Made here in Johnstown, PA. The factory building still stands with an historical marker in the Ferndale neighborhood. Your example is quite fine.

Too bad this company didn't survive as many old line makers sold machines that looked like MACHINES and not furniture, and many others made nice L00KING phoñographs with poor sound. This company made devices that L00KED +and more important) PLAYED well.

With expiration of many key PATENTS and end of World War 1 ,---any companies were able to enter talking machine business post war. Many offerings were marginal, but some unusual types like this were both elegant and good sounding. Their manufactured deservedly could have survived (like builders of this elegant and good sounding machine) but for two events. 1> Radio emergence made consumers spend their money on radios not on new record players. 2>Electric recording and play back favored the new radio makers line of combined devices Radio-Phonographs or in UK Radiograms, freezing out old-type PHONOGRAPH firms. Also there were need of licensing patents covering new truck from GE, ATT, Victor, Westinghouse etc. (Needless to say the older talking machine firms now had new patents to keep out newcomers, so only a few like Emerson survived.)

Sounds like crap. Change the needle and use an acoustically recorded disc.

Speed is too fast and the reproducer needs to be rebuilt, but a beautiful machine nonetheless!

Something of the period playing would be nice.

Love your video and I have a question for my brother who just bought one of these beauties. The turntable doesn't start turning until it reaches and meets the disc. Even then, there is some noticeable "wow/flutter" in the speed. Is there a clutch mechanism or some other component responsible for that issue? Also, do you know of a qualified tech for these in the San Francisco Bay Area? Thank you Sir!

Beautiful machine, well restored but please play acoustical records on a machine from 1912, the sound will be much better!

That record with sound great on the jukebox. It just sounds distorted on this beautiful machine. Acoustic machines need acoustic recordings in order to bring out the true nature of the beast.

Mine is same basic style, JNK-100 of 1960. In the ‘80s it started wearing out, slows down quickly on turntable. Have not played since, sits still in parents basement. Assume it really just needs super maintenance with lube.

These records are way too new, they’re overpowering the reproducer

I think you need to adjust the speed a bit. Sounds too slow. 👍
