How many of you haters here own one? Better get used to seeing them as there are reservations for 1.5 million. By next year they will be everywhere.

I was a cross platform mobile developer. It was troublesome enough to consider developing for iOS and Android with one code base, and with Windows it made a project difficult. I’m now a dedicated iOS app developer for this sole reason.

Fun fact about the app situation: a lot of big companies HAD apps for Windows Phones at first, but got petty and took them down.

My friend worked on a new OS for Windows phones that look amazing before it tanked. One big issue he said there was, was the acquisition of Nokia - the mixed teams of engineers just didn’t get along and work as well as they could.

My 1st Smartphone was hTC 5125 in 2006. I also bought the Lumia 520 and 630 in 2013. Their phones were always behind the competition. If it wasn’t Blackberry/RIM then it was HTC or LG outselling & outperforming

I LOVED my windows phone!

It is all under the hood of all phone but liability so they rather sell or close and let it growth into what consumers want but it still in all smart phone. It is marketing scheme

I loved the Windows 10 phone and was a big supporter. I wish it had the app support because Cortana was brillant and the XBOX app was great with the live tile.

I loved the Nokia phones running Windows Mobile and had many during that time. The UX still feels fresh to me even today. I definitely miss that experience in today's mobile OS's.

I was a huge fan of this platform and the texting was like no other.

My Lumia 650 had a battery that sometimes lasted six days. Not always, but...six days. A smartphone with such a good battery and so stylish in design - it was my first smartphone and one of my favourites.

A few points: *Apple did not standardise anything. They simply created yet another smartphone design, just like all those smartphones before it, and very heavily marketed it. *Apple did not create the onscreen keyboard or even the touchscreen smartphone. *If the "soft" in Microsoft hints at what their company does then what does the "Apple" hint at? You can't tell what a company does just by their name. *Apple's secret to success was and always will be marketing. There is nothing special about their devices or their software. Imagine if they didn't advertise their smartphone as much. We would be living in a world where they wouldn't be very popular and apple's OS was not supported by many software developers and thus, not many apps. It would have gone down exactly the same route as MS smartphones.

Lumia was really good when it came out. Fresh gui. Sleek look. The problem is that there are no apps to use it with and you’re just basically secluded in your own platform not being able to share the fun apps apple and android har.

I wanted a Windows phone and an HTC phone so badly when i was younger. Couldn’t afford them.

I remember a commercial for the windows phone with the slogan "A phone to save us from our phones". They thought the way forward would be with phones being less important in our lives, not more. Man, were they wrong.

I had a G5 when it was new i loved it. Their business model was quite... A choice indeed 😂

The windows phone was the only microsoft product I was happy with.

I remember it differently. The OS was BAD. Buggy, ugly and clunky. The Windows 8 tiled UI was already hated on computers. The question is not why it failed. Mobile Windows failed 2 times before it. Microsoft writes shitty software that customers hate. No surprise they failed again. The real question is why the Nokia board of directors killed the company by shutting down their own promising OS? That could have been the 3rd player in the mobile market. Nokia bosses ignored their customers and their sales people who told them "These phones are not desirable. Nobody buys them. Give us the N9" Nope, they stuck with the Microsoft man Stephen Elop as CEO. It was painful to watch. Nokia went down from the biggest player to a dead brand. And they invented the smartphone and created a community of developers and partners around it. Shame, really...

They were never very good at software either.

I worked for a well know mobile network when the windows phone came out, it was terrible. Nobody wanted one and no apps worked on it.

if only WIndows 10 Mobile can emulate x86 softwares from desktop, It'll be awesome.

I really liked the windows phone UI. The phone had a ton of potential just lacked support. I used the Windows Phone launcher on Android for a while and it worked great cause Android had all the apps Windows Phone was missing. I thought the same thing as one of the other posters. If Microsoft had paid just a few of the big players to make apps the other guys would have probably got on board. It is a damn shame too, it would have been nice to have more options even if it would have been the Microsoft of today to deal with.

Great presentation - seems to gel with what I saw. Windows Phone was good, just late to the party. I kinda wish they’d kept going with it though. I’m also sad that Microsoft got out of retail. Oh well.

Apple didn't win because they were stylish. they won because their products were better. The end.
