Приєднався 8 лип 2011
SYRCL (pronounced “circle”) is the leading voice for the protection and restoration of the Yuba River and the Greater Yuba Watershed. Founded in 1983 through a rural, grassroots campaign to defend the South Yuba River from proposed hydropower dams, SYRCL has developed into a vibrant community organization with over 3,500 members and volunteers based in Nevada City, CA.
We are the leading regional advocates for creating resilient human and natural communities throughout the greater Yuba River basin by restoring creeks & rivers, regenerating wild salmon populations, and inspiring & organizing people-from the Yuba’s source to the sea-to join in our movement for a more wild & scenic Yuba River.

Completed in-water construction phase of the Rose Bar project
Переглядів 803 місяці тому
On August 30th, we completed the in-water construction phase of the Rose Bar project. This project enhanced two spawning riffles in the lower Yuba River with appropriately sized spawning gravel. These riffles are in one of the last locations where salmon spawning can occur before Englebright Dam and the end of the anadromous reach of river. This project took a lot of coordinated effort, and we'...

The Wildlife Conservation Board went along on a behind-the-scenes tour of Van Norden Meadow with us earlier this month. In this reel, Alecia Weisman, SYRCL’s Watershed Science Director, takes us around the meadow, showing results of Phase 1 of the Van Norden Meadow Restoration Project. WCB has provided $3.76 million in funding for this restoration project. Significant funding has also been prov...
Upper Rose Bar Enhancement Project

The Rose Bar project site is located 9 river miles below Englebright dam on land recently acquired by the Yuba Water agency. The purpose of this project is to create and enhance two spawning riffles for Chinook salmon and steelhead. Englebright Dam prevents gravels from moving downstream from upper portions of the watershed. In the Goldfields, the piles of hydraulic mining debris provide the gr...

What is Restoration and what does it mean for the Yuba River watershed?
I wonder if yall were the group of rafters I seen down there, I work picking up rock material trucking down there at parks bar quarry
SYRCL exemplifies a failed history of fanatics who advocated for such unrealistic ideals as “returning salmon to the upper Yuba”. As soon as they come to the realization that such a goal is both unwise and unattainable will they finally be in a position to make good use of the abundant opportunities that are available in Nevada County.
What does boiling water mean?
Thank you for recording these stories from the original people of our region. I hope they will be available for future generations to watch.
save the river! went on kcra tv. next weekend every body from Sacramento was up there on the river and it has never been the same since. in the bushes jerking off. ugling the local girls. budweiser cans...that is what publicity brings to a river. I left but a finer river i have never found. what a shame.
The South Yuba River, edged with granite boulders, forests and mountains, is beautiful and accessible. I didn't know about the work and dedication of the SYRCL people who won its wild and scenic status. I'm grateful for their tenacity.
I had a Navajo girl named Marless in my school. She had been selected to attend the public school I was in and we were great friends. Yuba City was her home.
Edwards crossing and the waterfall at Peggy’s Bar hold such love and memory in my heart and experience. 💙 Thank You SYRCL. Thank you YUBA 💙✨
Our (water dams were built to control water, We have less lakes and lower level rivers for small towns to start and grow. we need deeper lakes and river, dig them deeper.
Free the rivers, free our souls. Every river should be wild and free.
That means stay out of their don't get pinned underneath and drowned like the guy did by the 49 bridge
❤
Scrumptiously Beautiful!!
The camera went right on that rock where there's an underwater tunnel where the kid drowned when it got clogged with logs and he could not swim back up against the current I hope they Dynamite that rock too many people have been drowning there
Blah, boring no-info video. More of a circle jerk of rich white "artists" in Nevada city.
The dam that we see at the end of the video is impassable for fish and must retain a lot of sediment... not great for the river's biodiversity. Otherwise, very beautiful region and images. Thank you for sharing.
We grew up on the river and camp along it's shores above Edwards. We were always clean and picked up after others. Last i heard you could still camp above Edwards and be free and one with the river. A lot of times these groups with good intentions run it for our local community.I'm 69 years old and my kids learn to swim and camp there, they've seen the restrictions that have destroyed our way of life. They've noticed how south fork has lost so many freedoms since becoming a State Park. When it became a State Park all the NO SIGNS came up , we hated seeing this , but we also know theres to many people. If you want to save our community and quality of our lives stop subdivisions.
More people more problems more restrictions. Remembering the days we spent at Auburn confluence with no crowds. We Just keep moving higher into the Sierras for peace.
The Spanish named the river the Yuba because of the wild grapes that grow along it's shores in it's lower portion.
Hey Carl, while that notion has been talked about for years, we've since learned that the river's name actually more likely comes from the local tribe, the Nisenan, and their word for "waterway," 'uba seo.' It is spelled in early records as "Yubu" and applied to the river by 1844. Be sure to drop by the Uba Seo gallery in Nevada City to learn more about the Nisenan and their presence here far before the Spanish :)
Great video. Such a pity there is no commentary. Written notes were helpful however. 😊
Absolutely awesome! 💜 the South Yuba!!
I was on the North Yuba this weekend 7/29/23 high water has settled and the forest is peaceful. Hope it remains that way for the next old guy Sit’n by the river just wunder’n on its beauty . Only thing that could make the hart throb more amongst all that beauty is if a bald eagle in flight down the river with my trout in his talons 🙃 Inspirational vid Thank You 😎
*PromoSM* 😠
Beautiful film Palmer and team. Would definitely love to include this in our next Festival.
Stunning Energy ☮️
I've been camping and 4 wheeling up there since the 70's.. Walking the river in the summer with my sister we saw home made rafts that were stuck 8' up in the snag trees. Inner tubes strapped to planks etc. What a ride those dudes must have had back in the day.
Ah, trying to keep all the non-locals away from all that new flood gold
How do I join Circle? I’m new to the area and would like to be more connected to this beautiful area! Thanks for making the movie available. I’m sharing away. I hopr that is okay.

I just vibed so hard with every second of this video. Thank you so much for your work. The Yuba watershed is sacred to myself and many others. How can I help?
Hey Benjamin! We are always looking to expand our membership and/or find people to volunteer for our programs. Check out yubariver.org/ for more information
My family & I fished alot of rivers in this area back in the day; hike, camp & fish trout! Human effect; Grateful for those far oft days & memories.....
Ten years ago when the TDLT bought the property the Summit Valley consisted of a rich mix of habitats. There was a lacustrine (lake) habitat with rainbow and brown trout that fed a local population of Osprey, White Pelicans, Kingfishers and Bald Eagles in the summer. The lake also served as a stopping off point for water fowl and Sandhill Cranes on the Pacific flyway. Water fowl such as Mergansers, Canada Geese, Mallards and Grebes nested in the surrounding willow wetlands. A very large population of Western Toads spawned in the shallow waters of the lake every spring. In the wetlands surrounding the lake songbirds and water fowl nested. A beaver family had built a lodge and harvested the willows in the surrounding wetlands. There was no need for "analogs". The South Yuba River meandered through the Valley and provided Riparian habitat for breeding fish and frogs. The east end of the Valley was a seasonal wet/dry meadow that supported a multitude of wildflowers and grasses/sedges. Now, thanks to TDLT and the Forest Service, the Lacustrine and Riparian habitats have been all but obliterated with all the wildlife species that inhabited them. The Valley is now left with only the single seasonal wet/dry meadow habitat which is being encroached on by surrounding Lodgepole pines. And somehow all of this habitat destruction is supposed to make the Valley more "biodiverse" and "restored".
Why aren't nanny's on the river giving tickets to the filth coming there? Scared? Maybe let it dry up and make a tent community for losers of CA? Or let it burn? So many options and one day all will know what they did for fake green.
Dredging removes harmful mercury and other heavy metals how about working with small scale miners and prospectors. We take pride in our lands just as much if not more than most, We cherish this hobby and past time, together we can clean it up. Do not punish good deeds.
Yuba city beautiful city
what is a safe flow level in cfs?
We never say "safe" to swim, but you can't stand up in water above 50cfs
