Exploring Parcel Fabric Maintenance Workflows
In this workshop, we explored the standard Record-Driven workflow associated with parcel maintenance in the Parcel Fabric. This workflow includes Merging parcels, splitting using a Metes and Bounds description, splitting a parcel using an Aliquot description, and combining workflows to build Subdivisions and Lots. We also integrated some quality control components that check for overlaps and gaps and update dimension labels. Click on the links below to review a particular topic.

Extracting Contours from Lidar - April 2023
Hi - I'm curious about how you trained the model to detect building footprints from black and white imagery. Do you have any guides or videos for how you did that?
Do you recommend using las files to convert to contours and hillshade over using the DEM's and using the focal stats tools and convert that to contours? Or is there really not much of a difference? I just recently got my lidar data and am struggling with putting contour data onto a server layer that I created by DEM>Focal Stats.
We have found similar results with both methods. This video was in response to a request from a client about the procedure for LiDAR.

Frank, on resetting panes. There is a plugin from Vanesch that can be found on the Esri community pages that lets you set up your own pane reset options. Looks like they might do something official for 3.4
Using "<bol>" ... "</bol>" wraps the actual text with <bol> and </bol> what the?
Here is a download link to a transcript: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/90yjqggk5sagaq0g0fxu5/2020-11-05-Simple-Labels.pdf?rlkey=wtjd22smz2f0k6bhkm59vnw1c&st=p8srtde6&dl=1 (This video was made before we could create transcripts)
And Sir Frank! my second question is regarding this video [CAD file to Parcel Fabric - December 2021], have watched it and practiced it. Mt concern was, i have street names in my CAD Drawing that i want to put it in the ParcelFabric. So Sir, how do we bring the Street Names Annotation right to our ParcelFabric? Am from Uganda and I must admit Sir, Have been following you the first time i landed on your video and its been a great learning platform for myself and thanks to that.
Thanks for the kind words. If you wish to have questions like this answered, join the workshops live by subscribing to our newsletter at the bottom of our website's front page and getting the invitation. After the live recording, we stick around and answer questions.
Hi Frank... I wanted to know how I can remove the traverse direction in Parcel fabric after updating COGO. Thanks 😊
The display of the direction information is part of the label expression. Change to distance only, and you will not see the direction. I described how it works in this video: ua-cam.com/video/vd2993MgTHQ/v-deo.html
@@PandaConsulting Have taken a look at that video already Sir... But it doesn't fix what i wanted...that you showed me Sir, fixed the direction of N3487E in blue color. What i really wanted was to hide the arrows that come on the line. The arrow like this (>) on the line. Thanks.
Wow, this is so amazing and helpful. Thank you.
You're so welcome!
How do we account for future lots? Thanks.
One can add a new parcel type for future or proposed lots and, after approval, change the parcel type to lots.
DC has three parcel types each can have future lots created prior to their tax roll commencing date. Can each parcel type have attributes that track current/future/retire status? Parcel Type schema now only has ‘ishistoric’. Why not have “is future”. Also?
It may be best to take this discussion off-line. You can contact me using the Contact Us link on our website, www.pandaconsulting.com.
Will do, Thanks!
Hello, when importing dwg files from autocad to arcmap, some drawings do not appear. How can I fix this problem, especially in the building projects I have drawn myself? Should I define a coordinate system for the building dwg I drew, how?
In the ArccGIS Pro Catalog pane, you can right click on the DWG file and set the spaial reference to the correct projection.
Good one. Thanks
You're welcome
I have a question. In spatial join part - At the 'have their center in' , the center means centroid or central point?
According to the documentation: pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/analysis/spatial-join.htm
do you have any sample pdf for traverse tool
Sorry, we do not provide copies of the data used in the workshops.
Hello. What would be the basic code for points intersecting polygons? For example, if I wanted to capture City ID/Name for points within City Boundaries? I am fairly new to Arcade, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You might try something similar to this: // Get Sub Name from Subdivisions polygon layer var fsMapIndex = FeatureSetByName($datastore,"Subdivisions",["Name"]) var fsIntersectMap = within(fsMapIndex, centroid($feature)) var MapIndex = first(fsIntersectMap) if (MapIndex == null) return {"errorMessage": "No Feature Found"} if (MapIndex.Name == null) return {"errorMessage": "Field is empty"} return MapIndex.Name Good luck.
Hey Frank do you have a video of your layout process if you needed to print this for a tax payer or appraiser?
Unfortunately, this is not available for distribution.
If the drawn polygon intersects two or more subdivisions. How does it choose which one to return? Is it possible to set up a way to choose the greatest overlap?
While one can evaluate the sequencing of the objectID and find the latest polygon, at the moment, we have not implemented this function in the code. It is definitely possible.
Well done! Thank you!
Great job sir
Great lectures with awesome explanations. This is really helpful for those who are data quality controllers. By the way, does the contains rule can prevent such geometry errors? (For ex: A Polygon cannot be drawn once it has a gap or overlapped polygon).
You can write a constraint rule to ensure that the new geometry is identical to one that it is overlaying, but it will be more problematic to determine whether all edges, or faces of a polygon are coincident with adjoining polygons.
I'm trying to clean up parcel data right now and I've run into an issue with duplicate Dimensions overlapping with each other. Is there a good way to search for overlapping duplicates and auto-delete redundant Dimensions leaving only the first instance of each number. If anyone has any insight on this I would love to hear it.
There are actually two options: In the first option you would hide any duplkicate dimensions by using the Remove Duplicate Labels option under the Label Class Properties. In the second you would delete the duplicate lines using the Delete Identical geoprocessing tool. I would suggest that you use the Remove Duplicate Labels to ensure that you do not delete features that are needed.
@@PandaConsulting That is a very good idea to hide them rather than deleting them. Thank you, this is extremely helpful.

I am trying to do COGO but having issues while giving R delta and Length . Proper curve and tangent is not created as given in survey data. Please help
IN the Traverse tool, you are required to give three parameters for the curve: Orientation (tangent or chord bearing or radial bearing), the radius, and one other parameter, either delta angle, arc length or chord distance. You cannot / should not provide the radius, delta AND Length. If given a choice, I would suggest that you enter the radius (required) and the delta angle. The resulting stored values may not exactly match the survey values, which are rounded on the drawing.
one of the best and valuable inforamtion i 've ever seen
Thanks, I hope you find it helpful.
this is so awesome thanks so much for the video! very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Is there a way to pull the m values from the intersected feature?
Good question - While the Arcade intersect allows one to capture the attributes of features, I am not sure of whether one can capture M-Values. You should check with Esri.
Thank you for posting!
That is why we are here.
I have a reoccuring issue with Validation Errors after I save my project and load it at a later time. This has happened repeatedly, and I am unable to figure out of this is a problem or normal or if there is something that needs to be fixed. I ran the topology validation tool and that didn't seem to address the issue. Any ideas?
Derek, we will be addressing this issue in our May 18, 2023 workshop. If you wish to attend live, please register for our newsletter and you will receive the link.
Why are you using a sde connection and not a gisowner connection?

Is it possible to have the data you use to practice with you?
Unfortunately, we do not make our Clients data available to others.
When I make a new Parcel Fabric I dont have nearly the same amount of feature classes that you have. Did you customize yours do all of that, or am I doing something wrong thats causing mine to not match yours? All I have are AdjustmentLines, AdjustmentPoints, AdjustmentVectors, Connections, Points, Records, and Topology.
When you create a parcel fabric, you must also add parcel types (Tax parcels, Subdivisions, Lots, etc.). The feature classes that you list are the components of the Parcel Fabric that are no related to parcels, but just the workings of the parcel fabric. In the Catalog pane, right click on the parcel fabric and select manage to add additional parcel types. Good luck.
