This is such a tiny detail but Hanschen and Ernst holding each others hands in Song of Purple Summer is so touching. Their relationship is usually seen as a piece of cheap humor or a quick distraction to the rest of the story but their romance is so heartbreaking to me. and in every version I’ve seen, Hanschen and Ernst never acknowledge each other after WoYB (reprise). I’ve always thought that having them show some sort of affection to each other in Song of Purple Summer would be smart since the whole song is singing about a progressive future, including one where Ernst and Hanschen can openly express their love or each other. To finally see a production do this is amazing
