This video is a follow-up to my recent unwrapping video. The tongs from Keith @PossumSausage forge worked so beautifully for a recent job that I had to show them off.
Unpacking a Gift

The gift of a pair of tongs from Possum Sausage Forge ( www.youtube.com/@PossumSausage ). He sure knew how to pack something that wouldn't rip open in transit :-) Thank you so much, Keith. Please follow the link above or here: www.youtube.com/@PossumSausage and give him a sub and a like.
Second Attempt at a Bottle Opener
Переглядів 88Рік тому
In the previous video, I made a sort of bottle opener, but did not quite realize the pineapple twist, and messed up the head. This time, I try a new head style, and practice the pineapple twist, both with better results. If you have enjoyed my videos so far, and would like to by me a cup of coffee, please consider a tip via my PayPal account: www.paypal.com/paypalme/DBaca Maker Thank you, and s...
Forging on the Fourth of July 2023

Wherein I "practice" making a bottle opener after rebuilding my dirt box forge. So many months away from the forge decidedly affected my skills. Still, it felt good to wear myself out beating hot steel again. The forge worked beautifully with the bellows AND the vacuum blower gated through the bellows. I hope you have enjoyed my videos so far. If you have, and you want to give some financial su...
First Fire: Testing Vacuum Blower vs. Fuigo Double Bellows

Controlling the fire is key to safe and effective forging. Since I widened the diameter of the tuyère, I wondered if a more powerful blower was needed. This video shows the results my tests. Reduce Audio Volume! Forging Near Bees: Steel Icicle #savethebees

The second half of the previous abrupt video on the topic. The tree ornament is not the goal of this project. Forging safely without annoying the be hive is the point The upshot is: after 45 minutes of noise and pounding, only the smoke from the beeswax finish caused A bee to be aggressive. I take that as a success. I hope you have enjoyed my videos so far. If you have, and you want to give som...

I enjoy your down to earth and thoughtful presentation/delivery of ideas. You do it well. Thank you for sharing.
And thanks for including the metric measurements.
Did you use 1/2 or 5/8 plywood?
@@Mrdubomb Pylex itself recommended 1/2 inch or 12 -13 mm plywood.
Im curious how much you would charge (labor) for this?
They were part of a much larger job that was for good friends of mine. Plus I was, am still am, not a pro builder. As such, I didn't charge them professional rates. However, considering not just my time, but operating costs and overhead, I don't think $1800 for labor would have been unreasonable
I am going to try and make a vise stand from some 6x6 cedar post cutoffs I have lying around.
The one thing I found in use is that I made the stand too high for smithing work, and grinding. I will have to rectify that in the future. But have fun with yours!
I made the Moravian bench, it made me fall in love with hand tool woodworking. I immediately sold my jointer and chop saw which freed up much space in my small shop. I was taking a class at the Woodwright school (Roy Underhill) and the second day a bunch of red oak slabs were stacked up, oh yeah the Moravian class was the next week. Love my bench and hope yours is working for you.
I do love working at my bench! I've made a bunch of projects at and look forward to even more. I envy you for your time at the Woodwright School.
I wouldn't worry about them. They won't bother you and the smoke might cause them to move. Maybe put some lavender in a smoker. They like that and will keep them docile.
They actually hated the sound of the hammer. But they moved on a couple of days later
From your comments I get the impression you've seen a few of these Daniel. Thanks for posting...
I have seen 5, but recorded only 3. They aren't always visible here, as some fly more west than east and the hills block the view.
There was a time, when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, when we saw missile launches from Vandenberg AFB quite regularly. Now it's Vandenberg Space Force Base but at least the kids NOW can see rocket launched again.
Pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏻♂️
That was nifty. First one I've seen from Vandenberg from someone's perspective besides space x
And this was from over 100 miles away. Imagine if I lived closer to Vandenberg SFB
Thanks Daniel...I enjoyed it...
Cool & beautiful
Use a heavy truck rim
❤❤❤ It's fun to watch you work buddy!
Very nice
Thank you 😀
Interesting and you May appear simple, but IT is not.
Thank you very much. It's just one step at a time.
Coming in from the Vineyard Farmhouse
Thank you for visiting!
@@DBacaMaker you're welcome
Heyyy this is just great!! We came over to support your channel from a live we were just watching - I could watch this kind of thing all day.... and it worked! Right on!
Thanks! It was a rush job
Fine job Mr Maker! Those tomgs made the show too. Blessings brother Crawford out 🙏🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️
Fun video Daniel. And they do look like good tongs...
Thanks for the shout-out!
Always! keep up your good work!.
That's why old full time smithing shops, had HUGE tong, hammer, and tooling racks. There was always a need for "just the right tool", to be on hand. 😊👍🔥⚒️ Great tongs, and thanks for the video Sir. 🙏🏼
Can I just butt in here to say that Possum Sausage would be a good name for a jug band?
I'm pretty sure he had that in mind~ LOL
Totally agree :)
Thanks for the unboxing and short review Dan, glad you like them!
The first pair of flat jaw tongs I got, I won on a CCI live stream. They were the ones Thomas made.
It's fun to get a gift through the mail. Cheers mate.
This is always amazing to me
Thank you for taking all this time to put this together. I am building one now and your videos are helping me. :)
Thank you! I'm very happy I could help. I'm sure yours will be a practical masterpiece!
Looking good, Thanks for sharing.💙
Looks nice.
This is really cool. It is so awesome that you know how to do these things. Your forearms must be like steel.
HA! more like butter LOL
@@DBacaMaker ha ha ha.... I doubt that.
Looking good Dan. I never made an opener with the hook on the end. I made them by punching a hole or by leaving it open like a "c" shape. I like that idea. Nice work.
You say some day you may get good. Thats my dream too brother
Good video. Beautiful opener.
Very nicely done looks great
Thanks! Improvement made, and more will be made with the next one.
Nice Sir Baca Maker! Looks like it'll work. So next time will you draw the loop material and extra 3/8" / 10mm ish? Is that's what I'm gathering? Blessings abound brother Crawford out 🙏🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️
@@dragonstonegemironworkscra4740 The amount I drew it was enough, I just had to flatten the loop by half. But making its even longer wouldn't ruin it 😉
@citygirlcountryheart1597 Thanks muchly!
New subscriber. I am interested in getting to know other makers.
Happy to have Brian!
Looked a little hot out there . Nice recovery
It was warm. The heatwave didn't hit until this week. Now I don't need the forge😆
I've done those "redesign" changes many times. Looks good.
"Oops!" or "AWE Crap!" are Blacksmiths Terms that mean "Redesign Changes". lol Hey Dan, hope ya had a good 4th.
Heh, t'is true. And I did!
Good save. Looks great. Good way to spend the 4th
Was sore the rest of the night LOL. Thanks!
Nice recovery and a perfect start of summer project. Happy 4th!
Thanks! Happy Fourth to you and yours, too
Uhhhh??? I never heard of washing your charcoal before using it; washing your produce yes but not charcoal. LOL. Looks Good, Brother!
A wise smith taught me that
Success is the best feeling 👍
Amen, Brother!
Quite a bit of volume in the vacuum cleaner exhaust. Maybe ok for anthracite but it needs a waist gate in line B4 the tuerierier thingy I can't spell. Lol Gotta love the billows though! Blessings abundant brother Crawford out 🙏🔥⚒️🧙
LOL Tuyère is like Banana, just keep adding letters until it makes sense 🤣
The bellows appear to work very well.
It shouldn't have surprised me how well it worked, but it did.
Finally got to watch this. It's a good design
Very clever. I like the progress
can't wait to see it in action
Looking good.
Thank you!
Looks great! Box shape is very similar to mine.
I wanted a kidney-shaped box but couldn't wrap the wood into a bean shape 😄 JK 2'x2' box is pretty much standard I think.
