    Good webinar but a play now from a wolf puppy is not predatory. I have extensive experience with high content wolfdogs, as do others who will tell you the same.

    We've got a really bad black bear problem in british columbia. They are starving and coming into town for food. Forest fires and horrible seasons for berries. I feel so awful for them. I wish I knew how to help these bears.

    Gos and roads, I live in Chitina Alaska on Hwy 10, this is a very busy place due to fishing and tourism. Vehicle traffic is almost constant in the summer. Last year there was a goshawk nest 250 meters off the Hwy, 600 meters north a nest of Redtails, in between a Great Horned Owl nest and within 200 meters of the Redtail nest was a Boreal Owl nest. All these birds are used to the traffic and after fledging I saw the redtails hunting every day and often saw the young as well as parent Goshawk. The GH Owl nest was also successful in fledging multiple young. We are at a high in the Snowshoe Hare cycle and there is bare ground that supports Arctic Ground Squirrels there are also lots of mice. They would sit in plain sight, make passes at my Dash hounds and were not real spooky. In Craig Alaska Bald Eagles nest right by the busy road, there is a USFS station there you could check in with if you think I'm a BS artist. I see Goshawks all winter, not sure if it's the adults or 1 adult, but they are here. Colorado Falconers have detected about 10 year cycles on Goshawk invasions there.

    I would save the world but mostly everyone is inconsiderate jerks that don't understand they are killing the place the live. BTW Aron Ralston is great but he kind of had it coming by not telling anyone where he was going. Still I think he's an amazing person.

    @noirkitten Why is he a superman? Because he failed to let anyone know where he'd be venturing in the back-country? Or because he was "lucky" enough to have to sever his own arm? Ralston is hardly a hero or a superman.

    While protection of our natural resources is a noble goal, Wilderness designation is but one way to do so. We have many options available to use today in our 'land-protection tool-kit'. Let's not confuse a tool (Wilderness designation) for the goal (protection of natural resources). Companion designations, such as National Recreation Areas, National Conservation Areas, National Scenic Areas, etc, are all acts of Congress (like Wilderness) and would require an act of Congress to reverse.

  • @danheckler
    @danheckler 13 років тому

    To date, not a single Congressionally designated Companion Area has been reversed, all while Wilderness advocates tout the weaknesses of such designations. These alternatives to Wilderness designation can be written locally, not in Washington, by people with 'boots-on-the-ground-knowledge' of the area. These alternatives can also be written on a case by case basis, depending on the parcel, to custom fit the protection deserved (i.e. non-motorized vs motorized areas).

  • @danheckler
    @danheckler 13 років тому

    Some lands that qualify as Wilderness can be designated as such, but adjacent lands that fall short of the Wilderness definition deserve protection too. That is why Companion Areas need to be explored. Companions can be written to be more recreation friendly than Wilderness. Recreation is not the enemy. Development and extractive industries are.

    well who could disagree? :) sucks that unfortunately, we are further and further pushed into 'crisis management', chasing after natural world disasters more and more, because we were not fiscally and humanely-minded enough to 'be preparded.' unfortunately it is our natural national treasures that will suffer along with most of us, as we struggle through world-changing issues/times/and mindsets. lol if only enough of us had the -time- to go visit our state parks even! let alone the gas-money...
