Art Tatum Someone to Watch Over Me
Barry Harris said “Art Tatum was too much for all of us.” ❤
Amazing
The math it takes to do that ....
Okay , now I'm buying a piano . To heck with a keyboard ...
I think he played for, and appealed to, two audiences.. Those who were mesmerised by his showmanship and those who were blown away by his musicianship. He was a good friend of Billie Holiday who was similar in that musically she was a genius, but most people only paid attention to the scandal and side-show aspect of her life. What sets an artist like Tatum apart is not his technical ability (which is off the charts) and his expansive understanding of melody and rhythm, but his ability to use those tools to be truly creative. To synthesise what has gone before to create something original and to change the direction of the music. Same with Billie.

THAT PERSON IS A ROBOT NOT A HUMAN OH MY GOD!
"If he starts playing classical music, we're all in trouble." --- Rachmaninoff
Alguien de 2024?
Obviously that's AI.
Such a flawless execution!
There are really good musicians whose career doesn't contain as much information as Art just played in one song
Tearfully amazing! This man was an absolute gift!!
He really is the final boss. The man that struck fear into the heart of Peterson..

I heard Art Tatum for the first time in Philadelphia, PA at a lounge. Tatum had bad eyesight and had someone take him to the piano. What a talent. Two weeks later he passed. Much later I met a Jazz pianist and spoke about Tatum. He got so excited. He said he was a Pianist's pianist. That after a gig all the musicians used to hang out in a place in, I think in the Village in New York and all would get up to play and then would wait for Tatum to play. He had a lot of Tatum's recordings he recorded himself. Ah, those were the days. Miss them. Was glad to find this channel.
Oh my god. That's incredible. Wish I had been there.
😮👍 Clearly, Peterson had TWO (amazing) brains!!😅
wtf
The orginal "All I need is one mic" 🤦♂
Google Translate. Miles Davis said that Art was his favorite pianist. Art learned to play by ear. His parents had a lot of records of the piano duo, but Art didn't know it was a duo. He played like a duo.
Of course his technique enabled him to play in every speed you can imagine. But what really kills me is the rhythm. There is not such a blue note besides him
Distorted sound, anyone??
I was looking at memorium videos as I am obsessed with dates of when famous people die and the Art Tatum entry pop up for 1956. They way his playing is described made me come here to see him in action. Nothing prepared me for this. Truly astounding musician.
Watching “Everwood” keeps driving me back to GREAT musical artists! WOW!
1:11 -1:13 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I can now see where Charles Schultz's got his style.
Tatum's technique overshadows his harmonic prowess, one of a kind.
Someone once said I sounded like Tatum. I said Art. They said no, O'Neal.😂
And my next song is the "pabst blue ribbon swing"😅
Technically absolutely stunning, but the soul, depth and warmth is even more amazing.
It sounds like someone played a very complicated piece very slow to ensure precision, then sped it up 10x faster. Art Tatum is that guy that no professional pianist ever wants to challenge.
Fine stuff
amazing !
❤❤❤
Too many notes too often
Executar uma música, principalmente no piano é nos envolver com sons agradáveis e que nos traz paz. Esses sons vindo desse piano, sinceramente me irritam.
Martha Davis The female equivalent of Tatum
I like the way he threw in two bars of My Old Kentucky Home at 3:00.
Art Tatum the best to ever grace the piano.
😳
It took me a whole life to hear that sound from Tatum and I can quite say I’m close distinguishing it from the most important finding in jazz piano that can never be replicated no matter how much the human brain has evolved today ! Classifying it as a. Mystery of piano mastery ! Cold case
I’m a deep admirer and appreciative fan TSM- but if you compare this to the clips from him from 62 And earlier-In my opinion he just seems fatigued. It’s a shame how hard - often such a brilliant man had to work just to feed his family. Thanks TSM. ❤
wow.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 Bad ass!
Horowitz would secretly go to his gigs when he was in town, sit quietly in the back. One of the worlds greatest piano players ever and blind as a bat...
Jesus!
C'est là que tu dis faut encore travailler le piano pour arriver à ça cheville looll...une pure merveille de sensibilité et de plaisir à écouter !!👍💖🤪🌲😎
My favorite piano players: 1st is Oscar, 2nd is Peterson. All the others have only two hands.
