Nice easy surf.
Peeps: check out KC Kayak or Navarre for much more detailed instructions.
Worst rudder replacement tutorial I've seen.
What did you mean by "offset?" Thanks!
What I mean is. Have your kayak about 45 degrees offset from the cart so you can pivot the kayak on the nose to set on top of the cart.
Thank you for this review. It definitely appears that the Sportsman is more stable than the Salty, and given that I'll be using it for inshore/onshore, that's the most important thing for me. Puzzling that the "Salty" is less stable, given that salt water is more dangerous. Great comparison, thanks again!
I didn't know that you catch the fish, then pick it up and put it into the net, that's cool.
what size is that net?
@@expomm Extended Length: 32.5 inch Collapsed Length: 15.8 inch Net width: 11 inch
@ thank you!,
I did the exact same thing
thanks...vid is exactly what I needed to see to replace my broken rudder arm.
nice video, I bought this rod because of your video
Awesome! Hope you enjoy!
Great job comparing the them.
I need to replace the black cord as mine is starting to fray. Wish there was more instructions here on how to exactly run the cable through.
I actually appreciated this video. I’m looking at progressing to a pedal drive have a bonafide rs and I think I like that stability the sportsman has. Thank you man
Dumb...
excellent video!
Yoo sweet intro wayyyy better than before dude this is sick hopefully you come back to makin content!
I am definitely trying too! Thanks for the comment
link please?
a.co/d/38XPFi5 Thanks for the comment hopefully this helps! If it doesn’t just search ugly stick GX2 and it should pop up
Thanks so much just copped it!@@chrisrippz
I bought a switchblade to help with that issue
I have a 2022 sportsman 106 pdl model and I have a problem with my rudder going up and down. It doesn't matter whether up or down position, I can't get it work. does the rope cord has go around the Pulley like a serpent belt on the car?
Hey thanks for the response! I wouldn’t say it works like a serpentine belt because the pulley doesn’t adjust to allow the cord on you have to feed the cord on either side of the pulley and pull it tight please refer to 2:30 on the video. When you get your cord around both sides and feed it through the outside of the of the kayak pull both sides of the cord tight and before you screw the anchor bolts down to hold the cord in place try moving the lever while keeping pressure on the cords with your hands. Hopefully that will help!
@@chrisrippz I have finally figured it out this morning. Didn't realized that the rope had came off the pulley. Thanks for your help and your video.
@@OutKastFishermanPersonal Great! Glad you were able to figure it out
how does it handle the salt water?
Hey thanks for the comment! I’ve had it for over a year now and no issues. I will say I rinse all my gear after being in the salt water.
What do you suggest if rudder on 120 PDL came from Old Town and the bolt is so tight or cross threaded that you can't get it off?!
Hey thanks for your comment! There are a couple ways you can try, first you can use penetrating oil and try and tighten the bolt just to get movement and then loosen it. if that isn't working you can use a center punch and punch the bolt on the nut side and then drill the bolt out that way. Just use the same diameter drill bit as the bolt so you don't damage the plastic housing. Hopefully this helps.
Here's a recap without even watching the video: The Salty is a nimble fast moving boat, and the Sportsman 120 is a barge that's more stable. There you go.
Thanks for watching the video.
So does the paracord need to be tight?I have the old town predator. When I go to engage my rudder it doesn’t want to come down but the rope is a loose. Then when I go to bring it up the same thing happens. It’s like you have to be really strong to pull the rope rudder to get it to come down. Most of the time I just manually do it before I launch. Then move it back up when I go to take it out. If someone can tell me what to do I would appreciate it. It’s annoying because sometimes I forget it and I’ll be ten minutes into going out then I’ll remember the rudder is still up. I also have the Minn kota motor so I have to cut it off raise the motor then get out a put the rudder down.
Yes I had the cord pretty tight I also knotted it on rudder to catch the rudder on the way up and down. Looking back now paracord wouldn’t be my first choice to replace the cable because of the difficulty moving it up and down. But I will eventually replace it when it stops working.
My cords came off, on the inside which is left and right tubes ,where the cords come out of and head to pulley, is left/right standing behind kayak or to the side of it?
Hey thanks for the response! Unfortunately I don’t remember but I would temporarily install it and test it. Hopefully that helps.
l finally got it figured out@@chrisrippz
Are the pdls the exact same like can you interchange the 2?
No the Sportsman has a deeper storage compartment than the salty does so they would latch in
Great cart. It would be better if Wilderness Systems had an option to upgrade to stainless steel hardware.
I had the chance to use my buddies salty love it went to go get one all I could get in town was a sportsman 4 days later. I can say the salty has a edge in speed and sharp turning but is very tippy feeling vs my sportsman. The sportsman is a top notch boat and would recommend it over a salty the very small loss of speed and quicker turning doesn't come close to the difference is stability. Both boats cruise effortlessly around 2.5 to 4 mph. Both can turn very sharply both can stop and reverse on a dime.
What kind of fasteners do they use on the cable runners that connect to the cable to hold it togethe rudder
It was a Phillips screw that the cable wrapped around
Thanks
No problem hope it helped you out
The salty is actually much faster
Yeah It is
yes dimessions and fittins you used please also have you found it sags in the middel at all
Ive seen guys putting 3-5 rods into the sportsman under storage area.
What size is the bolt?
Not sure which bolt you are referring too? I have a list of tools needed in the beginning of the video 0:33
Looks like the tires clear but how much room is there between the tires and kayak?
You don’t have much room I have less than an inch on either side. You can hear is rub whenever your going over unleveled areas but it still works.
How is the rack holding up? I tried making a kayak cart with PVC......forget about it
The rack is still holding very nicely I use it to store my kayaks on the side of the house and when I’m not using them and I haven’t had any issues with it
How did you get the dome cap off the rudder lift lever?
You can use a flat head to pry the cap off that worked best for me
Thank you! (I was worried about cracking it - but good to know that is what you did)
Bought a salty. Love love it
Congratulations 🎉
Clean your fingernails!
Thanks bud!! Problem solved!
Hi, at 1:09 you advise putting a knot... and held up cord w/rudder?? Where does knot go? I know there was a knot but forgot placement
1:15 you place your knot between the two holes on the Rudder so it catches either way you pull the rope
@@chrisrippz 😮 lol, got it ty! I am installing a rudder from Navarre, so I have to look at both vids, yours mostly ..the deployment system is same and I found your vid immensely helpful especially the placement of the pulley system which would have been a horror until I found instructions on internet. Glad I found your vid immediately. I did do the unthinkable though...I had attached a wire to the cord and forgot secure it once I ran cord thru to disengage rudder, I messed around with pulley to make sure I had it in right position and realized I pulled the wire thru that its bitsy hole😢. 1/2 later with flashlight I realized all was not lost since it was wire & kinked at end, luckily it stopped before the worst happened. Ty again
Very good video ! That made my decision much easier. I will go with the Sportsman pdl120 ! Thanks !
Thanks for the reply! I’m glad a could make your decision easier.
Looks like you flipped because you hit ground with the pedals, is that right? I think you need to put up closer and paddle/surf in
Hey thanks for the response and My pedals were unlocked and I was in waist deep water when I got up. The waves actually grabbed my Rudder and pushed my backend sideways.
@@chrisrippz glad your safe. Still nervous to go in open water. Did surf kayaking as a kid and that was fun, I want to try again when the weather warms up. Try putting up the rudder and pedals next time. Should make you a lot safer. I have made my own mistakes so I am far from perfect.
@@maloso81 thanks for the advice and I’ve stopped going out on the beach side and stick to inland fishing gear to expensive to keep losing
It kills me seeing videoes of people piviting their kyaks on the front keel instead of on the back where there is a skid plate for protection.I see guys do this frequently ,among other bad habits like coming into ramps bow first and then wonder why they need keel quards or thier keels look like they were drug behind truck on keel.
Thanks for the input! Hopefully you are able to take so positive notes from the video.
@@chrisrippz absolutely man.And hey it's not just you.The guy on the wilderness systems official video for the cart was doing the same thing.Good to see someone who does not take a constructive comment personally and reply in a negative manner.Much respect.Enjoy our sport and stay safe.
Well because most Kayakers have a keel protector on them!! Not just for loading but landing, no worry Son you will learn !!!
@@chrisrippz Always someone knows all Thanks for the video !
Nice video, it's the best way to load a kayak. I've loaded my autopilot 120 onto my Jetta Sportwagen a million times, scratched the heck out of the side of my roof, tools not jewels.... One thing I've learned is to unload it onto dirt/grass so it doesn't slide out. If i'm in a parking lot, take out your floor mat, will help prevent it from sliding.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks for the advice I will try the floor mat next time I go out
Thank you for the video! That helps with my decision! Sportsman pdl is what I’ll be going with, stability is my reason. I plan to fish a lot on it. Had an auto pilot 136 sold it because it was too heavy….
Awesome glad to hear I could help you out! It’s a great kayak to fish with I love it
This is awesome man…I would love the dimensions
I see a board on back of seat on Sportsman??
Yes I use that as a seat riser so it’s easier to stand up and fish
