Sadly no, the Moonwalk was called the Back slide and it's it's performed by black entertainers for years including Cab Calloway in the 30s and Bill Bailet who did a better rendition of the Moonwalk we knownit was today. Michael Jackson even states he picked up the move from black kids from the block.
Nope...what Melanin said is more like it. First time I personally ever saw it was Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar on TOTP circa 1982. Before Michael Jackson. I seem to remember MJ actually contacting Daniels about it too.
@@melaninawakening9350 James Brown&Fred Astair was the direct influences, and I just read from an university article that Marceau influenced MJ, that's what just brought me to watch this vid actually. It seems that Marceau&MJ even performed a moonwalk together in 1995, MJ mentioning Marceau as a great influence... (vidéo I'll be checking right now...)
Nope. African American performers such as Cab Calloway and Bill Bailey did it way before. MJ himself said that he first learned it from a group of black kids on the streets.

This was Marceau’s only spoken word whilst downing the Bip costume. Funny how he’s the only spoken word in the movie at all.
This is a true story. Michael Jackson was a huge fan of Marcel Marceau and his "dance against the wind" was an inspiration for his legendary moonwalk.
