Isn't there an old Disney movie called " The Cat from Outer Space"...1960s? I remember seeing it when I was maybe 8 years old. Sitting here with my cat, Captain Sebastian...

Missie and I saw it on Monday. I agree with a lot of what you said too. It was a beautiful film. The cinematography was gorgeous. And I agree it should've been updated a little. The slow pacing was tough for me. I wasn't particularly scared either. It was almost boring.

the pacing wasn't a problem with me, but I just need more of a pay off at the end I think. Also, a lot of it was one note.

Great episode! You really could make an entire podcast on this topic alone. There’s soooo many. You guys didn’t bring up “Shameless” probably because it was such an obvious choice - but I could only get through one season of that show. Credit to the acting because it was so believable that they were so awful. 😂 William H Macy is one of the greats and he plays an alcoholic and makes you hate him in this. Superb but also…tough watch.

  • @RachelSantiago-q3e

Josh Hartnett played the part of the dad and the maniacal killer roles superbly! But… the movie is extremely slow paced for the first hour, with no character development except for Harnett’s. It’s completely predictable, and just cringey all around. And if you’re not aware of who played the role of Lady Raven, it was M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter. I was looking at the credits when I noticed it. The movie is labeled as a horror film, but it is leaning more towards being a thriller than horror. Zero jump scares, it goes back and forth between the two main characters repeatedly to the point where it gets annoying because you want to see the action or a scare, but it never gets to that point. The trailer was ten times better than the movie itself. There’s a part of the movie that I can’t say enough about that I thought was so ridiculously cheesy, because I don’t want to give away the spoilers to those people who haven’t watched it yet. But it’s 🤣🙄 Let me just say that I watched MaXXXine the day after and I enjoyed that movie much more. Especially one particular scene at the ending.

Great episode! I would also add the car in "Deathproof" to the vehicles mentioned. I love that Ghostship's opening sequence was discussed as well, because that was a moment you didn't expect. Masterfully done!

I heard the " Beans" poem a little different .." Beans, beans , good for your heart, the more you eat the more you fart...the more you fart, the better you feel, so eat your beans at every meal"...I heard this in the late '60s in first grade. Way older than the Gunslinger novels. I worked at Asbury College in the '80s, and The Real Ghostbusters and Robotech( cartoons, comics and books) were really popular among the students.

  • @scottthomas3792

Nitrate based film is more or less transparent gunpowder. Something was added to it that reduced flammability, but that evaporated out. It rotted with age. The Kentucky Theater showed the 1922 " Nosferatu", and went all out with it! Decorated the theater, a professional organist to provide the soundtrack , people in costume...it was great. The Brain That Wouldn't Die! Jan in the pan! Mystery Science Theater 3000 kept that movie alive. Years ago, I saw a silent movie that was sort of like a 1920s version of " Jurassic Park"....the Lost World"? I saw part of a silent science fiction movie...a crew went to Mars in a ship that looked like a biplane submarine. Mars was supposed to be a utopia? It's been a while. Spaceballs is a comfort movie....

Breaks down into four parts, undetectable by x-ray, ideal for quick, discreet interventions. A word on firepower. Titanium recharger, three thousand round clip with bursts of three to three hundred, and with the Replay button - another Zorg invention - it's even easier. One shot...And Replay sends every following shot to the same location! And to finish the job, all Zorg oldies but goldies: rocket launcher, arrow launcher, with exploding or poisonous gas heads, our famous net launcher, the always efficient flamethrower...My favorite. It wasn't too unusual back in the day to plug up overpressure valves in steamships to get more pressure out of the boilers, and therefore more power. ..downside is they occasionally went boom... probably when one went boom, it probably sent flying chunks into adjacent boilers... The Hopkinsville Goblins would make a good movie....Kentucky doesn't really have any cryptids...gotta make something of the ones we have.

I remember bogarting the tv remote at my grandparent’s house and waiting for my favorite music videos to come on either vh1 or MTV. 😅 You might wait several hours just to see Joe Elliot in his ripped up jeans, belting out “Do you take sugar? I always thought Darth Vader''s helmet and clothing was an environment suit of some kind...like the white Imperial Storm troopers' armor. Same for Predator...not really a mask, but part of the suit or at least helmet. I knew about Guy Fawkes prior to " V for Vendetta" by accident, almost. I worked at Asbury College with a British exchange student in the '80s, and he brought it up... The Lando Calrissian books by L.Neil Smith? I read one of them...

While there's always interest in celebs, they do get alllll the public interviews and the directors, producers and writers really don't get all the recognition they should. Other than Star Trek, I haven't seen any graduation films....lotta teen films in the '70s and '80s, but not any centered around graduation specifically. High school suckage levels vary a lot, for many different reasons. I went to Kentucky and Florida high schools, and Florida pegged the suckage meter. The only bright spots at the Florida high school was a physics and science fiction class. The rest was just an overflowing septic tank...

Another woman was worried if Ripley was going to go back for the cat. Audience participation can be funny...

The last two Ghostbusters ( Afterlife and Frozen Empire) are just fun...cars should have a gunners seat like the Ecto-1. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call wasn't bad...I would have done it slightly different. I would have had it where they were opening a franchise in another city ( like Chicago), and use actual Chicago ghost legends. I wouldn't have had the " male Janine" as rock stupid, but as a small town/rural guy in the big city for the first time...just out of place. There was a lice outbreak when I was in elementary school....the school sent home a milk carton of rank smelling shampoo to use...I never had them, though. A guy I went to high school with was one of these " too much information" types, and wound up getting crabs.... earning the nickname " King Crab".. Poohniverse? An evil Tinkerbell? Years ago, when office parties involved booze, a woman came dressed as Tinkerbell, got ralphing drunk, and was put on the bus with her address on a sign around her neck...by people only slightly less drunk than her. I called her Tinkerbell from Hell ....
