I believe it’s 24 hrs but what they served varied depending on what they had available. We don’t eat pork either so watch out for tiny pieces of pork in different dishes for flavouring. We found pork/bacon in some rice and bean dishes at the buffet. If in doubt try to asking one of the workers. When we went to an a la carte restaurant we always told the server what our restrictions were. They were very good at letting us know what our options were.

It may depend on who you fly/book with. We went with Sunwing and we were allowed 4 per week. The 4th booking may have been a perk exclusive to Sunwing customers. I think normally it’s 3 per week.

Hi Jenny, the Wifi is free and accessible throughout the resort. You may find that you need to sign back in a few times during the day. I had to do that but I never had a problem accessing it. Initially you are given 7 hours of actual internet use. If you use that up you can go back to the reception desk and they can reload another 7 hours for you. I hope the information helps. 🙂

@Terry Thomas I was told that too. We had proof of our health insurance with us but we were not asked for it. It’s better to have it and not need it than take the chance and potentially be denied entrance. Have a fantastic trip! Keep your eyes open for Enrique the GM. If you need anything, ask for him. He’s very approachable and wants to help the guests have a great vacation.

@Terry Thomas As long as it’s travel insurance and not just your Ontario health card. You may have travel insurance already with a credit card.. We have that and I just called the credit card company and told them I needed something from them stating I had travel medical insurance. They emailed me a letter confirming my coverage. If you have a preference for a certain type of alcohol you may want to pick up a bottle in the duty free shop before you head to Cuba. We were there in February and there wasn’t any vodka. We don’t drink much vodka so that didn’t bother us. They did have lots of rum, gin and wine. Of course that could all change week to week. If you really like coffee you may want to bring some instant coffee with you. I always take about 6 extra plastic hangers with me. Take extra sunscreen as the closest place to get some is about 40 minutes away. Let me know if you have more questions 😃

Hi Terry, the only place I know of is at the duty free shop at the airport upon departure. There is the Plaza Faro Paredón that’s down at the lighthouse. I don’t know what shops they have there. Perhaps a staff member could have some suggestions.

we don’t use a lot of condiments so I’m not really sure. There was always butter for toast at breakfast which was the only time I would have looked for it. Cuba does allow you to bring food into the country so could always bring some condiments with you. We brought a bottle of hot sauce and some peanut butter but never needed either.

Hi Clara, I have a question. I’ve been hearing people say that you have to bring adaptors to charge cell phones etc. is this true ?

@Terry Thomas Hi Terry, I guess it depends on where you are from. We are from Canada and did not need any adapters for charging our cellphone and iPad. We are 120V in Canada.

The food in the buffet was good. The selection was not huge but tasty. Some people brought some food with them from home….instant coffee, peanut butter, condiments, cookies, instant soups, snacks. We brought hot sauce and peanut butter but didn’t end up using it. The two things I would take next time would be instant coffee and snacks. I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer them. 🙂

Thank you for watching and commenting! We tipped with Canadian Loonies and Toonies and five dollar bills. At their banks they can only exchange paper bills but not coins. The bills must be in good shape without any rips or tears. The staff were always happy to exchange coins for bills. Most people we saw tipped with Canadian money but we did see the odd American money tip. If you are Canadian I would recommend tipping with Canadian money, that way you are saving the exchange costs and perhaps those savings could then be used for tipping.

Thank you for watching and commenting! We were there Feb 14-21 and at that point they did not have a store. I don’t know if that has since changed. Apparently the closest store is at least 40 minutes away by taxi so you will want to make sure you have what you need. I took extra sunscreen, bug spray and pain reliever, cold and flu meds, bandaids, antibiotic cream etc. I tried to anticipate anything I might need. I even took a roll of toilet paper just in case. 🙂 If you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer them.

Bonjour Lise. Thank you for watching and commenting and your kind words. This was our first trip to Cuba and we went with realistic expectations knowing that standards in Cuba are different than elsewhere in the Caribbean and Mexico. The food was tasty although the selection was limited. We took peanut butter and hot sauce but never used it. Some of the items I saw other people had brought were different condiments, instant coffee, tea bags, instant soups and snacks like potato chips, cookies etc. The Cubans seem to be very resourceful people. For example they ran out of the ingredients to make a piña colada so the bartender improvised by substituting fruit cocktail to make a drink. It was delicious! If you are down at the Allure beach bar look for Lazaro…he was amazing. They had vodka only one day but they had plenty of rum, gin, whiskey, red, white, rose wine and beer. If you want to make dinner reservations you will need to get to the spot early…maybe even by 7:30. You can make reservations for that night and the following night. It’s a rather slow process as it’s all done by one person and on paper not a computer. The internet is decent and it even works on the beach. The only complaint I would have is that you have to login fairly frequently. But it works. You will be given a slip of paper with the username and password and that will give you 7 hours of internet access. If you use that up you can go to the lobby and ask them to add more time. It is free. If you are planning to spend some time at the beach ask one of the beach attendants to suggest the best place to sit. They will point out the best places to enter the water as some areas are a bit rocky. They will get your lounge chairs and a small table set up for you. They are very helpful. At low tide be sure to walk to the right to the edge of the next property where you will find some sea creatures amongst the rocks and remaining water. I hope these tips help. Hi Leon. Thank you for watching and commenting. There was always wind…from a mild breeze to windy. We found the closer you sat to the beach the windier it was. We sat under the long palapas, which were further from the beach vs under the umbrella shape palapas. We found the breeze/wind gave us a break from the heat. We didn’t upgrade to the club section but we did talk to some who had. They said it was worth it. The Club rooms are closest to the beach, they have their own bar and restaurant and their own pool. In my opinion it’s not worth the upgrade for the additional cost.

There wasn’t a huge selection but what was there was quite good. We took peanut butter and hot sauce with us but didn’t end up using either. I did see a lot of people with their own peanut butter. The coffee in the buffet is not that great, however the coffee in the lobby was good. Some people brought their own instant coffee and tea bags. If you want to book any a la cartes be sure to get in line early maybe even 7:30-8:00. Keep an eye out for any line forming…it was different each day. We were able to book for that day and the following.

We were there February 14-21 and we were told the occupancy rate was 38%. We try to record our videos early in the morning, around 8 am in order to respect other guests.

This was our first time in Cuba. It was hard not to compare it to Mexico, where we usually vacation., where the food is amazing and the gardens very lush.

How was the food overall? I know it's always different in Cuba than other countries but recently I've heard there was barely anything in some resorts.

We were at the resort Feb 14-21 and we didn’t have any issues with the food. Overall I was happy with it. We always tried to be at the buffet a few minutes before it opened, even then there was always a bit of a lineup to get in. Going early would be one way to make sure you have more selection. Some people brought some food from home for example, peanut butter, condiments, instant coffee, instant soups, cookies, chips, snacks etc. There was always plenty of bread and fruit. We stayed at the RIU Palace Mexico, but spent a lot of time wandering through the other RIU properties. RIU Yucatan was one of our favourites! Loved the wildlife!
