I made it as a Nurse for 30 years and walked away 3 years ago. I gave up my license and have no interest in workiing in helathcare.. The good part is that a lot of the needed skills: time management, assessments, documentation, problem solving, etc are easily transferred to other jobs.

Grass is always greener on the other side. Business manager here for 30 years, making $200k+. It is stressful, result and deadline driven.

I understand burnout in your career but working in the business sector is a whole different animal. I’ve recently transitioned from a high level business career of over 20 years to a healthcare career (scrub tech) I make about the same money as I did as a high level manager (6-figures plus) but don’t have to job hop every 2-3 years, don’t have to travel, have really zero direct reports and except for the rare instances I take call shifts I leave my work, at work. I totally wish I’d gotten out of business career rat race sooner. Good luck to you transitioning to the business world, blessings.

I was YOU WHEN I STARTED IN NURSING BACK IN THE 30;S nothing has changed. i quit until 1953 then i went back since i need the bills paid since my husband left us for another women. i had 4 kids. so i went back. in 1957 i met a dr named henry, henry showed me hwo to love myself and patents in a patient way.. we laughed we loved we talekd, we lived. i met a intern nurse that lookd just like you she was frendly and smart, after showing her the ropes she decided to leave to be a rim cart manufacturer so wen she left i said tasia r u leaving cause of the patients or because of whats ocming? she said thwe later. i was shocked . you ar so true good fo ryou im about to retire in a month and seeing whats next

Healthcare blows. To stressful , to many hours. Not worth it for the little pay

I have a business degree and am thinking about going for an absn with no healthcare experience. Tough call...

All the things you described about loving nursing had nothing to do with the job itself . You spoke about loving your co workers and your schedule . That alone shows me nursing isn’t for you.

I am right there with you except no nursing experience about to try a new job within the department that overseeing the finances of the nursing floors within a huge healthcare system. I’m very nervous and trying to find purpose as well! Best wishes for you, there’s a lot of jobs within finance/accounting plus having that nursing background.
