The imagery one could conjure up on this are manifold. One more horrifying than the next. Nothing scared the stuff out of me like this tale other than, perhaps, All Hallows. I just stumbled onto De La Mare recently. And unfortunately there is not a huge repertoire of his writing involving the outer'. But what we've got is surely grand stuff. I wish someone can tell us who the narrator is of this story. Also extraordinary.

I love MRJames and this is so well done! Reminds me of ny old nan back home in Ireland , and the wonderful stories she told me all throughout her life. I noticed the rustics all appear to have irish accents in this narration! Lol great stuff!

This is so cool, I'm glad you created this channel. When I was very young in the seventies, there were still radio programs being played late. It was well past my bedtime, but I discovered them one night when my radio turned itself on at two or three in the morning with a woman's scream. Scared the shit out of me! LOL Then as the story resumed I listened to the tale. Thus began my love of horror. Took awhile for me to get out of bed and turn it off, once the story was over! ;)
