What is the best guitar pickup?

Talking a little bit about pickups today and my thoughts on how you should shop for your ideal pickup. Not prescribing any specifics but I have really enjoyed my BKP Nailbomb/Cold Sweat combo!

    I have yet to experience any issues with my controllers not being recognized, maybe I'm lucky. I did recently factory reset my Quest 3 because the games seemed really dark. That helped a ton. Maybe try factory resetting your Quest.

    I can’t even create a meta horizon account due to app error, with a brand new meta 3

      I remember there was a period where you could not download any games even if it was something you had purchased. There are definitely some major bugs and inconveniences with Meta, I have not ran into that account creation issue yet.

    Nice overview and thanks for the insights. I wonder, how long does it stays in tune?

    • @DolphinReview
      @DolphinReview Місяць тому

      Tuning stability on this model has been great, of course with large fluctuations in temp (summer to winter and such) you'll probably have to do some minor adjustments. I regularly can go months without touching it if temps are consistent

      @@DolphinReview Hey man, thanks for quick reply : ) But for example, when you tune it and plays a song, or two? How long can it keep up?

    • @DolphinReview
      @DolphinReview Місяць тому

      @@TheSkrndelj It should stay in tune between multiple songs if your strings are properly broken in, there are locking tuners and tuning will hold if your initial setup is good

    it's too bad Carmack left but looks like a decent product - can't wait to see the Visor and other sets over the next few years

    I would advise against changing pickups because they don't really make a big difference, especially when distortion is involved. There are other parts of the signal chain that will influence the sound significantly more and they don't require modifying the instrument. There's a difference in output between pickups, definitely, and they may have some tonal differences when played clean, but it won't even come close to justifying the price, and no one listening to your music would know the difference. If you were to record the same riff before and after swapping pickups, and run them through the same signal chain, and listen to the recordings back to back, they'll pretty much sound the same. If you get into a recording or gig setting, then your pickups *really* don't matter. Watching pickup reviews doesn't help much since you're not really hearing the pickups, you're hearing that person's signal chain. If you really wanted to know what the pickups sound like in relation to your own, you'd need to get a DI track from that person, and run it through your own amp. But even then, like I mentioned, the sound a pickup may have gets completely lost when the signal gets distorted, and really no one cares what pickups you have, they just care if you sound good, and you can sound good with a random $30 pickup.

      I can agree with a lot of this, I do think working with other parts of the signal chain will help your sound a lot more than changing pickups. In metal playing I think the higher output a pickup has at least in my experience helped me enjoy my tone more (not that anyone else would be able to discern that or care). At the end of the day its about the personal satisfaction you derive from the instrument and dollar per dollar there are likely other things you can spend money on to improve your sound. Thanks for your feedback, love to hear others thoughts!

      @@DolphinReview Yeah I prefer higher output pickups as well, I just find them easier to work with since they're already pushing the amp harder, especially for coil splitting. Splitting an 8k humbucker down to 4k is silly since a regular single coil is like 7k, so around 15k is a good spot for me when it comes to humbuckers. I choose pickups based on price, aesthetics, and output, the sound of them is a nonfactor. Picked up a cheap Wilkinson humbucker for a Fender Strat that I was converting to a single humbucker, and it sounds like a guitar with a humbucker in it, it's sick. XD

    Whats your signal chain? The low end seems really woofy (room noise?), Maybe try a neural dsp or another plugin for tones if you don't have a lot of acoustic treatment? Thanks for the review, keep it up. Would love to see those other guitars.

      Its straight from the FM3 to my guitar and through a DAW. I did use a pretty basic clean sound with some verb but I can try some different tones for next time to address some of the issues you brought up. Thanks for watching! I'll likely be doing the Aristides next!
