100+° Fall Trout Fishing California (Catch and Release)
It may be fall, but it's still over 100 degrees by 11am out here in the lower elevations of California. We got out on the river anyways to search for some Rainbows in the crystal clear deep pools of this river at its lowest cfs of the year.

A Fisherman's Wife Who Fishes | Trout Fishing the High Sierra (Catch & Release)
Переглядів 884День тому
Join us on a High Sierra fishing adventure! My wife wanted to throw it back to the old days (before kids) and go fishing with just the two of us. This creek is very dangerous to fish as there is really no trail, and at many points very steep granite cliffs to maneuver through as we make our way up river so I took the kid-less opportunity to take my wife here for her first time. Mike, these days every state has a Department of Fish and Wildlife (or something equivalent) that monitors fish populations and ensures that people are not overfishing any particular stream. And you are doubly ignorant, because a lot of the fish you find for sale come from ocean fisheries where the wild populations are being overharvested. Do you think that fish for sale are grown from trees?

    • @mikemaynard2044
      @mikemaynard2044 9 днів тому

      @@nunliski I get that but the average angler fishes 3 for 4 times a year. If you are out there a lot and taking fish isn't good stewardship friend. It's a culture thing. Bottom Line you are promoting killing fish.

    • @briharesfishingtours

      I fish pretty often and I have harvested probably less than 5 fish over the last 3 years. I let most of them go so that my kids and someday grandchildren will hopefully be able to enjoy this same hobby someday. Regulations of season, fish size, barbed hooks etc are all in place for a reason and so long as we respect the rules, harvesting a fish every now and then that you caught is not a bad thing. The problem is that many people don't respect the regulations and that is where the issue lies.

    At the beginning of August, i caught a 3 pound large mouth out of here, a 16-inch rainbow, countless baby small mouth bass, and probably about a 8 pound pikeminnow. All in a wknd. I usually do catch and release, unless its a pikeminnow. Ive caught about six of them out of that river right there. They've even moved up into the lil streams. When I fished Oregon in 2014 the pikeminnows were a threat to wild trout population, and if I remember correctly we were actually encouraged to dispose them instead of releasing them back in the water. Compared to trouts they are ugly, do not put up a good fight, smell and taste horrendous so I saw no reason to spare them if they truly are a hazard to local wildlife.

    Forget 10 and 2, what helped me unlock a bit is a bit more like 11 and 2. Sometimes I'll wack the water in front of me but I'd rather do that than snap my fly off behind me or hook a bush. Also slow down and watch your backcast, should time your forward cast to start moving just as your entire line straightens out. You will start to get a feel for it because this is when your rod loads up also. Another piece is being firm but not aggressively hard with your stopping of the rod, stop too hard your line will wack your rod, its more like flicking paint off a paintbrush. Also, the roll cast is great for when you have limited room behind you and for resetting your fly in a stream. Tight lines my dude and it does fairly quickly become pretty relaxing, but always a learning experience.

      @@briharesfishingtours that does help a lot, I'm blessed with greyling and they aren't as particular. Catching a fish is good for the motivation. I'd also suggest getting small indicators, they're great in low light or when your dry fly slips under the surface. I caught two fish a couple days ago I never would have seen the take of otherwise.
