Honda Rancher Shift Problems - How it works - How to fix ALL PROBLEMS!!!
Переглядів 175 тис.5 років тому
I tell you how to fix pretty much every problem you can have with the Honda Rancher or Foreman ES shift system. Starting with the ECU Computer (which displays dashes on the screen when it won't shift). Very simple fix (see subzerosound.com). Video then shows the shift motor and reduction gears (angle sensor is on same assembly). Then the video shows the shift linkage under the front cover. Thos...
Thanks for the video
Shifts fine up and down manually. Have replaced the shift motor and angle sensor. Think the bypass would work?
Wow incredible work perfectly ty very much
Thank you wee very helpful. God bless
thanks for video, well explained
Will this work on 03-05 Honda Rincon 650? It keeps throwing TPS code but done changed and set it
The Bypass Shift Kit will work on all ES models, and will fix the Shift Buttons on Hondamatic models (but not the AUTO Mode). Go to subzerosound dot com.
If the speedometer/cluster/gauge screen is dead or unplugged will it effect the shifting? 2006 TRX400FA
That will cause the computer to stop shifting. The Bypass Kit can fix the shift buttons on an Automatic (with technical support).
@@bubbabaryl3422 Thanks, I have the shift motor jumped at the moment but there is mechanical issues also, so I've got to pull the engine and go through that. Bought the thing to fix up and sell but have quickly realized all the parts I need are no longer available.
I have a 2000 honda foreman 450es four wheel drive nutrial reverse light on can't get reverse light on off.i have tried everything
By a bypass harness
What about PS problems, anybody dealt with this issue?
mine shifts but stalls when it goes into gear?
Adjust the clutch first before digging too far, that was all mine was.
A shift computer failure usually results in the gear number flashing "--". A clutch failure will shift gears with the gear number changing in the Display, but then the engine will rev as the clutch slips. Very different symptoms, but it may not be a bad idea to adjust the clutch anyway, though I have not adjusted my clutches on my 2000 Rancher and 2000 Foreman and they run great.
my rancher doesn't make a sound at all when i try shifting. Starts fine in neutral and wont up or down shift. I'm guessing it is the gear switch. If anyone else has any ideas, I already tested the switches in the handle bar, replaced the motor assembly and sensor. 2001 350TE ES
I got one of those harnesses but as soon as I hit the shift button up or down it blows the inline fuse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I provide technical support when you buy a bypass kit from me. The amazon and ebay sellers do not provide any support.
Hey Mr Bubba. I have a honda rancher as well. It will shift in all gears, but it want move. What could be the problem?.
Hello, there is a problem on my 2008 Honda trx250tm ES fourtrax. the indicator on the display shows a different position compared to the position on the gearbox. for example on the screen it says that the gearbox is in first gear, but the gearbox is actually in neutral and the green light for neutral does not light up. when I press the small handle and the button down to put it in reverse, the green light for neutral comes on and the gearbox is in reverse gear. I note that I can't get the letter R on the screen at all. I changed the angle sensor but everything is the same. Does anyone have a solution?
Where do u buy that bypass system , I only find it for 450 and 350 , I have a 2007 trx400fa that only goes 25 after that it reves up and doesn't shift I've replaced carb, angle sensor, shift motor, battery, almost everything and still have the same problem
subzerosound dot com has bypass kits for most Honda models, including the Pioneer. You have an old Hondamatic which the kit will work in ESP mode only, but not AUTO mode (it will not work with the new DCT automatics). However, you may have a mechanical problem. Contact bubbabaryl at gmail with more details.
Fantastic! This is the type of video that makes the foundation of youtube strong and robust.
Do you make a foot shifter for a 2001 Forman so I do not have to use es at all ?
Do the newer ranchers like 2021 have these same problems or is it more resolved
I see keyboard riders on the interwebs all saying honda is the most reliable then I see all the comments here.
They are engine wise. You wouldn’t have this problem with a foot shift😂
I have a Honda Rancher 2006 TRX350TE. You did not show connecting wires to the wires from the shift button box. I have eleven wires here : White / yellow stripe. White / blue stripe. Black / red stripe. According to your directions this last one for a 2006 should be a White / red stripe. I don’t have one that color. Should I use the Black / red stripe instead ? Just wanted to check before I cut wires !
2004 forman 450 es pops in and out of gear never stays in gear new motor please help Thanks
Watch the video and remove the front cover. Use manual shift tool to watch every component move as in the video. You can get technical support from subzerosound (dot com).
Could you provide a link to where you purchased this?
subzerosound dot com (use a period after subzerosound and then add com) Note that youtube filters out actual website links in the comments.
@@bubbabaryl3422 Thank you! Merry Christmas!!
will this work on rancher 400 it doesnt have the manual lever
Yes and no. It will work with the shift buttons only in ESP mode, but not in Auto mode.
Thank you for the video I'm not having trouble yet this is a preemptive step for me thanks again
This is the kind of shit that make legetimate shops not want to work on peoples stuff all this frankinchanic BS .
I have your the Bypass System from subzerosound. But the New shift motor gets stuck At that pont will not shift or Mannal Un till you take the shift motor off and than it wll shift Mannal
You can get technical support from subzerosound. The shift motor is not part of the Bypass Kit. You must have a good shift motor for the kit to work. You should watch the video because it tells you why the shift motor would have problems functioning properly, or you can email subzerosound for help.
The foremans dont have issues like the older 420s did ... dont know why but my 500 still to this day has been under water and mud numerous of times and still works , but this seems more complicated than just to fix it. I mean at least you dont have to worry about it but you still eventually will lose a relay and it wont work
Many people have driven through deep water, and regretted it later. Do not be fooled by the youtube videos of ATVs in deep water, because almost all of them have problems after they did that. Ask Honda and they will tell you not to drive through water deeper than 1 foot. The Foreman 500 has as many problems as the Rancher 420, which in both cases is very few. Replacing the computer is very expensive, and it is difficult to remove the old computer and then install the new computer without bending/breaking some of the 50 or so pins. I have one Honda that I could not remove the old computer (without breaking it) because the connectors had glued themselves together with age. Replacing a relay is very cheap and easy.
Where do I get the bypass system from?
The ECU Bypass System is available on the web at subzerosound (dot com). It will fix the most common computer related problems. There are other mechanical problems that can cause shift failure, but subzerosound will provide technical support that includes work-arounds for those.
what is the TIMER for..?
Honda designed the system so that the computer (ECU) only applies voltage for a quarter second or so. When you bypass the computer, the voltage stays on as long as you press the button. The Timer on the Bypass System (from subzerosound) will only apply voltage for a quarter second (just like the original design).
i put a bypass harness on this one.. got the shift motor to work. BUT.. the dam shift shaft does not return back to a neutral position. so when you go to shift to the next gear. it wont. unless you tap down first ever so slightly. THEN it will go to the next gear.. you have to do this with every gear. up or down. it's like the dam shift return spring is not strong enough to return the shaft back to a neutral position.. i put a NEW shift return spring in it. nothin..i even added a EXTRA shift return spring on the outside shift shaft.. still same problem... im at my wits fkn end with this thing. i got the harness off amazon. it has 2 relays on it.
I'm having the same issue with a 350es in my workshop. Did you end up working it out?
You get no support when you buy on amazon. You should buy from the inventor at subzerosound (dot com). He has lots of tips and tricks that will get it shifting like butter.
Mine shifts it just revs up instead of moving it does it in all gears including reverse it's been sitting for a while but I think it might be the clutch because it happened when I rolled it down a hill engine still runs strong to this day lol just wont engage the gear
I went to sub 0 and ordered one of those it does not work does not work it was real shotty electrical or cool connections fell apart had to rewire When all was said and done it did not work 150 bucks out the door
You did not buy from subzerosound because their kits are $60-100. They have free wiring installation support, and they will replace or refund on request.
Well done and thorough video. I enjoyed watching.
My 2012 skips from 2nd straight to 5th at high rpm dangerous on hills. Broken reduction gear maybe?
Mines doing the same thing. Did you figure out the problem?
You probably have an automatic transmission. The ES models have a shift drum in the transmission that will only turn enough to shift one gear at a time.
I’m having problem with mine down shifting it won’t shift past 3rd gear but I can shift it up but now lower then 3rd what would my problem be
Bubba Baryl : THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TALLANTS HERE SIR . BEST BLESSINGS .
I’ve got a problem with my 2012. In second gear it clicks. Any ideas?
Is it those gears, if all the gears work manually and has had all new sensors and motor?
Tank you so much for this video, extremely helpful
i dont buy anything with ai
Great video, was very helpful!
Thank you!
What IF the shift motor itself is sticking ? Then your bypass still won't shift, right ?
The shift motor must be functional (a new one costs about $50).
@@stephenharner5938 ok thanks, do you know if when I pull the shift motor off will the three onboard small gears stay put on the shift motor or with the small gears fall out on ground? I ask as if the gears fall out, I can't see enough to reinstall gears back onto mount.
are you still selling these?
Wondering myself
Hey UA-camrs!!👋🏼 What size is the nut that holds the clutch plate on AND is it left hand thread or standard lefty loose righty tighty?
Hey UA-camrs! For future reference. 27mm but a 1-1/16" will do the trick too!
Hey Bubba, how do you check the shift motor if its off the quad? A positive to one wire and a ground to the other?...
