Haematology Morphology - Granulocyte precursors
The earliest identifiable granulocyte precursor in the myeloid series is the myeloblast, which gives rise sequentially to the promyelocyte, myelocyte, metamyelocyte, band form and finally the mature segmented neutrophil, eosinophil or basophil.
Exploring Haematology Morphology - White blood cells (Leukocytes) introduction
Evaluation of the distribution and morphology of white blood cells is one of the most valuable procedures used in examination of the blood. White blood cells, or leukocytes, are classified either as polymorphonuclear leukocytes (polymorphonuclear granulocytes, polymorphs or granulocytes) or as mononuclear cells (lymphocytes and monocytes).
Haematology Morphology - Case 3
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited disorder of haemoglobin, characterised by formation of long chains of haemoglobin (HbS) when deoxygenated within capillary beds, resulting in sickle-shaped red blood cells, progressive multiorgan damage, and increased mortality.
Haematology Morphology - Case 2

Precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is a haematologic malignancy resulting from clonal proliferation of abnormal B-cell precursors (B-lymphoblasts) in bone marrow (BM). Most B-ALL cases are diagnosed in young children, although it can occur at any age. ALL, composed of approximately 85% B-ALL and 15% T-cell ALL (T-ALL), is the most common malignancy in children, accounting for...
Making a blood film
Peripheral blood film is a basic and a highly informative haematological tool. The examination of a good quality blood film is invaluable to the haematology practice.
Haematology Morphology - Red Blood Cells Part 5 - Bite and Blister cells
Bite cells are RBC with peripheral single or multiple arcuate defects (bites) caused by the removal of Heinz bodies by the spleen and are a feature of oxidant haemolysis. When the red cell membrane around the bite repairs, a blister-like structure forms, hence the term blister cell.
Haematology Morphology - Case 1
A 5 year old boy presented in ED with petechial rash and bruising. Low Hb and platelet count.
Haematology Morphology - Red Blood Cells Part 4 - Sickle cells
Sickle cells are red cells that become crescent or sickle-shaped with pointed ends as a result of polymerisation of HbS, which is due to the replacement of glutamic acid with valine at the sixth position on the beta chain. The presence of sickle cells is a characteristic feature of sickle cell disease which includes HbSS, HbSC and sickle cell/beta thalassaemia.
Red Blood Cell Under the Microscope 400X and 1000X - Part 3 RBC Agglutination
Red blood cell agglutination in south-east asian ovalocytosis. Red blood cell clumping and some stomatocytes seen in a diluted blood drop. Microscope magnification 400X and 1000X
Haematology Morphology - Red Blood Cells Part 3 - Target cells
Target cells are thin cells with an increased surface area to volume ratio that have an area of increased staining which appears in the middle of the area of central pallor. They are associated with liver disease, thalassaemia, hyposplenism and some haemoglobinopathies.
Red Blood Cells Under the Microscope 1000X - Part 2 Teardrops and Target Cells
Identification of morphological abnormal red blood cells is useful in the diagnostic work-up. Target cells are associated with thalassaemia, liver disease and hyposplenism. Teardrops are found in myelofibrosis and thalassaemia. Mcroscope magnification 1000X.
Haematology Morphology - Red Blood Cells Part 2 - Macrocytes
Macrocytes are enlarged red cells with a diameter greater than 8.5um (MCV more than 100fL). Macrocytes are found in megaloblastic anaemia, liver disease and alcoholism.

Are you sure that this is 400x and 1000x? Mine does only 200x with oil, but the blood cells are bigger than in your video and the first one you said would be 400x looks like mine with 20x. The eye pieces can do 10x so they can get to 1000x, but the camera piece can only do 2x.

1:42 Why is the white blood cell stationary and the red blood cells moving ? If the RBC are moving because of the force imparted to them by placing the sample on the slide, then that force should have affected the WBC as well yet it didn't. Seems to me that the WBC is stationary because it is not affected by the surrounding forces electrical / magnetic / other but the RBCs are affected. This is an important clue.
