Removing Engine From Chevy Uplander
I, with the help of my brother, raise the body of an Uplander off the frame. I meant to be serious in the video, but my brother and I are always joking so enjoy.

Isuzu Rodeo - Key Stuck In Ignition Repaired

Customer Complaint: Key won't come out of ignition. Have to leave the key in the car and can't lock the doors as that's the only key. Tore down the steering column to find that a bolt had came out. It holds a cable in place and that cable allows you to remove the key. Found a bolt that fit, installed it, and put everything back together. Still going strong.

    Solid unit! I should have figured if you take an engine out of a car with a transaxle, the best thing might just be to leave the wheels connected! I hope you've got a lot of videos tearing apart and rebuilding the Uplander, because I am aiming to do an EV conversion on one. Why? Because there's not a lot of approachably priced 3-row EVs as yet. And all I really need is a daily commuter and local handy truck, no need to go long distance--those two things match up with EV conversions which frequently have less than 125 mile range and usually don't include any kind of highway supercharging capability.

      I've got a solid 3.5 replacement engine sitting on a pallet for my 2005 Uplander. It's a perfect match with all the wiring harnesses intact. I'm researching this very question. Do you think I can pull it from above, and if so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers from Vancouver Island.

    My problem was that the cable was not allowing the white part to go forward enough to release key because the cable had too much slack. That cable that connects to the where your key goes goes to the shifter assembly in your center console next to shifter. If you remove all the center panels you can see where cable attaches to shifter assembly. You can disconnect the cable and ACTUALLY adjust cable to take the slack out of cable. The slack in cable from being worn out won't let whole cable that attaches to white piece slide forward enough. That won't let key come out in my situation. Hope this helps somebody.

    So, I dove into this problem today. On New Years Day. It's freezing outside, but this problem is pissing me off, and it looked pretty simple to do myself. So, I neede a number 1 &#2 Phillip head screwdrivers, and a flat screwdriver. Removed screws from steering column only. Cannot completely remove steering column due to a deep seated screw that is actually underneath the kicker panel, or bolster panel I think it's called. Then I could actually see the white part that is actuated by the shifter. If the bracket that holds the shifter cable right above the ignition is loose, then you have no tension in your cable. The car will say it's in park , it will actually be in park ,but the piece of plastic that allows the key to be removed will not shift forward or backward. So , i hit the white part, no one said what that part is called , so I call it the white part that slides back and forth , allowing the key to be removed, I hit that with some silicone spray, almost directly into the cable housing, so as to aid in the cable to move. Seems to help. Then I drove it , and the key was stuck AGAIN. So, then I thought, why don't I just reach under, find the cable with my right hand , push it forward , or towards the driver seat, and BOOM. Key came right out,every time. Eventually, I'll have to get in there and secure the bracket that holds that cable , but until then , that seems to be working. All it needs is a simple little bolt. That's it. Just hard to get to.

    @slayer666790 5 років тому

    Is it possible to replace that bolt on that part by way of just taking the steering column off only? I wish he would have said what the white part was called that wasn't sliding back and forth the right way due to a missing bracket bolt. It would help to know what that's called. Thx for the info though, I'm gonna try tomorrow as its New Year's Eve tonight and freezing outside.

    I did not think there would be a video about the key ignition being stuck on a Isuzu Rodeo...well Honda Passport that I drive. My key got stuck before but I was still able to still get my key out after a few tries putting it to park and then 1st gear and back to park again. A couple of years pass by and my key got stuck again and your video really helped me out on why it got stuck.. The good thing is the screw you were talking about, it was still inside the console and all I had to do was screw back to place. Thanks Alot For This Video!!!

    I was able to perform the final step of this video just by removing the 4 or 5 screws from the plastic covers of the steering column. By pulling apart the plastic covers it exposes the release shown in the video, it's a bit of a tight squeeze if you don't remove the covers totally, but easily upon research with your fingers. Done in less than 15 minutes. I keep just one screw on the covers now because it happened more than once. To fix permanently, change the cable that goes from the steering column to the gear box, its probably worn out.

    Hey Diggs, the few demonstrations I've seen on the net (video or photos) show supporting the engine w/jacks like you did, then getting the chassis up somehow. The Haynes says lower the car until you can support the motor on say a pallet, which is the method I may try. Now here's the question - can a standard heavy steel floor jack be used - with some sort of extension, or actually multiple extensions, of varying lengths, to push the body up high enough to drag the pallet/motor out? With jackstands to support the vehicle in between stages. My stand has a cradle thing that has a nub on the bottom that drops into a hole in the end of the "arm" of the jack. What if you had steel rods of some sort that would get inserted in the end of the jack's arm (it's hole actually), so you could keep pushing the car up, from 2' to 3', then from 4' to 5', etc. If I'm making any sense. And if that does make sense, I realize people would say it sounds dangerous, but steel bends long before it snaps LOL. You can work slow and see what happens as you keep pushing it up. I don't have a hydraulic lift at my disposal, so the only other method I could come up with was placing the floor jack on cinder blocks to make it lift higher and higher. Which method do you like better? I can buy steel rod of various lengths and thicknesses all day long from places around here in NJ. Thanks in advance.

      +Chris Keegan also forgot to mention bolting 2 steel ramps front to front somehow, and placing that under each rear wheel so the car will pivot on it's rear wheels and not go anywhere!

    • @DreadyDiggs
      @DreadyDiggs 8 років тому

      +Chris Keegan First off I'm so sorry that I never got back to you. I don't get notifications for some reason so I'm gonna fix that.As far as raising the body with a floor jack,I just wouldn't do it even if you could. I would never pull an ENGINE in one of these that way. I'd decline the job if I had no access to a lift, just for my own safety. Now, I have dropped the frame and done the TRANSMISSION that way. But of course you don't have to lift nearly as high to clear that. Did you make an attempt?

      Sorry for the late response. I didn't know I received a comment. This engine had a slight knock to it. I didn't tear it down to find the problem because the customer had a core on the engine, hence I had to send it back with them when I was finished with the van. It ran fine, but of course the knock would have only gotten worse if they continued to drive it. My guess is rod bearing(s), which I have seen fail on these engines.

      Apr 2017 I am midst of changing trans on my 3.9 Uplander. Pulled engine out the top. First pull axles/brakes, unbolt trans and support trans with wood block under pan over a jack. You have to pull all 3 exhaust manifolds, top intake, coil, alternator and engine wiring harness. Then the A/C compressor (tie it against radiator) and all the front heater hoses. The alternator bracket will not clear the firewall shroud by about an inch. To overcome that put 1/4" plywood sheet over the radiator to keep from punching it and rock engine a bit to clear the shroud, you will have to bend the shroud a bit... I also exhausted my entire vocabulary of cuss words, but it works. Pulling trans is then easy. You cannot pull engine and trans together.
