Telstra InfraCo and Prysmian Group partnered together to expand Prysmian's optical cable manufacturing plant in Australia. This expansion will support the construction of Telstra's intercity fibre network, designed to meet Australia's growing digital connectivity needs over the next 20+ years.
Prysmian’s new fibre optic cable - a result of two years of co-operated R&D, is 59% smaller and 54% lighter than previous designs, which helps to reduce an estimated 35,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the project's lifespan. The intercity fibre network will connect all mainland capital cities and facilitate transmission rates of up to 650Gbps - over six times today's average rate of 100Gbps.
