    The deer and rabbits demolished my Coneflowers and black-eyed, susans. The deer also demolished a verbena, honey suckle and a trumpet vine. It was still summer, we had no drought, no fires and plenty of food all around. They also ate some of my clematis vines. As far as I'm concerned nothing is really deer and rabbit "proof".

    definitely going with the Green House. I want an esticically pleasing structure. I wish it was larger. I will have to look into a custom build perhaps using the Costco as a model. Do you have any other design suggestions regarding functionality (shelving/tables/storage)?

      Hi, The Costco Greenhouse comes with two shelves but I added stackable plastic shelves from Harbor Freight. If you have the ability to do a custom build, you definitely should. I love my greenhouse, but it sure does fill up quickly. I wish it was bigger!!

But looking better, I think it has not completely died. This was the last Mother’s Day’s gift from my husband before he died this was 2007. Don’t know what to do for its survival. Help please 😢

    My deer have eaten all the buds and younger leaves of my echinacea and black eyed susan. The rabbits like to eat the echinacea leaves as well as yarrow leaves. One of them (not sure if it is deer or rabbits but likely rabbits) have eaten all the leaves from my alliums down to the ground so I’ve lost several. Unfortunately deer and rabbits sometimes just adapt and something that is typically resistant is not the case for some areas like mine. The one thing they always seem to leave alone are anything in the mint family, foxgloves and peonies.

      @uptosomething6271 8 днів тому

      I am so sorry that they ate your plants! Yes, these are all "resistant" but I guess if there is no other choices they will eat what they can find. Foxgloves can be dangerous to wild life and humans if ingested. I am glad they didn't eat those!!

    If you live in the area with snakes problem then Costco greenhouse might become their resting or nesting place. They can get in through vents at night. The last thing you want to see in your greenhouse is a snake. The Amazon type hoop house is a nonsense. Too cold in winter and too hot and humid in Summer. I had one before with zero success despite being an avid gardener with years of experience.

    You could staple or screw a frame of window screen to keep the misquotes out of your auto window. If the arm is in the way, you could make a screen box to go up around it.

      @uptosomething6271 I don't have one. I have seen them. Since I posted that I've seen some UA-cam videos where people complain about a few things with them. I think they are still basically satisfied with them but they are not perfect. Problems I've seen are; clips that hold the panels on fail. They screw them to the frame. Panels don't hold up to the weather and sun. Most say about 4 yrs. It probably depends where you live. Door doesn't slid easy.

    Hello. From north georgia...starting most of these this weekend.. I hope! Thank you!. Im wondering which seeds I could sow in the laye fall and hope to see them as spring advances...

    • @uptosomething6271
      @uptosomething6271 18 днів тому

      Hello! That’s exciting!! Late fall is a great time for sowing seeds, especially those that benefit from the natural cold stratification process over winter. Here are a few suggestions of seeds you could sow now and expect to see germinating as spring advances: Perennials and Wildflowers: Many perennials need a cold period to germinate, so they’re perfect for late fall sowing. Consider planting: Coneflowers (Echinacea),Black-Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia), Columbines (Aquilegia), Milkweed (Asclepias) for pollinators. Herbs: Parsley and dill. Vegetables: If you’re thinking about vegetables, leafy greens like spinach can sometimes overwinter and give you an early spring crop. Wishing you a successful and enjoyable planting season! Let me know how it goes. 😊

    New Subscriber! Just found your channel. I have two hydrangea that were here when I moved here 22 years ago. One is the Mophead type, that the kind my Mom had, I love it. The other is that odd lacy kind. I don't really like the second one and I may try to dig it out. Some blackberry vines came up in them when I was healing from a car accident. So, digging one out might be the only way to get rid of the blackberries vines. Thank you!❤😊

      Blackberry vines are hard to get rid of. We have used black berry brush killer twice a year every year for 7.5 years…the problem is the vines are coming from the rental house next door. None of the renters take care of the property. It is a very nice neighborhood with a bad place for a rental.

    When did you transplant them last year. Was it May when they started rooting, or did you wait awhile?

    • @uptosomething6271
      @uptosomething6271 19 днів тому

      Hi, Thanks so much! My cuttings are currently housed in my unheated hoop house. I typically transplant 1-year-old hydrangea cuttings into the ground in early spring after the last frost date in my area. This ensures the soil has warmed up enough for healthy root growth, and the plants have time to establish before the heat of summer. I definitely would not plant them in the ground right after rooting. I put them in bigger pots and enjoy them outside until the cold weather and then bring them in for the winter. What zone are you in? I think you could plant them out in late August or September if it is still warm in your area until October, but you would definitely have to offer some protection, like heavy mulch and maybe some burlap or a Plant Blanket.

    Do you heat your hoop house too? Also it looks like the ridge is leaking on your greenhouse. Have your husband install a ridge cap. They are like $20-30 at home depot and it just screws in to cover the joint at the ridge. I did the math on using solar and batteries for one of those heaters and its kind of expensive. Granted I have to have mine on high because Im heating a hoop house and the plastic walls (even with 2 layers of bubble wrap on them ) are terrible at holding heat once the sun goes down. The heater I have runs around 1200w so thats 1.2kwh per hour. If it has to run for 19hrs to stay above 60F in the greenhouse (as measured by my bluetooth thermometer) then thats 1.2x19 or 23kwh worth of battery just to run that little heater. Plus you cant run the batteries to below 20% if you have lithium iron phosphate batteries so that means you need almost 30kw worth of batteries to just run that little space heater. Then you need enough solar to charge 30kw worth of batteries in the limited winter solar daylight and that means you either need super high wattage panels or a ton of cheaper low wattage panels. I have 10.08kw worth of solar on my roof already so that part isnt so much of a problem for me but if you were just starting out and wanting to get enough solar panels you're looking at $20,000 just for the materials to get 10kw (which also may not be enough for you in NY since im in NC and get a little more sun than you do) worth of solar to charge the 30kw worth of batteries exclusively on solar. Oh and the batteries themselves are going to run you about $6k minimum for 2 outdoor rated 16kw batteries from ruixu. So me personally Im looking at things like black 55 gal water barrels for thermal mass, 2" foam board around the bottom 2ft, and maybe putting in my offset smoker to use a small fire for heat that wont cost THAT much to use. That or maybe a propane ventless heater... cause propane heaters also produce CO2 and water vapor so it will help the plants in that way too... but I either have to hook that propane heater up to my 500 gal tank or buy multiple 20-40gal tanks and refill those every few days to a week.

      Hi, I do not currently heat my hoop houses. I keep plants in there that are hardy for my zone. We have thought about heating one of the hoop houses to grow cold season veggies throughout the winter, but we have not done it yet. I will ask my husband about the ridge cap; that is great advice. Thanks so much!

    grrenhouse is only for starting plants not growing a garden . hoop house is for a garden Those policarbonit panels turn yellow after awhile . I know I wanted awnings over my guest shed house I built in 2008 and decided I needed awnings over the windows and door to keep some of the sun overout in the summer months but let it in during the winter . But now it is yellow and ugly . I paid good money for that crap and it started to turn yellow after only 4 years and now is totally yellow pee color . I am building a hoop house like Texas prpper built and his video is on youtube . Cattle panel fence 20 dollars for each panel but warning it is hard to roll up to transport . I used bungee cord and the help of store employees and put them in my truck to bring home . 4x4 's and some 2x4's and plastic in a roll . Hinges for door Watch his video it is a great source for building it easy . I got some done but rain and cold creeped into VA so now on hold I looked at rural king bill and it came out to less than 100 dollars for panels , plastic roll 100 ft roll and hinges and and latch . Wood at lowes was so far 53.87 . I already had the 4x4's for the bottom from my carport build years ago .They were stored inm the basement . I also picked up at lowes free a bunch of solid pallets and a whole bunch of wood that they trhough out that is used to hold bundles of wood together with metal straps . I took some of the metal straps just in case I needed them . I had used those same wood pieces a couple of years ago to build a huge wishing well 2 pallets for the roof and the wood bundle holders for the sides . I am cheap and anything free is great for me .

    The cover on the amazon hoop house will need changing after the first year, if you are prepared to do that you will be fine as long as you bury the excess 25cm which doubles the rigidity of the structure and is the key to withstanding high winds.

    You don't cut them back at all when you bring them inside before frost? I have several Sunpatiens in pots this year, and I was just going to move them into the basement. I had one white New Guinea but it never bloomed after the initial bloom when I purchased it. Several times I have had these things just suddenly wilt and die because of too much water/rain I think, so I was happy they did well this year. Do you cut them back in the spring before or after taking them back outside? Thank you.

      @@uptosomething6271Thank you. I listened again, and you did say you cut them back before you put them in your greenhouse. I will do this and put them near a NW window in the basement. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving.

    I haven't purchased the Costco greenhouse but I did purchase a hoop house from Amazon. I live in Oklahoma. My hoop house survived the Spring, which means here, tornado season. But. In the middle of summer we had a wind event that is called a straight line wind which crumpled the frame. We had used those screw-in anchors and that prevented the hoop house from blowing away, which is why it crumpled instead. We had to cut it apart to remove it. So... if you live in a high wind area, like the central plains, make sure you get one that can withstand the wind.

    I just installed one of these at my house and love it! And yes, I was excited when I saw the roof vent open by itself! Looking forward to many years of usage.

      Definitely! Keep an eye on your local store at the end of the spring season, sometimes they sell their last stock and/or the floor model at a deep discount. I saw a floor model on sale last year for $500! I was totally going to buy it, but someone beat me to it!
