    Hello, is that a table vacuum cleaner you're using? Is it enough to avoid resin dust fyling all over as I've seen other artists using plexiglass cages to protect themselves? Good luck with your dollmaking work 🙂

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 29 днів тому

      Hi! As for me, the small vacuum is enough if you work very closely to the fan (but still I want to buy more professional one). It is crucial to check and change filters. I have plexiglass dome, but I decided to use good head mask instead, because this way I see better what I do:)

    Hello! I had a question about molds. I intend to use mine to mold air dry clay, so I won't need to pour resin or anything in it. I was wondering if you cut a one piece mold all the way down to bottom on one side, wouldn't it essentially perform like a 2 part mold?

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 2 місяці тому

      Hi! I never did two-part mold this way, I assume if you will cut it with enough ‘roughness’ it could work.. If you will decide to try it, please write back, I am intrigued :)

    Well I guess I vastly underestimated the time making molds and casting a bjd would take. It looks just as laborious and time consuming as sculpting the doll itself. Only much more stressful, unpredictable and more expensive since I'd have to purchase a pressure pot

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 2 місяці тому

      Yes, it is very time consuming, but when I start getting first results (like the first assemble of a master doll) I usually became very motivated to proceed:) miniature is some sort of magic for me 🪄

    Hello! Thank you for this video. I know it's a bit older. I am interested in making molds and I saw someone melt the clay and pour it in to the bottom of the mold box. Do you think that would work with doll parts as well or is it better to just form it the way you have done here? Thanks!

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 2 місяці тому

      Hi! Ladoll (that I am using for sculpting) can’t be melted. I know only about monster clay that can be melted and poured, I guess it can work. But it’s used only for master model, it doesn’t last long.. as I know for the ‘final’ doll the resin is the only option (if we’re talking about silicone molds)

  • @steveelkins52
    @steveelkins52 3 місяці тому

    I have watched all your videos, and admire your abilities, its the aesthetic that troubles me... is a plastic doll or a porcelain doll better? I think you have gone to extraordinary lengths to achieve quality, probably more than a porcelain doll, in which the pouring appears to be a much simpler task.. so perhaps it is more difficult to caste resin than porcelain? for toy-like durability...or longevity.. what are your thoughts?

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 3 місяці тому

      Hi! Thank you❤️ well I didn’t try cast porcelain dolls, so I can’t tell you if it’s harder. When I chose resin I honestly thought it’s easier that it turned out to be:) so I definitely think that there’re pitfalls in porcelain casting also.. and it will take time to master the skills.

  • @dabee2000
    @dabee2000 3 місяці тому

    Could you please explain how you make the cast hollow!!! I don't really get it if it goes in pressure pot for 40 min it'll be completely solid right!! Do you pour our some of the rasin after it cured a little like porcelain casting or is it the way you make the mold!! I would love to have some info in it.. If you would please 😊

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 3 місяці тому

      Hi! If you want to make the parts hollow right after the casting, you need to make the molds with the ‘pipes’, the silicone can bend so it is possible to take the detail out. But I usually just drill the details like legs and hands. This resin can’t be casted like porcelain, this materials are very different..

      Hi! Task 3 is stronger after curing (it’s a ‘professional’ smooth-on series), but a bit translucent, and I really like that it’s curing time is ~20 min. It also differs with 305 by weight and the results after adding tints.

    • @katesamostudio
      @katesamostudio 6 місяців тому

      I open and spray it a bit) I actually never have the problem ejecting the detail itself, only the excess material sometimes sticks to the silicone (I guess because it doesn't have the smooth surface). I afraid to use any powder or liquid release because I don't want to lose the detail surface texture..

    I’m confused in how to make this. For example if I’m making a mold of my doll’s limbs like arms or legs etc. how do you make sure that it’s hollowed like this? Did you let the silicone sipped inside or did you plug the hole with plasticine? I can’t see the actual positioning of them before you pour the silicone on it.

    • @katesamostudio
