Austin seems like a lovely guy to me. He is introverted and shy and that's why people are being rude. A lot of shy people, myself included, put a lot of energy into appearing 'normal' and extroverted in social settings just to mask the terror we feel. It means that sometimes we can overcompesate. We end up making a little too much eye contact or concentrating on making our voice relaxed and it comes across as inauthentic but the only reason we do it is because we are worried that we're not enough or that we are to weird to fit in. If yoy pay close attenrion to Austin's body language you can see that he is anxious in so many interviews. Check out Jimmy Fallon where he is teying to mask a full on panic attack, notice his jaw clenching, trying to take these deep breaths, the agitated hands, but it's all so subtle that unless you knew the signs you would have no clue what was going on underneath. Concerning his voice, people really dont understand the level of prep he went to for Elvis, he lived in that voice for 3 years so it took time to walk it off. He's already done a vastly different voical performance for DUNE 2, he's capable of changing his voice drastically and all people change the way the speak in different environments. Ariana Grande has a brand new speaking voice every decade. Christian Bale changes his voice every interview run. If think we have to give acrobat a pass on this because it's part of their craft, they are shapeshifters. I think it's hard for anyone to get their head around the fact that someone who is a good looking and talented as Austin Butler, could also be shy and insecure in himself, so lots of people just assume he's full of himself, but mental health disorders don't discriminate, anyone can suffer with self doubt and low self esteem. The guy has ben through so much trauma in the last decade with his mother's illness, then becoming her primary carer and having to administer her medication, her passing away when he was just 23 and, literally a week after her funeral he had to fly to another country alone and start filming hisnew show (The Shanara Chronicles.) Austin mentioned that he used to come home from set and cry himself to sleep every night. Navigating the upswing of his career just after the most devastating event in his life must have been so disorienting and it's hard thing for anyone else to relate to. I lost my parent at a young age too so I can relate to that strongly but the fame aspect is something that few will understand. Butler is a phenomenonal actor, just the fact that he does this kind of obsessive preparation shows that he is someone who cares very deeply about everything he does. Noone who goes to that level is going to be a 'normal' person but the way he speaks about his mother and pushing through the shyness to make her laugh seems to be at the core of his being. He's acting and performing to honor her memory and to make her proud of him and the way he trests other people is also a way of honoring her too. He seems to be a genuinely, humble and good person but I think that society is so cynical that somenpeople dont want to accept it.
