up, I would rather not find out the hard way.
LOL! Yeah, the silly definitely won that contest! 😂
Love the piece! Thanks for sharing.😊
Thank you! 😊
Have an awesome day
You too!

Thanks and welcome!
Excellent share, new friend here.
I carried Surge for three years in carpentry before it got stolen (I know its you Jacky you little wanker), I'm planning to buy new one and modding is the first thing I want to do with it, for sure I'm going to make a small screwdriver from the can opener and grind down normal bits to fit the bit holder. Great idea with the pocket clip and chisel bits.
It was definitely Jacky.
Is there anything you can’t mod? Very cool 🥰
@@lapis.exilis Thanks. Haven’t tackled space craft yet, but you never know.
Outstanding
Thank you
Hello buddy please more videos of your leatherman surge some updates please thank you
I think the victorinox Swisstool x is the best for survival and still practical for everyday
The Surge’s removable file so it can self sharpen gave it that one extra point it needed to win me over. If I wasn’t trying to build the tool with such odd constraints, the Swiss x would have been worthy of definite consideration. The Signal, Supertool 300, Swiss X and Wave+ were close.
I have a Swisstool X I bought new in 2004 when they came out. I had to retire it this year because the blade is half worn down and won't hold an edge. the file is worn out and the scissors need to be overhauled. The Phillips screwdriver should be replaced as the point is damaged. I'm heart broken that Victorinox does not offer a rebuild program or replacement parts. I picked up a cheap Surge clone to see if I like the style. There are several things about it I like better than the Swisstool X. 1) I can open the knife one handed, 2) the file, saw and screwdriver are replaceable. I will miss the Swisstool X but the Surge design is winning my heart.
The Surge is definitely easier to mod. I was under the impression that Victorinox does a lifetime warranty- could you send it in for refurb? (or would they just give you a replacement?) If you were looking for a one handed opening Leatherman, the Free P4 has a good tool set. It was just discontinued, so getting one is increasingly difficult. Thanks for the comment!
Too cool. 2 questions for ya, 1. Do you sell them and 2. Where are you located at?
Hey, I know you, was watching some of your videos. I’m roughly two hours north east of you. Yes I sell the carvings.
Is this still available?

This kind of breakage usually occurs when the molten steel has too much of impurities in it. Can happen to any manufacturer, as the same batch of steel in the same furnace is usually uneven from bottom to top. Think of fresh orange juice. Heavier substances sink and light ones float in a fluid. The copper-like surface may be of the earliest ones casted in this batch, since the manufacturer want to cut down the cost as best as they can, and copper (and its iron alloy) is heavier than iron, it sinks to the bottom, not being disposed of, enters the mold and forms this plier head. Forging, milling and drilling may or may not develop visible cracks during further manufacturing, so it's up to the quality control to go ultrasonic, dye penetrant and eddy current. Which I guess neither Leatherman or these China-man is willing to invest in. Lifetime warranty is a lot cheaper than non-destructive testing all parts before assembling, and, sounds a lot better to a general consumer. Yes I know it's not politically correct to call these Made in China Leatherman clones "the Chinaman", but I love, use and abuse these Chinaman for all the possibilities they open up😅
My favourite part is the little chisels/carving tools. So cool!
Thanks. Carved a spoon for my wife as a trial run.
I'm still waiting for Victorinox to release a Felix Immler Bushcraft Multitool.
You and me both.
Those are some great ideas for general carry as well a person may not always be carrying all the accessories around when a job needs to be done. Have you ever thought about doing a surge /sT300 hybrid? Opens up some other options.
Thank you. I am not familiar with that (sT300) but I’m about to research it.
I can be dense sometimes… Super tool. So that was the runner up when I was looking at multitool to build, the p4 was interesting as well. Since I had the Wave+ clone and had some ideas for mods, the Surge just worked best. The st uses different types of connectors for the toolset, so I am not sure how a hybrid could work. Not that it couldn’t- with a welder and grinder all things are possible. Ill be keeping my eyes open for a used supertool to mess with.
@@nightshadefern162 there are a few (very few) videos on the surge ST300 hybrid. Basically you replace one of the surge handles with a ST300 handle. One of the internal tools on the st300 is a saw. Many prefer the cutting prowess of the st300 saw over that of the wave.
Good info, thank you
looks a little rough, but hey, if it works it works thanks for the video
Not exactly mirror polished, but it definitely works.
I look a little rough so it would suit me perfectly.
Gotta love the surge!
It is head and shoulders better than other tools. The removable file puts it in a league that very few other tools are in.
You should do picture-in-picture with body cam footage for some close in action footage! Looks great, all I've ever made is firewood 😂
I need to get one of those chest rigs for the gopro.
Unreal!!!!! You’re too cool, sir! ❤️🥰❤️
Thank you!
I stopped trying to tell people that the bibury is better and only 28
Yeah something is wrong with that casting. Looks like they put cheaper (softer metals) inside as fillers 🤔
it would not make financial sense for the manufacturer to intentionally do so, but sometimes similar result is achieved by cost-cutting during manufacturing😂
Thank you for reminding me where this video is...shared it on my channel and subbed
Thank you good sir!
That's an excellent invention! Lovely work, thanks for making the video.
Thank you very much!
Every Harbor Freight I have been in since has completely eliminated their Gordon tool display- there were formerly a few knives and things. The Gordon multitool never actually hit the shelves, they had them in the back. Anyone else see similar things? And, since it keeps getting asked, I kept the broken Gordon for use as parts should I get a leatherman wave based tool. I did not try to warranty it out, though they told me it has a lifetime warranty. I did get in contact with HF, to tell them about the failure- this is so they become aware of the problem and could potentially correct it. I was impressed with the knife in particular- seemed to be decent enough steel that held an edge. As I said, I really wanted to like the Gordon, it had many good points… but it broke. I have since bought a leatherman Surge and have been impressed with it- although the Gordon knife blade seemed to be harder steel- the Surge gets like ribbons shedding when it is sharpened (incidentally, so do new production Victorinox blades)It does get sharp, but the steel is not as hard and the edge wears faster as a result.
@@nightshadefern162 I'm g9nna see if my brother in law will allow me to test the hardness of his SOG. I'll find the model of his sog too...that thing is exceptional and cost about 65 bucks brand new. Full size like a surge...lots of tools, great scissors...honestly I always have a knife so I never use the knives on any of these...but I have a feeling the sog is better than both the wave and the gordon...but then again...let's see what the numbers say first.
Interesting. Hope he gives you the go ahead. It might be interesting to test the blade hardness from my Gordon to see how it stacks up.
@@nightshadefern162 you very much can send it in if you'd like. If yours reads 62 and mine reads 55, or whatever it was, that will be a testament to incredible inconsistency. Getting a good or bad heat treat would be...luck of the draw I suppose.

I've broken a gen 1 and gen 2 Wave. Leatherman sent me a gen 3 when I sent the gen 2 in for repair. Now I abused the original Wave. That failure was entirely on me. The second Wave just plain shouldn't have broken, period. Point is, anything can break; even the very best. Now I've been EDCing the Gordon for about a month so far. It's held up beautifully. Is it as durable as a Leatherman? Undoubtedly not, but it's not bad. It remains to be seen whether the Wave is worth three times as much.
The key is the scraper, If you can buy tungsten steel or ceramic scrapers, the scraping experience will be improved by several levels.
Keep us posted if Harbor Freight replaced it for you.
